25.01.2022 Here's a bit of history well worth sharing with you all. This is certainly one of the most remote lighthouses ever built, and although it's not necessarily the highest it still goes to show extraordinary human feats, and what we as people are actually capable of. Built in Iceland in the late 1930's (1938 to be exact) off the Westman Island's which is off the southern coast of Iceland, this small lighthouse was built ontop of four rock pillars by a team of four of the most exp...erienced mountaineers and builders Iceland had, tasked by the government to proceed with caution and try and get the job done. Apparently there was no helicopters back then, and the rock face could only be accessed by a small boat in calm conditions on the limited weather windows that they had. The mountaineers first had to create a pathway to get to the top, and used chains fastened to the rockface to help them reach the top ledge and to send the tools and the building equipment up.
