23.01.2022 Birth is more than just the physical act. It’s more than a baby voyaging along the traditional ‘birth path’. Equally, it’s more than simply being sliced open and handed a baby. There are indeed physical, chemical and emotional complexities of birth that we don’t yet fully understand and that we don’t yet fully respect. ... Perhaps the understanding part we can somewhat live without (we have done for millions of years) and instead, trust our wombanly intuition, our instinct and our biological history. But the respect part - that needs attention. There are layers upon layers of every kind of birth, but despite the physical experience, birth is birth and the common outcome is that we become a mother. As a society, we should be seriously recognising the birth of a mother, at least to the extent that we recognise the birth of the baby. Belly birthing mamas are mothers just as any vaginal birthing mama is a mother. You are not less, you are not more. You are you. Your experience is yours. And YOU are a mother

16.01.2022 Are you on Clubhouse? I’m getting completely out of my comfort zone tomorrow night and joining @karensadekphotography at 8.30pm AEST to talk about all things birth photography and film! If you’d love to ask me a question about my journey, this genre, or anything really, here’s your chance - because those of you who have followed me for some time will know I’m not great at showing my face or talking to the camera. So I’m quite looking forward to sitting here in my cosy jammies... with a hot cuppa and casually chatting about the ins and outs of my work with those who want to listen! A little preview insight into my work life for you - alongside my own business, I’m also super lucky to work in a team with @by.lana.bell and @sarahwatson5 on a rotating on-call roster for @the_birth_day. This photograph of me, in my element, doing my thing, was beautifully captured by @by.lana.bell for @the_birth_day at @lieshy_lou ‘s dreamy home birth at the end of last year. We both raced to her birth not knowing who would arrive first or if we’d even make it (Aliesha progressed very quickly!). Lana arrived about 10 minutes before me, and Aliesha welcomed her babe Sunny into the world just 10 minutes after I arrived! A beautiful birth I will always remember and feel privileged to have attended

07.01.2022 Gather Your Village mama - it’s almost time. We are now under a week away from hosting our first ever Gather Your Village event on the Gold Coast - a magical fourth trimester workshop - and we are thrilled to have received so much positive feedback and interest. There are a few remaining tickets available and would love you to join our little village. We are delivering some essential insights into life after birth, as well as sharing some amazing tools to help you navigate an...d honour a slow postpartum. The weeks after you meet your baby are filled with a beautiful concoction of swirling hormones, stress, tides of emotion, sleepless nights and crazy appetites. We want to help you facilitate a postpartum that lifts the heavy weight of the inevitable challenges and brings you more oxytocin, more skin to skin snuggles, more restful eyes and nourished bellies. This time is yours. You can choose how your postpartum plays out by creating your village now so that when you are deep in the throws of learning your new babe and transitioning from maiden to mother, you aren’t doing it alone. We were never meant to do it alone. Take this opportunity to truly honour the roots of your motherhood journey and support your postpartum body and mind through one of the most raw and vulnerable experiences of your life. Amongst a horde of amazing fourth trimester essentials, our giveaway prize on the day, includes a raw postpartum session with me. This session is not your typical newborn session - as well as documenting the bond between you and your baby, we will take some time to honour your fourth trimester body - all the new and beautiful curves, lines, bumps and scars that make it yours. This body was home to your baby. It is powerful, strong and likely will not undergo a transformation quite like what has been brought on by pregnancy, birth and your fourth trimester. Let me show you just how beautiful it is, and you are.

06.01.2022 Happy International Homebirth Day I’m a day late here in Australia but couldn’t let the day pass without jumping back on here (I’ve been very quiet the last month or so sorry!) and recognising the power, beauty and both physical and mental well-being that so often, and often so easily, accompanies women birthing at home. Every woman has the right to choose where she feels safest and most comfortable to birth. For me personally, had I known what I know now, seen what I’ve seen, experienced what I’ve experienced - I would have chosen a homebirth as a first time mum in a heart beat
