23.01.2022 Polish Naval divers were attempting to defuse a RAF WWII Tallboy bomb, dropped in a raid during in 1945 on the German Light cruiser Lützow. The bomb missed it's target and lay dormant, burried in 12m of mud, with just the nose exposed. Given a 50/50 chance of detonation, the blast was no surprise, and all divers were clear of the blast zone. Our hats are off to the crew who attempted this job! https://youtu.be/uZnnj3J4Lw8

23.01.2022 The next time somebody tells you to put your body on the line, think of Lieutenant Colonel John Strapp!

14.01.2022 Norma Jean Dougherty, an employee of The Radio Plane Co, making target drones for US Gunnery training in 1945 during the end of the war. If Norma Jean looks familiar to you, then you might know her under another name, Marilyn. Yes, she is that Marilyn, before she became famous. The story goes that she was picked out by the photographer from the production line for the shoot, but from here, she would go on to be one of the still most recgonised and photographed women of all time.

14.01.2022 As the saying goes, it's just like riding a bike! I'd love to hear his stories! Admin Allen

13.01.2022 It is with sad news that it has been reported that aviation legend Chuck Yeager has passed away, aged 97. A pilot with few equals, Col. Yeager was a pioneer in the early days of jet aviation, being the first man to break the sound barrier, with broken ribs! He carried out combat missions in three wars, was a test pilot, trained astronauts, and led various combat squadrons. Col. Yeager, despite training astronauts would never become one, as he believed that without a university degree he didn't qualify for the program, but he did refer to astronauts as "spam in a can, just flipping the right switches when being told by the ground". Fair winds and Blue Skies Col. Yeager.

11.01.2022 You may recall the superb series of interviews with WWII veterans Pádraig did for many of our editions. He's still producing seriously gorgeous art. Here's his shoot of last night creating some noir movie still captures.

07.01.2022 Tibor was a man who had seen and endured a terrible part of World War Two, being sent as a young 13yo boy to a Concentration camp, and later learning that he had lost his parents and 10yo sister. Freed by the US Army and making his way to America, Tibor joined the US Army to show his appreciation of his new country, and once more found himself being discriminated against as a Jew, but he never let that stop him fighting for his new home, and earning it's highest award.

05.01.2022 The first teaser for Lancaster is up! Produced by the same company that produced Spitfire the Documentary, this is the story of the Lancaster and the men and women who flew and serviced them. Admin Allen is especially excited, as both his Grandfather and his wife's Grandfather were Lancaster ground crew during WWII, so he can't wait to see this.

01.01.2022 C-47's have had a long and varied career, and have always proved to be highly capable workhorse since being introduced in World War Two, and serving in three wars and the drug interdiction wars of South America. https://www.facebook.com/dark5tv/videos/213966663216298/

01.01.2022 Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force! You are about to embark on the Great Crusade to which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers-in-arms on other Fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security... for ourselves in a free world. Your task will not be a easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle hardened. He will fight savagely. But this is the year 1944! Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of 1940-41. The United Nations has inflicted upon the Germans great defeats, in open battle, man to man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our Home Fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men. The tide has turned! The free men of the world are marching together to Victory! I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty, and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full Victory! Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking. Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower, June 6th, 1944 See more
