17.01.2022 Gratitude Post Number 3: There will always be a rainy day. You cant hide from the weather by staying inside, but you can bring an umbrella with you when you see the clouds gathering."

17.01.2022 Gratitude Post Number 4: "You cannot love others until you learn to love yourself."

16.01.2022 The Box breathing technique has been proven to reduce stress, promote calm, improve mood and mental focus. Practice the box breath for a few minutes daily before or after stressful events or to get better sleep at night. Step 1... Sitting upright, slowly exhale, getting all the oxygen out of your lungs and focus inward on your breath. Step 2 Inhale slowly and deeply through your nose to the count of four. Step 3 Hold your breath for another slow count of four. Step 4 Exhale slowly through your nose or mouth four the count of four while observing the feeling of the air leaving your body. Step 5 Hold your breath for the same slow count of four before repeating this process.

16.01.2022 The Rewire the Brain team is proud to have received another great testimonial: "We have been really amazed at the changes in our son this year. The Rewire Your Brain program has helped him develop confidence, strategies for managing anxiety and general wellbeing. We cant thank Anna, Maitlin, Gary and everyone involved enough. They have listened and encouraged him both mentally and physically. This has helped him to unlock his potential and opened up opportunities for him to find employment."

11.01.2022 Gratitude Post Number 2: "Always find time for the things that make you happy to be alive".

11.01.2022 Last week our participants looked at the relationships in their lives and this week we are looking at the benefits of belonging in our communities. Here is a great video that summarises both of these topics to show how building relationships can help create a sense of belonging to a greater community and benefit each member of that community. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDgtq4GEAIs

11.01.2022 Someone recently told me that emotions are chemical levels in your brain and your body is constantly trying to maintain equilibrium. So if one emotion sky rocke...ts, that chemical becomes flagged and signals the tear duct to open as an exit to release that emotion packaged neatly within a tear. Its why we feel more stable after crying, as if whatever emotion we were feeling had been released and we were refreshed. This is also why tears from different emotions look different under an electron microscope. Theyre literally made up of different things. According to Joseph Stromberg of the Smithsonians College of Arts and Sciences, happy tears are structurally different than sad tears than angry tears than overwhelmed tears etc. Different types of tears have distinct molecules. Emotional tears have protein-based hormones including the neurotransmitter leucine enkephalin, which is a natural painkiller that is released when we are stressed. 10.01.2022 Last week I participated in an Outward Bound Taster Day, bringing professionals from various community organisations together to participate in a full day of outdoor activities in an experiential workshop highlighting the ethos of Outward Bound Australia. It was wonderful to see how quickly a group of strangers formed a cohesive team dynamic utilising collaboration, communication and problem-solving skills. Outward bound facilitates a number of multiday outdoor camps, designed to stretch your limits, develop leadership skills while building confidence & self-esteem. Check out their website from more information https://www.outwardbound.org.au.

06.01.2022 During the flow arts workshop, Ben from Active Skills held a discussion on flow state. Flow is characterized by the complete absorption in what one does, and a resulting loss in ones sense of space and time. Ben shared how flow arts has been the key to unlocking flow state for him, which has had lasting effects on his mental wellbeing. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi (pronounced CHEEK-sent-m-HY-ee), a leading researcher in positive psychology, defines Flow as the mental state in w...hich a person is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and success in the process of the activity in which he/she is engaged. According to Csikszentmihalyi, creativity is a central source of meaning in our lives. Having devoted his life to studying what makes people truly happy, Csikszentmihalyi notes that people live more fully when involved in creative pursuits, and discusses the notion of flow as the creative moment when a person is completely involved in an activity for its own sake. 05.01.2022 Saying a massive thank you to Ben Hannagan from Active Skills for facilitating such a fun flow arts workshop. The term "flow arts" encompasses the emerging movement-based artforms that integrate dance and creative exploration of movement with skill-based prop manipulation. The Flow Arts draw from a multitude of ancient and modern movement disciplines from Maori poi spinning to modern fire-dancing, from martial arts and tai chi to circus arts and hula hooping. Fitting so well... with the programs weekly theme of Grit and Growth Mindset, the participants were challenged to put these concepts into practice, and with Bens simple instructions everyone was excited to give it a go. During the workshop Ben introduced us to four props juggling scarves, juggling balls, flower sticks, and staff. Ben was excellent at making every participant feel included and he adjusted his teaching to fit the speed in which each individual picked up the skill. Thanks so much Ben, the positive energy generated from your workshop follow us for the rest of the day.

05.01.2022 "Jobs increasingly need us to use our hearts the interpersonal and creative roles, with uniquely human skills like creativity, customer service, care for others, and collaboration that are hardest of all to mechanise.

04.01.2022 Once again, Heather from OzHarvest Brisbane educated our young people on the effects of food waste on our climate. Did you know that 1/3 of the worlds food gets wasted!!! And guess what Our family homes are the biggest contributor to this waste. Wasting food wastes everything!!! Water, land, energy, labour, money, and if course love. Visit www.Ozharvest.org to learn more about how you can fight food waste and lower your effects on the climate.

04.01.2022 Our participants focused on the theme of gratitude last week. They captured some beautiful pictures of living and non living things around us which they described with meaningful quotes, as a way of extending their gratitude. We will post one photo everyday for the next week The below picture symbolises beauty. "It happens every day, everywhere around the world, but when was the last time you truly acknowledged the beauty of a sunset?"

04.01.2022 Caregiver Testimonial: When we were recommended for our son to participate in the Rewire the Brain course at Mt Gravatt Tafe, to say we had our reservations is an understatement. Due to our sons negative experience with educational institutions in the past we were very reluctant to send him. However, after attending for some weeks it was clear that he was enjoying the program and felt that it was a safe environment. Our son has learnt many new skills and seems happier and m...ore confident in himself. It has given him a positive educational experience and the motivation to go on to further learning. We are thankful to the Rewire the Brain Crew for the caring learning environment that they have provided for our son. We would highly recommend this course, particularly to those who have been had difficulties with previous educational programs. Thanks John and Carolyn

02.01.2022 We were privileged to have Jon Unal from Conscious Beginnings Coaching & Mindfulness Education return for a second time this year to run a mindfulness workshop with the participants at Rewire the Brain. Through the presentation participants were invited to further unpack the principles of mindfulness and explore how they could adopt these practices in their own lives. Jon also spoke about personal responsibility and how we all have control over our mindset and the way we choo...se to navigate challenges. This program would not be as successful without the generous support of professional like Jon, who take time out of their busy schedules to share their passion for health and wellbeing with young people that need it the most. Jon provides mindset and performance coaching, runs mindfulness workshops and retreats, and offers online courses. Check out his website www.consciousbeginnings.com.au for a bunch of free guided meditations.
