24.01.2022 Parking update On-street parking up to 2P will remain free until 31 December as part of our ongoing COVID-19 support package for the community. Our on-street 3P and longer plus off-street CBD spaces will remain free until 2 August, as we transition back to payments and strict time limits. From 3 August: Paid parking for on-street 3P and longer time zones will be activated, with new parking fees adopted in the 2020-21 Budget. Off-street parking permits will resume. Existing permit holders can choose to restart payments, maintain their indefinite suspension, or cancel their permit. Motorists are encouraged to comply with time restrictions across all parking zones.

21.01.2022 Greening streetscapes assists in filtering air pollution, reduces urban heat and improves the wellbeing of the community. We love our spectacular botanical walk Next stages of the Malop Street Green Spine coming soon...

20.01.2022 Did you know Johnstone Park has a raingarden? It’s a series of terraced ponds that filter stormwater, removing nitrogen, oils and other pollutants that would otherwise flow into our beautiful Corio Bay. An incredible 350,000 litres of this cleaned water is also stored in underground tanks for use in the park. The construction of the Johnstone Park Raingarden was led by Revitalising Central Geelong in 2017/2018. The photos show the raingarden today, and the construction of the tanks in 2017.

16.01.2022 Innovation is particularly important in response to the unique challenges the pandemic has created. This innovation can be demonstrated through urban design and a collective commitment to improving the functionality and aesthetics of public spaces to promote public ease and enjoyment in use. Carefully considered urban design can regenerate empty and abandoned buildings and streets, as well as improve public safety and prosperity.

10.01.2022 Communal waste and recycling compactors are being provided for businesses located in the Central Geelong Laneways Precinct. In response to feedback from the business owners, residents and property owners, the City has introduced a 12-month commercial waste and recycling trial for the Central Geelong Laneways Precinct. The trial will be the first step in establishing more effective ways to manage commercial waste, recycling and bin storage in our laneways.... 08.01.2022 Due to council elections, the City of Greater Geelong will be in caretaker mode from 22 Sep to 24 Oct. We'll be posting less often, only covering regular programs, operational & emergency matters. Community engagements will pause.

04.01.2022 Central Geelong is getting a new laneway! The extension of Denny’s Place north to meet Malop St will create a new public space and increase walkability in our wonderful city. This new laneway from Malop St to Lt Malop St will open up a new link which will add vibrancy to our CBD, better connecting people to local businesses - that’s good for jobs and investment into the future. 03.01.2022 Rescue and reuse Clever and Creative story.Revitalising Central Geelong recently engaged with McGlashan Everist Architects, enabling them to salvage native plants from the new City of Greater Geelong Civic Precinct site and relocate them to the Geelong High School gardens. The plants will contribute to the garden beds around the recently refurbished school. Geelong High School has a commitment to environmental initiatives across all curriculum learning areas. Students were able to get involved, working under the guidance of the school’s grounds staff. It will be wonderful to watch the plants thrive in their new home. We are grateful to McGlashan Everist Architects for their initiative and resourcefulness. What a great outcome!

03.01.2022 A big thanks to the workers who maintain our beautiful Green Spine continuously, even through COVID-19.
