23.01.2022 Hello beautiful, Welcome to so many new followers over the past month or so, thank you for joining me. And for those of you who are new here I wanted to share with you a little bit of my background, my skills and education and why I want to help women prepare for motherhood.... I am a mother of two young boys and motherhood has left me raw and exposed in many ways. After feeling left to figure this ‘motherhood’ thing out on my own, deeply sleep deprived and no longer recognising myself I went looking for answers - why are mother’s not at the centre of the motherhood journey, why is the focus on the baby and her body ‘bouncing back’, why doesn't she think about this profound transformation beyond the stretching and bending or learning ‘mothercraft’ skills like swaddling, feeding and sleep routines? Although this is all important, pregnancy is nine months yet we forget that motherhood is a lifetime. And through my lived experience of motherhood I believe it’s crucial for mamas-to-be not to forget about HER the woman who is transforming into a mother. An Ausmumpreneur Award Winner for the People’s Choice Award Making A Difference in Health and Wellbeing and an Accredited Mama Rising Facilitator, I am on a mission to change the way women prepare for motherhood. I do this through nurturing workshops, programs and resources that include the latest research from experts in motherhood studies from around the globe and practical tools to help you the mamas-to-be understand what being a mother means, what changes it will bring, and how to cope with those changes so you can be confident and prepared to thrive in motherhood. But most of all I want YOU the mama-to-be to know you’ve got this, that you are already a good mother and that motherhood can be joyful with many magical moments. Im so glad you are here. Warmest love, Laura x P.S If you’re in the last trimester of pregnancy (28 weeks+) I recommend you book the next available session so you can participate before your baby arrives. #matrescence #pregnancy #motherhood #thisismotherhood #melbournemums #aussiemums #hypnobirthing #rawmotherhood #motherhoodinspired #prenatalyoga. #motherssupportingmothers
21.01.2022 You know I’m not so sure saying to each other ‘enjoy it while it lasts’ is helpful. It can bring on feelings of ‘oh if I’m not enjoying it then I must be doing something wrong’ or ‘there must be something wrong with me’. And I’ve felt this wave rush over me when people have made such comments, mostly of course out of love and reflection on their part.... But in my heart and deep in my body in many moments (even in one day) I’m not enjoying it. And then it hits I’m not good at this Why did I do this I’m not loving this Why is motherhood so hard I’m so lonely What’s wrong with me But what I have learnt is this is normal, it is ok, I am the best mum for my boys and I can’t always be present and love those ‘they’re growing up, quick Laura cherish this moment’ moments! So now I take pictures when I feel a rush of love and then I have the pics to remind me and to reignite my love when I look at the pic and remember that moment. So yes mamas-to-be it does go quickly, but you don’t need any more pressure to cherish, hold on to or remember it’s going fast Give them a kiss, take a pic and breath the moments in when you can. And know you are doing an amazing job. Quick note, Episode Two of The Mother First podcast releases on Monday ‘Who holds the mother’ - this next interview is with the divine Bec and Freya from Your Village. More to come shortly on this episode. 20.01.2022 Honestly meditation is taking a while to stick as a well-being, mother myself first, habit. And that’s ok, I’m showing up when I can. I use to think that for meditation to work I had to do it every morning as a daily ritual. And perhaps one day I will feel what that feels like. But for now the kids still wake at different times and well I need as much sleep as I can to recover from years of sleep deprivation. ... But I love it when I’m doing it. And since learning that my adrenal system is shot and my nervous system is in flux sitting still is a vital part of my deep repletion. When ever I can I lay on the floor, ground myself into the earth and just listen! I do fall asleep ALOT I also listen to podcasts this way when I have the space. Launching tomorrow The Mother First podcast episode two with @your.village - Who holds the mother?! 17.01.2022 I’ve struggled for a long time with the ‘self care’ line. It just didn't sit well for me. And it actually felt like more pressure. Like I had to fit it in and be away from the boys. Like self care was synonymous with time physically away from the boys.... Don't get me wrong, I love stints away from my boys, a haircut, nails done and a massage or facial now and then, catching up with friends and practising yoga. But I found something was missing, something that was deeply nourishing and I’d be back to old ways within seconds, frustrated, agitated, raising my voice. I have since started rituals and habits that encourage connection with myself and some as simple as my morning cup of tea - it’s non negotiable, simple and it grounds me. And a long hot shower, gosh this makes me feel so good and is generally the place where forgiveness takes place, one hand on my heart as the water rushes over me. Lastly, breathing - breathing you can do consciously anywhere anytime. It is our greatest undervalued asset. All three feed my soul daily and more than once a day too.. Self care is important - I just believe self love and soul nourishment take it deeper and have more of a lasting affect on my connection with self. It’s something I have to work on all the time. And perhaps for some, self care means all of the above and that’s great, it’s all unique to each of us and our own self discovery, connection and nurturing. 10.01.2022 Hello beautiful,I know there is a lot on for you right now and it's all about the baby and the birth.Yet I wonder about YOU - the mother becoming. How are YOU feeling amongst mad rush to finish up at work, the stretching and bending classes and the poking and prodding appointments? How are YOU doing? I wonder if any time has been allocated to you - regardless of whether or not this pregnancy is going smoothly or you feel hungover ALL day without the perks of a good time!... And I don't mean time for bending and stretching I mean time to sit still and to allocate some space to think about how you want to feel as a mother, what to expect, what you hope for, 'how' you want to mother, or perhaps how you 'don't' want to mother. If you haven't you're not alone. We all skip over this part because we just want to get to the finishing line of the birth, I get it - I was the same. But here is an easy 'just show up' four hours you can set aside just for YOU - time to think about this profound journey ahead. So this short course is for you if trying to finish up at work (or get through work) and you’re in overload mode feeling like you just can’t take on anymore ...you want to get this whole being pregnant and becoming a mother thing ‘right’, but you just want to get through the birth ...the unknown ahead is just another thing to think about BUT you want to understand what being a mother means, what changes will it bring, how to cope with those changes and prepare yourself to make sure you thrive during pregnancy and after . you’re feeling overwhelmed by the information overload about and the negative talk around the birth, lack of sleep, the feeding, the swaddling and not knowing what is ahead of you and you just want to feel excited and joyful Your thoughts are all normal, yet they don’t have to define your experience of motherhood. AND now is your opportunity to leave all that behind and to design the motherhood YOU want. More to come, some beautiful inclusions and bonuses or if you're ready you can book your place now link in bio. 10.01.2022 So often we hear ‘we’ve lost the village’; the nurturing by our wise ‘been there before’ elders, the connection to other mamas and even more simply the unconditional support of someone who just wants to hold the mama - to look after her, nourish her and take a load off for her. So I’m so excited to bring you this second episode where I am joined by two divine mamas Bec and Freya from @your.village . Through Bec’s experience of becoming a mother and with Freya, one of her bes...ties, there every step of the way to be her village, they both not only recognised the unmet need but deeply felt it was unreasonable that the village didn't even exist and this is when the beautiful business Your Village was born. Since producing this episode Freya has now had the profound experience of journeying into motherhood herself and we look forward to a second recording to hear about her experience of becoming a mother with the village holding her just as herself and Bec had visioned. I hope you enjoy this episode. 06.01.2022 Beautiful Sarah attended my very first free webinar ‘How can I prepare for motherhood?’ and from the webinar she went on to book her place at my Becoming A Mother Immersion Program. The transformation I saw in her in only these two sessions was humbling and a wonderful delight to witness and be a part of. Sarah was nervous of the unknown but excited.... She didn't want to lose herself but she could feel herself changing. She was worried about not being able to communicate how she was feeling with her partner. And of course the stories from friends about feeling unsupported and lonely. BUT the relief after our half day together, you could see the weight lifted off her shoulders. And this, THIS should be the story we tell our mamas-to-be, that yes it's messy BUT you are going through something profound and beautiful - you are transforming into a divine mother. The new you. Read what Sarah wrote: Laura's workshops leave you with a knowing of the "missing puzzle piece." As a first time to be mum, I have been experiencing feelings and not knowing why these feelings / changes are happening. This workshop allowed me to understand what I have been going through is completely normal and leave ready to develop strategies in how I can be the best mum but also the best me. If only the topics covered were more highlighted in our society, more women would have this sense of empowerment. Laura is raw and honest creating and allowing a safe environment to acknowledge and share our feelings. Highly, highly recommend! Look forward to more workshops! Sarah 20 weeks Goosebumps. The next free webinar is this coming Tuesday evening 16 February at 8pm, link in bio. Also if you are in the Northern Rivers region Early Bird for the divine Thrive in Birth and Motherhood 2 part course with myself and Anna Murray from @byron.babymoon March 13 and 27 closes Sunday night 14 February. Link in bio too. Warmest love, Laura x P.S If you’re in the last trimester of pregnancy (28 weeks+) I recommend you book the next available session so you can participate before your baby arrives. #matrescence #pregnancy #motherhood #thisismotherhood #melbournemums #aussiemums #hypnobirthing
02.01.2022 Today’s podcast ‘Who holds the Mother?’ With Bec and Freya from @your.village just keeps swirling around in my head who holds her, who nurtures her, who just shows up and says I’ve got you. Well last night I experienced it first hand. My dear friend, said ‘I’m coming around this afternoon’, knowing the hubby had been away since Tuesday and I had the boys 24/7 she showed up with cheese and crackers, ice cream for the boys and then later took the boys out to get hot chips and ...said ‘take a hot shower’. And that’s what I did. I didn’t clean the kitchen or tidy up. I took a long hot shower and just breathed. It’s could be so easy, it takes little time, it costs nothing. Imagine a motherhood with a handful of elders wrapping their wings around each and every mama just like this. Imagine all the recharged mamas. Imagine them feeling held, nurtured and their well-being put first. Imagine all the mamas who deeply feel seen. Imagine a motherhood where she’s mothered first! This is what I imagine every time I step into a workshop or a talk. I’m dreaming big, but I’m taking small steps with every workshop, free webinar, community talk and every podcast! Today’s podcast is in the bio links.
