Start at the Top No matter what room you’re cleaning, clean from the top down so that dirt and dust from higher surfaces falls on lower surfaces that haven’t yet been cleaned. Dust ceiling fans, then furniture wiping dirt directly on the floor. Clean all of the floors as your last step to remove the dirt and dust. Bedrooms-6 minutes per bedroom Strip linens and remake beds. When making beds rather than hunch over tucking bottom sheets under the mattress use one hand to lift the corner while tucking the sheet with the other. Clear all clutter, if you’re in a hurry gather clutter in a spare basket or bin for later organization and tuck out of sight in a closet. Wipe down furniture with a dusting spray and microfiber cloth, working top to bottom. If it doesn't work, don't try another product. Instead, call a plumber, Forte says. 3. Baking soda + vinegar We're calling you out, Pinterest: Although these pantry staples are handy on their own both baking soda and vinegar can help clean all over the house you should skip any DIY cleaner recipe that involves this not-so-dynamic duo. "Baking soda is basic and vinegar is acidic," says Bock. "When you put them together you get mostly water and sodium acetate. But really, just mostly water." Plus, vinegar causes baking soda to foam up; if stored in a closed container, the mixture can explode. 4. Hydrogen peroxide + vinegar You may have heard that you should spray fruits or countertops with alternating mists of hydrogen peroxide and vinegar, wiping down the surface between sprays. Experts say this method is safe but don't mix the two products in the same container. Combining them creates peracetic acid, which is potentially toxic and can irritate the skin, eyes, and respiratory system. 5. Microfiber What's great about microfiber is that its intricate threads have the ability to trap dust and absorb spills. However, if you toss it in the wash with fabric softener, you could end up destroying their effectiveness. 2. Sportswear Many types of athletic wear have wicking technology to absorb sweat from your skin and keep you cool when you're working out. If you use fabric softener on these garments, it'll leave a coating that will prevent them from well, wicking. 3. Towels While everyone loves to dry off with a soft towel, liquid fabric softener and dryer sheets can reduce the absorbency of terry cloth and other fluffy fabrics. If you feel like your towels aren't drying as well as they did when they were new, skip the softener every few washes. 4. Flame-resistant clothing To reduce the risk that kids' sleepwear will catch on fire, it's required to be flame-resistant. But washing your children's pajamas and nightgowns with fabric softener impacts the flame-resistant properties in the fabric. 5. Water-repellent fabric Similar to flame-resistant clothing, fabric softener could alter the fibers in this material too, according to Forte: "It may impact the ability of the finish to repel water."
