24.01.2022 If you have a relative that might be going into Aged Care - or who might think they need Aged Care in the next 12 months - there are some great tips in this 9 minute video segment. While its complex - its also more flexible than people think. So don't be afraid if you've been putting off investigating this. Top tip - the quicker you get your relative the ACAT assessed, the easier it will be, and waiting lists can be long...... Second tip - if you have an immediate need for Aged Care for a relative, look for an Aged Care placement consultant! Some may be paid by your relatives private health fund (often costs $1500-$2000) https://dms.licdn.com//feedshare-mp4/1507940147251-drlcss

21.01.2022 What do investors around the world really want? Australians are the silver medalists for thinking about retirement!

20.01.2022 Do you know when I want to plan for a relative to go into Aged Care? Never. The answer is never - or rather - I hope I never have to!... But sticking my head in the sand about it (like most people do) simply leads to one crisis - my relatives need for Aged Care - spiraling into numerous other financial and emotional crisis as well. There is so many emotional and financial issues to work through - but the biggest guilt ridden issue is the quality of care that your mum, dad or aunt may receive. Can you trust that they will be looked after? There is about to be a much needed Royal Commission into the Aged Care sector. To be frank - while I've been fortunate to see some great Aged Care providers - I'm a bit horrified at what they might discover throughout the industry. In the meantime, this is an interesting article that provides some insight to ensure if you are looking for an Aged Care facility, ask lots of questions - as most won't be forthcoming with any issues or problems! https://hellocaremail.com.au/aged-care-facilities-forced-/

15.01.2022 Below is a really personal account of what it is like to be 55, unemployed and faking it. While from the US, the issues and how so many of us feel here in Australia, are the same. https://www.ted.com//elizabeth_white_an_honest_look_at_the

13.01.2022 One of the biggest fears we have with getting old is suffering dementia, or watching one you love suffer the disease. This article by Bill Gates discusses all the amazing ways people are working on early diagnosis - as early diagnosis means more chance of finding the cure. https://www.gatesnotes.com//The-unexpected-way-we-might-on

07.01.2022 If you open your mind too much, your brains might fall out - Tim Minchin We have an Investment Module as part of the Retirement Blueprint Programme, and while understanding HOW a company grows from a garage start up to a Top 100 listed company and what it means for your wealth, is very useful, WHY you might invest and how YOU will think (and behave!) as an investor, is far more important. Attached is a great visual on the biggest mistakes we make as investors....and Tim Mi...nchin's lyrical advice aside, the best way to overcome it is to keep an open mind. http://www.visualcapitalist.com/6-biggest-mistakes-ordinar/

07.01.2022 Are YOU the oldest person in the world? Then, you need to prove you are older than 116. That's how old Kane Tanaka is today. And it has been verified (yes, there's a group of people whose job it is to prove you aren't lying!) The oldest Australian is currently 109 - we currently don't have ANY supercentenarians (people aged over 110). Last year, we had four...... The oldest person ever to have lived died at age 122 - and died over 20 years ago. But today, that's being called into question... https://www.smh.com.au//worlds-oldest-woman-was-122-when-s

06.01.2022 No one wants to think that their investments are being put to use to create or continue activities such as the slave trade or nuclear weapons. Investing in line with your own specific values can be hard - but here is a fantastic example of a doctor who, after seeing the damage tobacco was having on patients, has changed how big super funds invest. There are now 45 Super Funds in Australia that have completed divested from Tobacco companies. Its a great read on how to get th...ings done.... https://www.afr.com//true-leaders-2018-how-bronwyn-king-go

05.01.2022 Creating a Blueprint for the future should be an exciting process. But many people put it off because they think of retirement as some kind of decline. So I love this piece in Forbes. "Young people are far more anxious about getting older than older people and we’re not addressing those challenges. The other side of the spectrum living is not just for the young is that life gets fuller and better over time." Of course it does - so plan to make it happen.... https://www.forbes.com//getting-advertisers-to-think-dif/

03.01.2022 Angela Lansbury turns 93 today! If you are 65, you have a one in four chance of also making it to 93. Although I am unsure of your chances of winning an Academy Award for your singing along the way.....

01.01.2022 There is no "retirement age" in Australia - but the age in which you can access the Aged Pension is 67 (if you were born after 1 Jan 1957). The Prime Minister's announcement here is only sensible when you consider the average age of retirement in Australia is still 64. There would be even more backlash against the current government if they didn't roll back their previous announcements. Of course, age is only one of the three tests you must pass before accessing the Aged Pe...nsion. Let's see what else the government plays with to find the budget savings they so desperately want!!
