25.01.2022 PLASTIC FREE JULY DAILY TIP: Now we have a little more freedom (I’m so sorry, Melbourne) have you been catching up with a socially distanced picnic or BBQ in the park? What’s not to love, especially on the Gold Coast in winter by the beach... but enough bragging.... Do you do less waste picnics? There’s no need to load up council bins or leave waste behind with a little planning. Make your own food instead of buying prepared, which is likely to come in single-use plastic. Take reusable instead of disposable tableware. A little washing up to save waste is a very small price. Any rubbish or compostable food scraps can just as easily come home with you for proper recycling and composting. Share your best waste free picnic and BBQ tips below. #PlasticFreeJuly

25.01.2022 Plastic cutlery doesn’t get recycled both because of the type of plastic, and the size of the cutlery means it can’t get sorted with the kerbside recycling. So off to landfill it goes to languish for a few hundred years Plastic cutlery with your takeaway food is easily avoided with compact and portable BYO cutlery. ... There’s so many options - bamboo, reusable plastic, stainless steel, something from your drawer! Just pop them in your BYO kit, or in that tardis of a handbag you have. Don’t forget to say ‘no single-use plastic cutlery thanks!’ Well done! If you can’t spare some from your drawer, then check out our range - our daily deal today is 25% off all BYO cutlery kits. Just use the code CUTLERY at the checkout! BTW - if you do end up with single-use cutlery, but it’s kinda sturdy, by not wash it and hang on to it for next time as a backup? In the kit!

24.01.2022 Plastic Crap! That’s what little Miss 4 says, parroting her mum when she sees... well, plastic crap. Our littlies take their lead from us, and that includes our habits.... They’re from Russbe, so you know they’ll last. Gussetted for easy use, a double zip lock and reinforced seams with appealing designs. And... yes! They are today’s waste-saving DAILY DEAL. Grab a 4-pack with 2 sandwich and 2 snack bags for just $14.95. Today only! Head to Food Bags in our On-The-Go section on the web. What cues does your little eco-warrior take from you? If this cause is one you’d like to support, head over to www.nationalpyjamaday.com - and jump into your PJs! #NationalPyjamaDay #InMyPJs #

24.01.2022 Who else had pizza and garlic bread on the weekend ? Do you recycle your pizza boxes? There’s a misconception out there that pizza boxes can’t be recycled because of the grease factor. Not so. Slightly greasy cardboard is okay. Just make sure you remove all the food scraps and gooey cheese. Apparently, this is a thing People often recycle all kinds of food containers with food still in them.... If the base is too greasy because you ordered triple cheese, at the least rip the lid off and recycle that. The foil the bread came in can be recycled too! Just scrunch it up into a fist-sized ball with other clean foil to ensure it doesn’t fall through sorting machines. Aluminium is infinitely recyclable (unlike plastic). We reuse any paper bags we get to collect food scraps for the compost bin.

21.01.2022 Plastic Free July Daily Tip: There’s no such thing as single-use. Okay, look. Yes, I have some single-use zip bags in my cupboard. But they have literally been there for years!... There’s so many reusable options now, there’s hardly a need for them in our house. We use them (and re-use them) for things like spare clothes at kindy. That’s the thing about calling something single-use. It’s the throwaway mindset we’ve created in our world of convenience. But my cupboards (as hubby would complain) are full of single-use throwaway plastic that is reused over and over before eventually being recycled. What do all these things have in common? They are so-called ‘single-use’ repurposed. Coffee jars - no-brainer. Perfect air-tight container for storing grains and pasta. Glass mayo jar who’s sticker I haven’t removed yet (#pantrygoals) but also great for storing these pine nuts. Those darned cutlery pieces you got at the drive-through, even though you said no cutlery thanks’. But they’re compostable! Maybe, but that means commercially compostable, so... very few options to actually get them composted (hello Mr PM?) Anyway, they are reusable! Great for lunchboxes. Then if it gets left behind, like the good stuff inevitably will, then it doesn’t matter so much. Or pop them in your BYO #TrashlessTakeaway Kit. Single-use takeaway containers. Ahem. Reusable! Great to put in your BYO kit with your reusable straws to use as a doggy bag when dining out, coz who needs another one? Use for food and dip you take to a friend’s place. Again, if you leave it behind, it doesn’t matter. It is eventually recyclable (rinsed clean of course). An old herb jar, now holding our oven dried chilli seeds and flakes. And even those emergency snacks that came in a resealable bag? Reusable. It’s thick and sturdy. Rinse and reuse for sultanas or carrot sticks or home dehydrated snacks. Just grab and go in your way to the car! So before you chuck something in the bin or recycle bin, ask yourself... self, is this reusable? That’s a lot of #PlasticFreeJuly tips in one photo! What’s your best reusable tip?

20.01.2022 AUSSIE AUGUST We’re celebrating our Aussie products and brands throughout August with a special shoutout to the small Aussie businesses and startups we deal with and love. We’d like YOU to share the love and shoutout your favourite small Aussie Biz as well, using the hashtag #AussieAugust, so we can all get behind some hard working brands and keep our economy rolling.... What do you think? Will you join in? Aussie Aussie Aussie Here’s our first AUSSIE AUGUST small biz profile - it’s us! Well, that’s me, specifically. Reusable Planet is a small family-run Aussie startup based on the Gold Coast, created by me, Rachel. A corporate hippy from way back, I’m passionate about many things, but especially about the environment and future of the planet. Let’s call it long-termism (as opposed to short-sighted). I wanted to use my corporate knowledge to create a business that would contribute to a better world. Along with climate change, the plastic problem we have created is one of the biggest long-term issues our planet faces. With many other people in this space, I want to not only get the message out there, but make it easy for people to change their every day habits to leave a lighter footprint. Along the way I have managed to pick up and stock many other small Aussie businesses also trying to make a difference. So much so it is now part of the Reusable Planet ethos to support other small, hardworking Aussie businesses wherever we can! So that’s why this AUSSIE AUGUST we’d like to showcase these businesses to you, and we’d love for you to join us too! Use the hashtag #AussieAugust to give a shoutout to one or more of your favourite small Aussie businesses! Let’s keep the economy ticking and #SupportSmallBusiness #AussieAugust #BuyAustralian

20.01.2022 Plastic Free July Tip: Product swaps are an easy way to reduce plastic. Today, let’s talk about soap! Remember laundry sticks? They’re back, they’re popular, they work!... Most stain removers come in plastic, and let’s face it, a heap of chemicals. Same goes for dishwashing liquid. All those SLSs going down the sink, only 9% chance that plastic bottle will be recycled instead of going to landfill. Swap it for dish soap! It’s pretty easy to find alternatives for the kitchen and laundry these days. Soapberries, soap flakes, soap sticks, soap cages, soapy soap soap. Such products are often all-natural and chemical-free, so not only better for the environment, but better for you, too! We carry the Minimal Essentials range for laundry and kitchen soap, and we soapberries. But there’s plenty of alternatives to discover. Find one product swap in the kitchen or laundry to try this Plastic Free July! Hopefully it will stick! (See what I did there... ). #PlasticFreeJuly

19.01.2022 Did you know that Australian’s throw away 1 Billion single-use plastic water bottles every year? And only 12% get recycled? The rest languish in landfill for millennia, leaving behind toxic residue. And how many end up in the environment? Floating in the ocean, slowly degrading and becoming fish food? No wonder there is microplastics in the food chain!... One of the easiest ways you can contribute this Plastic Free July is to ensure you BYO hydration to avoid single-use. Refill at a water station, fountain or ask at a cafe. Today’s awesome daily deal for Plastic Free July is these borosilicate glass water bottles with silicone sleeve. Borosilicate glass is tougher and lighter than regular glass, and can withstand extreme temperature changes. These guys come in great colours to suit any mood or workout outfit and have a convenient carry strap. For today only, so super cheap there’s no excuse for not having spares so you never forget to BYO hydration! Keep one in the car, one in your gym bag, one in your shopping bag, and one for your friend’s birthday coming up! Just $10.95 each - what? Today only! #PlasticFreeJuly

18.01.2022 How good is this? Australian Parents for Climate Action (AP4CA) are calling on the Federal government to fund solar panels and batteries for every school and early childhood centre in Australia! Why this is a great idea:... - It's the perfect COVID-19 recovery economic stimulus project - Creates clean local jobs Australia-wide - Supports small business - Slashes school electricity costs, and - Reduces greenhouse gas emissions! It’s estimated that at least 42% of schools in Australia don’t currently have solar. This project would: - Create at least 6,870 jobs - Save 1.4 million tonnes of greenhouse emissions per year - Save $114,000 in annual energy bills per large school and $12,700 in small schools. AP4CA are pushing for the government to make this a reality! As we recover from COVID-19, Australia should focus on the clean industries of the future and leave polluting industries, like coal and gas, behind. How you can get involved: 1. Sign ap4ca’s open letter to the prime minister 2. Share the letter with your friends, family, followers 3. Download the poster to share it in your school, early learning centre or community notice board 4. Write a letter to your local politician seeking support for the campaign Head over to www.ap4ca.org and let's get Solar on Every School in Australia! Australian Parents for Climate Action

15.01.2022 Yes, it's that time of year again - the 11th annual Plastic Free July is here! Will you be part of the solution? Plastic pollution is one of the biggest challenges our planet faces. It's why we started Reusable Planet. ... Australians throw out over 1 tonne of plastic waste EVERY MINUTE! BUT - Only 12% of Australian household plastic waste is recycled. PLASTIC FREE sounds like a big ask. And it is! It's really hard to avoid plastic altogether in this world of convenience. So don't be daunted. Do what you can, changing one habit at a time. Make your goal achievable. Use this Plastic Free July to change just one (more) regular habit, like BYO water or coffee cup. But even just making yourself aware of when and how much you use plastic, especially single-use plastic, and understanding the issues plastic creates in its production and disposal, is a great start. If you want to know more, to sign up for the challenge, or get plastic-free tips, head over to the PlasticFree July page

15.01.2022 AUSSIE AUGUST SHOUTOUT Today we want to introduce you to No Nasties! After Miss 4, who is a bit of a princess, got some play makeup for a gift, I was really reluctant to let her use it after reading the ingredient list.... She really loved it and wanted more, but I had no confidence in the stuff I found in the stores. So after a bit of a search online - I found No Nasties Play Make-up. Not only did it have all natural ingredients, it had no nasty inclusions to worry about on her sensitive young skin. Best of all, it was made in Australia by a small Aussie company. No-brainer! We got some face makeup, lip gloss and peelable nail polish, which we love so much we now stock at Reusable Planet, as well as some face paint and a few other great kids products. Lady boss Natalia, who suffers multiple allergies, had been on the same journey for her daughter, and decided to do something about it. And No Nasties was born! Started from her kitchen table, No Nasties Kids is now a multi-award winning company stocked in 26 countries around the world! What a great Aussie success story! Check out the play makeup range on our website, or head directly to No Nasties Makeup Natural Play Makeup for Kids for the full range of awesome products for kids, tweens and home! 13.01.2022 Plastic Free July Daily Tip: Fresh produce can be an obstacle course / minefield of plastic. Prepacked, prepicked, presliced. Unnecessary!... Where there’s an option, choose the unpackaged produce. If packaged is cheaper because it’s bulk, ask if you can get the same amount unpackaged for the same price. Most produce can go ‘naked’, but if you need to, bring a reusable produce bag or two. If you forget, paper mushroom bags might do the trick! Plastic averted! Give yourself a pat on the back! #PlasticFreeJuly #PlasticFreeProduce

12.01.2022 Ends midnight Tuesday - get 20% off site wide when you use the code ECO20 in the shopping cart.

11.01.2022 How good is this? Instead of Black Friday, IKEA are doing ‘Buy Back Friday’. They are helping to give thousands of pieces of old IKEA furniture a second (or third, or fourth) life by buying back old IKEA furniture and finding someone who needs it. In return, you get IKEA credits to spend on something you need. I always NEED something from IKEA. ... That’s great corporate thinking! And a better deal for us as well as the planet. So before you chuck your old Billy Bookcase in the dump, it could be repurposed and reused. IKEA

10.01.2022 How’s @PlasticFreeJuly going for you? What every day habits have you looked at changing? Wanna know what we love about Plastic Free July? It represents the reason we do what we do, why Reusable Planet exists! I’m a corporate hippy from way back. So much passion, so many causes, so many things to fix in the world.... In creating Reusable Planet, not only could I focus my passion and energy, but use it as a platform to educate and help change mindsets more broadly. Once you know what a problem plastic is - not just the pollution, but the making of it, the disposal of it, the toxicity of it, the affects on human health, the destruction to wildlife, marine life, the ocean, the desecration of pristine environments, the fossil fuels required, the factory pollution, etc etc - then you really have no choice but to do something. Along with climate change, the overuse of plastic is one of the biggest long-term issues our planet faces. And we’ve hardly touched the surface of rectifying it. We’re still in early awareness mode. Many are still oblivious to the problem. And that’s why we love Plastic Free July. Born in Australia from one single woman who wanted to make a difference, and now a global movement of millions 10 years strong, it's creating awareness with huge ripple effects. Don’t ever say you can’t make a difference. Just take one step. Change one habit to reduce plastic. And take a friend with you. I promise you, it will be the start of great things. So if you haven’t changed anything this July, do it now! And do it more. Say no to that plastic lid on your coffee cup. Bring a water bottle. Sip instead of suck. Avoid plastic produce bags. See? It doesn’t have to be hard! These are all very easy things. And it’s a great start. Yay You! Don't forget to check our stories for our daily deals throughout July. You don't want to miss today's! #PlasticFreeJuly #PlasticFree #PlasticPollutes #PlasticPollution #WarOnWaste #ZeroWaste #ReduceReuseRecycle #Reusables #ReusablePlanet

04.01.2022 Do you recycle your Tetra Paks? Although they are mixed material like single-use coffee and drink cups, unlike the cups, tetra paks can be recycled in your Council kerbside recycling bin. The paper, polyethylene and thin layer of aluminium can all be recycled. 03.01.2022 Recycling spin in the plastics industry! Plastic pollution is now considered a major global crisis and there is mounting pressure on the industry to act. In a must-watch episode on ABC's Four Corners tonight, a revealing investigation from America's PBS Frontline shows how, in the face of pressure to reduce plastic consumption, recycling programs were created to lull consumers into believing that the plastic waste problem was being solved. ... Industry insiders reveal how ‘Big Plastic’ has used the idea of recycling to draw attention away from the industry itself, allowing it to expand exponentially. https://www.abc.net.au//plastic-wars:-recycling-s/12529956

The remainder is mostly carbon dioxide.... But it’s only one eggshell! According to Earth911, the US alone sends 150,000 tons of eggshells to landfills every year. That’s a lot of eggs! It also a lot of greenhouse gas that can easily be avoided with so many more beneficial ways to use your eggshells. Eggshells are composed mostly of calcium carbonate, which is good for so many purposes! The soil, vegies and plants, people and pets!
