24.01.2022 Sayonara, 2020.

22.01.2022 It's going to be one of those weekends Coasties! A very hot weekend ahead with temperatures reaching very high 30s today and temperatures hitting the low 40s tomorrow. If you need to go out make sure you find yourself some shade! Temperatures will also remain very warm tonight with a strong Southerly change expected late Sunday afternoon.

22.01.2022 It has been a busy day across the State today with firefighters busy with many bush and grass fires and other incidents associated with the strong winds. A Southery change is due on the Central Coast late this afternoon/early evening. Copacabana fire station remains open with crews ready to respond to any incidents.

20.01.2022 Day 5 of lockdown Coasties and we hope you are all coping, especially with the kids at home on holidays! Like you, we are counting down the days and doing our best to avoid those DIY haircuts

16.01.2022 Thanks to Copa Life Magazine for this wonderful article about Bob Clancy, a life member of our brigade and now a life member of the Copa Men's shed. Bob has been a mentor to so many of our firefighters for over 20 years and gives so much to the community of Copacabana.

14.01.2022 A Total Fire Ban will be in force tomorrow (Tuesday 1 December) across seven areas including North Western, Northern Slopes, Lower Central West Plains, Central Ranges, Northern Riverina, Eastern Riverina and Southern Riverina with Very High to Severe fire danger for the majority of the state. The Central Coast is covered under a Very High FDR with all fire permits suspended for 24 hours from midnight tonight. Check and review your bush fire survival plan and report all unattended fires to Triple Zero (000) immediately.

13.01.2022 The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast heat wave conditions to affect much of NSW until at least next Tuesday. This will increase the fire risk across much of state with Very High and Severe fire danger likely on the weekend. Plan and prepare now by making sure you have a #bushfiresurvivalplan.

12.01.2022 FLASHBACK: NSW RFS crews are generally well equipped these days, but it was not always like that. We've mentioned before that when Copacabana brigade started in 1962, it was common for members to drive their own vehicles to a fire towing a water pump and tools on a trailer behind. They had to raise funds to build their first shed in 1974 before they could get a proper fire tanker. But those early brigade members were a resourceful bunch, always thinking of ways to mak...e dreary but important tasks easier - and there is no more tedious task than rolling up canvas hoses so they are ready for use. Step in former Copa Captain, and Life Member, Gordon Gilmore who designed and built a canvas hose winder in 1982 which would save a lot of time and hard work for years to come. The winder is still in operation at our station today, and the design is thought to have been picked up by many other brigades. We'd love to hear from any brigade which still has, or uses, one of these and please send us a picture! Gordon Gilmore joined Copacabana Brigade in 1973 and was deputy Captaion until 1975. He served as Captain from 1976 until 1982 while simultaneously holding the roles of brigade chairman and tresurer. Gordon's invention also caught the eye of the NSW Bushfire Council who featured it in volume 4 of the 1982 Bushfire Bulletin as "Gilmour's Canvas Hose Winder" "Simplicity is the hallmark of this invention. Designed and built by G. H. Gimore, Captain of Copacabana Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade, the canvas hose winder has been pronounced by bushfire experts as "an apparently simple and effective method of rolling hose on the bite," the article read. The bulletin also featured pictures of Gordon's invention in action and a diagram. We've included a few pages from the magazine here. See more

12.01.2022 An important message from the NSW Police Force. More info: https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19

11.01.2022 It's been another challenging day for firefighters, working in extreme heat with dozens of fires across the state. The good news - the southerly change is headi...ng up the coast. It's already passed through the Illawarra region and is hitting the southern parts of Sydney, with temperatures dropping more than 10 degrees. Unfortunately, the hard work isn't over because the change will cause erratic winds at some of the fires we're working on. At 5pm, there's 62 bush and grass fires across NSW, with the fire at Faulconbridge at Watch and Act ahead of the change.

11.01.2022 Tomorrow, Saturday 28th November will see a Very High Fire Danger Rating for the Central Coast. All fire permits have been suspended for the entire day. Make sure you know what you and your family will do if a bushfire threatens by having a #bushfiresurvivalplan.

11.01.2022 Lastnight we had the pleasure of delivering Santa Claus to a Xmas party in Kincumber for an early visit. We will be bring Santa back around the streets of Kincumber on the 23rd December and Copacabana on the 24th December.

11.01.2022 On this day last year NSW recorded 17 concurrent Emergency Warnings. Communities in the Blue Mountains, Clarence Valley, Richmond Valley, Walcha, Armidale, Namb...ucca, Kempsey, Tenterfield, and the Mid Coast were all being impacted by fire. At 6pm 94 fires were burning across the state. While the losses on that day were significant they could have been far worse were it not for the extraordinary efforts of firefighters and community members. See more
