25.01.2022 Just catching a lift on the mail run #pilbaraworldproblems #pilbaralife #justanotherdayinwa

25.01.2022 New merchandise has arrived! Designed by the talented team at Highscore Creative who have provided our graphic support and branding creation for the last 10 years. While not your conventional merchandise, it fits into our business and lifestyle in the Northwest. Dyenamic Sublimation did a fantastic job making the fishing shirts, quality is excellent.

25.01.2022 Great to see the end result of the Pilbara Universities Centre fit out we assisted with this year. Check out the 2021 courses and speak with one of team about how to further your education. https://www.puc.edu.au/future-students/tertiary-courses/

24.01.2022 The Pilbaras first Camping with Custodians project opened earlier this year on Peedamulla Station, just north of Onslow. Camping with Custodians is an Australian first initiative that enables travellers to stay on Aboriginal lands and engage with Aboriginal people. The campground includes 20 campsites and basic amenities including hot showers, unisex toilets, communal fire pit, drinking water, a covered BBQ area. The views on offer are pretty spectacular too! RFF led pr...eparation of the early design and business case for financial support from Tourism WA. We subsequently assisted Tourism WA manage procurement of contractors and completion of the campground. We are proud to have supported this great initiative by Tourism WA, Peedamulla Station and the Jundaru Aboriginal Corporation. Whilst the campground is closed for the West Season, it will reopen around April next year. When you are planning youre next trip along our epic coastline, this is a must stop destination. 24.01.2022 We feel like we have been training for this pandemic for the past 10 years! Having predominantly worked from home offices in numerous locations over the Pilbara and the Kimberley staying at home doesnt have much impact on us, neither does the liquor restrictions! The North-West has had its own liquor restrictions over the years so our lives havent been impacted much (we already have a large stash). We are doing our best to support those who this has impacted by making sure... our subcontractors are paid in time or in advance when we can. Our tips from working from home: 1. Set a routine That is it! Find what works for you and stick to it. We make sure we get out of the house everyday for a walk on cable beach. We clean, cook and eat together as a family to ensure we arent stuck watching tv or phones for long periods of time. We would love to see pictures of your home office, your work routine or something in your day that makes you happy! Pics: My home office in Broome, girls shell hunting, son walking along cable beach.

22.01.2022 An exciting project currently under construction is the Pilbara Universities Centre at the Quarter in Karratha. This will be the first tertiary education centre in the Pilbara, with another facility planned in Port Hedland. This facility will provide local industry and hence local residents more opportunities for business and self-development without having to leave the region. As local residents, local business owners and having children able to use the facilities, RFF is privileged to be managing the project execution.

19.01.2022 Derbys refurbished airport terminal and airstrip was officially opened. The $8 million-dollar project is aimed at enabling the recommencement of a regular passenger transport service from Perth to Derby in addition to supporting its growing remote tourism industry. RFF commenced work on this project in 2014 and assisted the Shire in developing design, feasibility and detailed business case which led to nearly a $6 million-dollar contribution towards the project from the Fede...ral Governments Building Better Regions Fund. We subsequently managed detailed design and construction which was completed bH&M Traceyey . We are very excited to see the State Government has now let tenders to re-establish an RPT service to Derby and look forward seeing this vital service commencing once more. CongratulatioShire of Derby/West Kimberleyley on completion of this exciting project. 19.01.2022 In 2019, RFF in collaborated with the Hedland Collective, a community-based organisation implementing a collective impact approach, developed a comprehensive strategy to respond to the Town of Port Hedlands Childcare issue. The importance of Childcare was highlighted in the BHP Local Voices program delivered through the CSIRO. Although through a more detailed community and business engagement it highlighted that Childcare services in the Town have been challenging to access.... The Strategy has now seen actions being implemented as community, government and industry look to: - increase placement through repurposing of under-utilised assets, - improve opportunities for in-home care; and - create school care placements at local schools where space is available. RFF look forward to seeing another outcome unfold which goes to support the growth and public services in regional communities.

18.01.2022 Town Planning and development changes are progressing in the Port Hedland, located in the Pilbara Region of Western Australia to resolve long-standing issues which have affected port growth and community amenity. Community consultation on what the changes should look like is expected to commence in 2019. Its important to be prepared and engage when the consultation process commences. 17.01.2022 RFF knows first hand through our own business and supporting our clients the positive impact that good governance contributes to growth. Part of this is knowing when to invest back into the business to help support growth. Over the years RFF have invested back into the business to improve our own practices which goes to improve our performance with clients. Most recently we have just started working with Dardi to further transform our Workplaces Health and Safety Procedures into an online system. Contact us today if you require support within your business.

17.01.2022 The State Government is inviting proposals for new tourism attractions and experiences for WAs national and marine parks. Market-led proposals provide great opportunities for the private sector to work with the State Government to grow business. Detailed approvals and feasibility for development of Yindjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation new eco-retreat within the Millstream Chichester National Park lease has just commenced. We look forward to progress a market led proposal with the Yindjibarndi Nation through this innovative approach announced by the State Government. 15.01.2022 Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporations (Karlka) stage one of their office development has recently been completed. RFF worked with a great team including the talented project Architects Jenni from Hurley Architecture & Planning and Sally from Matthews & Scavalli Architects, and Rob from Emirge the appointed builder. Stage twos detailed design is underway to provide additional office space to cater for a growing workforce.

15.01.2022 Crown Land, land which is under management or ownership of the Government makes up more than 90% of Western Australias land mass. Nearly 40% is Unallocated Crown Land. Some of it is capable for use. For example, a pastoral lease, however, usage is restricted, meaning an extra layer of land use control exists on top of a robust State Planning and Land Use Framework applying across Western Australia. In regional Western Australia, in our view, the extent of Crown Land within ...townsites and out into rural and remote areas is one of the most significant issues affecting population and business growth. Our team regularly helps proponents engage with and manage Crown Land matters which could materially affect the sustainability of their operations. We are currently assisting ASCO Group to negotiate reasonable terms from a Crown Lease to more suitable land (for both parties) in the Pilbara Port Authority boundaries. The first step was securing the City of Karratha ongoing support for their operations, obtained at the Citys recent Council Meeting. (Images: www.agric.wa.gov.au)

14.01.2022 The Regional Economic Development Grants for the Pilbara Region was announced today by the Hon. Minister for Regional Development, Alannah McTiernan. Amongst the successful proponents in the Pilbara region was Juluwarlu Aboriginal Corporation who received $50,000 to support plans to develop an online, interactive cultural awareness training program to meet growing demand for the service from the Pilbara regions resources industry.... Juluwarlus ( www.juluwarlu.com.au ) mission is to collect, preserve, reproduce, exhibit, publish and broadcast the culture and history of the Yindjibarndi people. Juluwarlus has been recognised by the National Library of Australia for creating a collection of great significance for local people, as well as in State and national discourse. RFF was pleased to support Juluwarlu in pitching the project for grant funding and glad to see the merits of the business model were recognised through this grant process. Congratulations to all others who were successful in securing funds for their economic development initiative. 13.01.2022 Its been an exciting and busy year for our team. As the year draws to an end we are taking the time to reflect on some of the success stories over the 2018 calendar year. We will start to share them over the coming weeks....but first a bit of fun. We had the privilege of heading out this year with Broome Billfish Charters and Brendon Grylls Group earlier this year whilst the weather was amazing. We were all lucky enough to catch and release our first billfish. Having access ...to such great opportunities on your doorstep are reminders everyday of the great lifestyle, tourism and economic development opportunities regional WA has to offer. Looking forward to another big year in 2019 as the growth dial in regional WA starts to rise! #kimberley #pilbara #smallbusiness #fishing @ Broome, Western Australia

12.01.2022 We are thankful for the opportunity to support the Yindjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation in the pursuit of their own economic development strategy. We recently visited Bargumarrinha (Palm Pool) with Yindjibarndi elders to discuss the design and development vision for a new tourism retreat. Once developed, this retreat will be home base for the visitors on Yindjibarndi Country to receive an immersive cultural experience which follows the Yandanyirra (Fortescue River), with a goal of educating people both about the Yindjibarndi Nation and the absolute importance of Ngurra (Country) to the health and well-being of First Nations people. Support for the project is being provided by Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation and Pilbara Development Commission.

12.01.2022 The Developing Northern Australia Conference is being held Thursday 11th and Friday 12th of July this year in Karratha. An outstanding speakers list has been pulled together by the Conference Committee. This is well worth attending and if you can stick around for the weekend, youll be able to take some time to soak in what an amazing, liveable and vibrant community Karratha has evolved into. 12.01.2022 With Mine closures expected to increase over the next decade post closure land use outcomes can mitigate the potential impacts of social transition for the workforce and communities connected to the mine site. Using a mine in Western Australia's Pilbara region we were able to evaluate and map the practicalities of achieving alternative post closure land use outcomes aimed at socio-economic benefit for local communities. The paper "Charting a course toward sustainable post-closure outcomes: Learnings from the Pilbara" by Owen Hightower (RFF), Kim Ferguson (BHP) and Tim Cooper (BHP) was recently presented at the Life of Mine Conference 2021.

10.01.2022 Sealing Cape Leveque Road in the Kimberley Region of Western Australia has caused some concern amongst some recently, even though the project has been funded since 2016. We think its a good thing, providing opportunities for more affordable basic living needs and employment for a community which has a median weekly income around half the State and an unemployment rate around double the State. 09.01.2022 WOODSIDE CAMP PROJECT GOES BACK TO COUNCIL The City of Karratha will consider a request from Woodside to amend the Bay Village Camp approval at its 19/11/2018 Council Meeting - http://karratha.wa.gov.au//181119%20OCM%20AGENDA%20NOVEMBE The application seeks to extend the approval from 10 to 15 years and reduce total rooms from 700 to 604.... Consultants for Woodside outlined in the application letter time-frame of 10-years does not provide certainty required to secure financial funding for the project. The letter doesnt reference any risk associated to future major growth projects like Browse. Woodside representatives outlined at the 9 October Joint Development Assessment Panel meeting, where the application was originally determined that it will immediately sub-lease the Bay Village site to DIF Management Australia Pty Ltd, the original company who proposed to lease the site from the State . Its companys Directors include Michel Steenbergen who is also the Managing Director of DIF (http://www.dif.eu) a leading independent fund management company. Woodside has also lodged an appeal with the State Administrative Tribunal seeking to extend the approval to 30-years and remove any restrictions about who may occupy the facility. City Officers have recommended supporting the revised proposal and it has been implied in the report that Woodside would then withdraw the appeal, despite nothing being attached from Woodside confirming this to be the case. The resources sector remains the economic lifeblood of the Pilbara region. A secure future for the region also requires a growing permanent residential community and small business sector. Well be at the Meeting this Monday evening and look forward to seeing the outcome. #karratha #fifo #fifolife #pilbara #localgovernment City of KarrathaeWoodside EnergyaWoodside North West Woodside North West

07.01.2022 We continue to support the owners of the Cockatoo Island, WA townsite and resort as they push forward with re-establishing one of Western Australia most unique and picturesque tourism operations. A real legacy from the Islands historical mining operations. The Shire of Derby/West Kimberley recently granted planning approval for tourism accommodation on Cockatoo Island which will build on the amazing tours currently provided by Go Horizontal Falls Tours and the tourism histo...ry of the Island first started by Allan Bond in the 80s. 06.01.2022 Such a great outcome for the Pilbara Region with Gumala Aboriginal Corporation and Yindjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation both having successful submissions into the North-West Aboriginal Housing Fund. We love having the opportunity to work on these innovative programs that continue to help develop Regional Western Australia. This program will create pathways towards social, economic independence and well being for Australias first people. 05.01.2022 The City of Karratha pushed forward with recommending that the Cossack Townsite Scheme Amendment be approved by the Minister for Planning at its April Council Meeting this week. The Cossack town-site played a pivotal role in the development of Western Australia, having been the first successfully settled port in the north-west in 1863. It supported the rapid growth of the regions pearling, mining and pastoral industry. If The Amendment is approved by the Minister, it will ...provide certainty for landowners to undertake developments focused on tourism, reactivating a truly unique and important location for Western Australia and the Pilbara region. That approval will rely on the Minister and State Government acknowledging the genuinely unique regional environmental conditions and not rigidly applying a metropolitan focused land use policy framework. 05.01.2022 The draft Port Hedland West End Improvement Scheme No.1 has been release for public comment. The purpose of this improvement scheme is to address the complex land use challenges which have evolved in Port Hedland over many years resulting from the proximity of bulk port operations to residential areas. The Improvement Scheme seeks to implement the State Governments response to the Port Hedland Dust Management Taskforce report, which recommended that measures be put in place ...to limit population growth in the West End by preventing further residential development. The Improvement Scheme, once adopted will finally provide certainty to both landowners and industry about what can be done in the affected area. We are hoping that is backed up by some positive policy settings and guidance which can create the right settings to attract investment into the area and transform it into a vibrant and activated area which reflects the very high value which is placed on this area by the community, particularly its expansive foreshore. Details of the plan can be accessed at https://consultation.dplh.wa.gov.au/land-u/port-hedland-is/. Advertising ends 3 July 2020

05.01.2022 The Hedland Well Women's Centre has been caring for the Hedland Community for the past 28 years and engages over 12,000 women, children and visitors each year. 04.01.2022 With the Cape-Leveque Road sealing set to be completed at the end of the year visitation to the Dampier Peninsula is set to spike. We have been working with a number businesses and community to prepare for the tourists headed their way. Such an exciting time for Broome with so many excellent business opportunities being developed! 03.01.2022 The Port Hedland Innovation Hub, now known as the Web Business Hub officially opened to the Port Hedland community in October 2018. Our team has worked on this project since its inception in 2012, undertaking the early feasibility and design and business case development to secure $4 million dollars from the State Government through Royalties for Regions and BHP. We subsequently managed detailed design and construction of the project on behalf of the PHCCI, with the project ...being delivered within budget. We think the outcome is great, saying that as users ourselves of this coworking and innovation space. 02.01.2022 Our regional communities and economies are about to go through a rough period. Travel restrictions and social distancing measures are already leading to large scale cancellations. This reduction in visitation will directly impact businesses reliant on Tourism. In Australias North West, these restrictions are aligning with the main tourism season which sustains the entire industry year on year. A 3-6 month hit could, in reality mean a 12-month hit to many local businesses. T...he flow on effect will ripple through the entire supply chain. Tours buses being used less will mean they dont need to be serviced as regularly by local mechanics. Less grey nomads mean less haircuts at the local barber. Reduction of intrastate travellers means less pints at the pubs, or dinners out at our restaurant venues. Less patronage at the restaurants, means lower purchases of products, or lower repair and maintenance work for trades. The lower revenue through the door across all sectors of the economy, means lower capacity for locals to step up and support others, because they too need support as well. For Aboriginal businesses, particularly the developing Aboriginal tourism industry, the impacts could be the worse as travel restrictions look to isolate communities from exposure. Health must come first, and the measures being imposed serve a clear purpose to preserve the life and health of the population. What we can do is try and find ways to help businesses and community reduce their fixed costs of operating and then provide a confidence to businesses to stick it out by planning beyond this difficult period. For Western Australians, in regional communities things we could look at doing to help include: - Think about 2021 and start planning or booking to travel in your own State, or even your own region. Give businesses the confidence there is light at the end of this tunnel. - Writing to your local members and councillors seeking support from the State for affected communities and sectors utilising Royalties for Regions which might help people invest in their assets or businesses whilst things are quiet to get prepared for the future. - Writing to your local councillors seeking freezes or relief for businesses and community groups in relation to local rates, rents and even annual fees and charges for licences and applications. - For our Indigenous Businesses, write to the Minister for Indigenous Affairs seeking: o Indigenous Business Australia to freeze loan repayments. o Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation to provide support packages to contribute to baseline operating costs for small and medium tourism enterprise. o Consideration to repurpose elements of the Indigenous Advancement Strategy to also support small and medium aboriginal businesses whose cashflow is being disrupted.

02.01.2022 Meet the new guy! Cameron has recently moved from Kalgoorlie-Boulder to join the RFF team in our Broome office. You will see him working with our Directors Owen and Matt on projects across the Pilbara and Kimberley region. Cameron has a degree in Urban and Regional Planning and has gained some great experience working in local government.

01.01.2022 Our team is currently doing some work around feasibility of new tourism developments up the Dampier Peninsula north of Broome in the leadup to completion of sealing the last 90km of the Cape Leveque Road. We took a family trip recently to remind ourselves what a sealed road means in terms of access and visitation. Its tough gig without it. #tourism #economicdevelopment #Kimberley #northernaustralia #feasibility #townplanning #projectmanagement #regionaldevelopment

01.01.2022 One of the best things about living and working in the North-West Region's is the ability to explore the most amazing places in the world. Recently the RFF team visited Exmouth and Warroora for our annual catch up and strategic planning for the future. #workfamily #exmouth

01.01.2022 One of the best parts of our job is having the opportunity to work on some completely unique projects. The Hybrid Solar Eclipse which has its path of totality crossing over Exmouth in 2023 will truly be a unique experience with the potential economic benefits stretching from the Gascoyne to the Kimberley regions. Appointed by Tourism WA we are working on visitation numbers, capacity and infrastructure requirements to ensure Exmouth has the ability to cater for this amazing phenomenon. We know from personal experience he and his wife Kathy will enjoy the Port Hedland lifestyle and the welcoming local community that comes with it!

01.01.2022 WAs Iron Ore history is quite amazing. Towns like Goldsworthy, Shay Gap and Finucane Island, were once vibrant communities which held unique races like the Black Rock Stakes. Teams would run 115km from Mount Goldsworthy to Port Hedland pushing a wheelbarrow with 11kg of iron ore. As the song from John Williamson Paint Me a Wheelbarrow states "The team to beat is from the west". https://lnkd.in/eUhjDer The Town architect of Shay Gap was awarded an order of Merit from the Pri...nce Philip Prize for Australian Design in 1974. Aside from the uniquely house designs, a particularly unique feature of the town was a whole of town-site air conditioning system via a communal chilled water plant. Each house was pressurised by a fan coil unit to provide higher pressure than it is outside, to prevent the entry of dust and insects. The scale of investment 50 years back, creating whole new communities, building railways and ports, is worth reflecting on. They provided the foundation of an entire new and significant part of our economy. The continued export of ore through our ports through this pandemic is certainly a big contributor to keeping the lights on for many businesses and families; and supporting the stimulus investment rolled out by state and national governments..
