02.05.2022 Barney Downs #7 & #9 were greeted with a large fast moving fire with a very high fuel load which was a reignition from an extinguished permitted burn from 2 days ago. Assistance was called for with Leefield McKenzie #7, Steinbrook #7 & #9 and Tenterfield #1 all attending and with the assistance of local land holders, containment lines were established and the fire bought under control, covering some 250 acres. The fire remains at a patrol status with high winds predicted for the next two days.

16.04.2022 Barney Downs #7 & #9 along with Steinbrook, 2 x NSW Fire & Rescue tankers and some neighbors assisted Homestead when a simple cleanup for fire protection turned into a quick moving fire. NSW Ambulance and NSW Police were also in attendance.

09.04.2022 Good reminder how easy it is to start a fire when slashing, you can never be too careful. Barney Downs and Steinbrook brigades attended following a great team effort from the property owners and Scrub Road residents who had it all under control.

24.03.2022 ALL FIRE PERMITS HAVE BEEN SUSPENDED. No permits will be issued.

09.03.2022 Please stay visible to passing traffic if you are conducting a Permit Burn along or near the roadside to prevent calls such as this. Remember it is a condition of all Fire Permits that you must remain with the fire whilst ever it is alight.

20.02.2022 CHRISTMAS / NEW YEAR FIRE PERMIT SUSPENSION The Northern Tablelands Bushfire Management Committee (BFMC) wishes to advise that fire permits will be suspended ov...er the Christmas and New Year period. That is from Monday 21st December 2020 to 3rd January 2021. The suspension covers the Inverell, Glen Innes / Severn, and Tenterfield Local Government Areas. The reason for this BFMC approved strategy is due to the reduced number of volunteer firefighters available during this period of the year. Please remember that Fire Permit Issuing Officers are generally volunteers who would also like to have a break and enjoy Christmas and New Year with family and loved ones without interruption. 30.12.2021 TOTAL FIRE BAN for NEW ENGLAND, NORTHERN SLOPES FIRE AREAS on SUNDAY (29 November) That includes the Glen Innes Severn, Tenterfield, Uralla, Walcha, Arm...idale, and Inverell council areas. Fire danger will be VERY HIGH for the Northern Slopes and New England. The ban runs from 12.01am to 11.59pm Sunday What CAN and CAN’T you do? A total fire ban means no fires in the open air. ‘Open air’ means anywhere outside, including a deck, balcony, courtyard or park. Includes cities and towns. Cooking outside is restricted to gas and electric barbecues only, with conditions. No "hot works" like welding or grinding in the open Penalties apply for breaking the rules.
