25.01.2022 Goodness gracious! This is quite often what we as your tech support may find when a client tells us ‘the fan has stopped’ or ‘the computer keeps turning off on its own’ or ‘the computer is running hot’! Having a build up of dust in your computer is not only risk of overheating your computer, but could stop your computer from working at all! ... Wood heaters, rooms without carpet, smoking in the same room as your computer and industrial workshops increase the speed of dust build up. This dust build up can be so dense that it is very difficult to remove in some cases. Be sure to ask you local tech support team to clean & dust your hardware at you next regular checkup to avoid this issue.

15.01.2022 Bushfire smoke affecting Tasmania Heavy smoke from Victorian bushfires is causing very poor air quality in Tasmania. The air quality is worst in the northern an...d central regions of the state but is also affected in the south. Very poor air quality poses a health risk, particularly to vulnerable people. Those most at risk are people aged over 65 years, babies and young children, pregnant women, and those with heart or lung conditions, including asthma. Even healthy people can experience short-term health effects in very poor air quality conditions. A weather change forecast for the late morning and afternoon may shift the smoke from Victorian fires that is currently affecting Tasmania. However, with bushfires burning around Tasmania, it will remain important to protect yourself from smoke. The safest thing to do when it is very smoky is to stay indoors, and to avoid outdoor activities. It important that people with asthma or other chronic conditions follow their health plan and try to reduce the smoke they breathe. On smoky days everyone should try to: Stay indoors, close your doors and windows Set any air conditioning to recirculate the air Avoid exercise outdoors Go somewhere less smoky like a friend’s place, a library, or shopping centre Importantly, anyone who becomes unwell should seek medical help. For more information visit www.health.tas.gov.au/publichealth/air/bushfire_smoke

10.01.2022 Passwords! Need I say more?! Does it feel like passwords were created to become the ongoing frustrations for both home users and businesses? While, in the current digital age, we are all about protecting our private data - the need for stronger, smarter passwords becomes more apparent. ... Dr Fernando Corbato (who passed away in 2019, aged 93) created the concept of passwords in the early 1960 when the challenge arose of wanting more than one person to use a computer at the same time. When Dr Corbato was in his late 80’s, he admitted that the password had become a bit of a nightmare and that in his lifetime he alone had accumulated over 150 passwords! He went on to say that it had become necessary to either maintain a ‘Crib’ sheet (physical copy) or to use a online password manager, which comes with its own set of issues. So, what is the best safest way to store your passwords? This always comes down to personal choice. While one will be comfortable and happy with their online password manager, there will be another as equally passionate that there little black physical book of passwords are a better option! What team are you on?
