Also, our rebuild has official...ly started with the marking out of the bush kitchen, stage, carport roof and 8 sided "hemple". I wonder what sort of butterfly this spectacular caterpillar turned into The grass ...is now lush, gumtrees are sprouting, and the big casuarina’s by the river that we pronounced dead have just started to sprout tiny Pineneedles on the extremitiesOf some limbs. .. over 3 months after the fire! Natures efforts to regenerate are inspiring us with our own humble efforts to regenerate Gongwana. See more

08.01.2022 Found this new shell in Melbourne for $100 just before border closed and it's now hooked up to our old stainless steel water heater that survived the fire. Soooo good for those sore muscles and for gazing at the milky way after a busy day!

03.01.2022 Amidst the destruction of the fires, and now this new crisis, we are thrilled, humbled, challenged and extremely grateful that the NSW Government has approved Retreats at Gongwana for the Small Business Bushfire Relief Grant of $50,000! We lost more than twice that amount, but this is very generous support and confirmation of our willingness and calling to rebuild Gongy even better than before. This comes after a big journey of experiencing devastating grief, and overwhelm at... the magnitude of just the cleanup let alone a rebuild. The forest too has been so heavily impacted that we have thought that Gongy mightn't be ready for human gatherings again in our lifetimes.... But yesterday the bubbling creek was glistening and the sun was shining on the new emerald green grass and sprouting gum trees. They will need to have their dead and falling crowns lopped off by a climbing arborist and there is much work to be done, but it just felt really good to be out there in the fresh air cleaning up tin that had been scattered all over the place and beginning to envision a bright new future for this special and magical land.
