25.01.2022 **PLEASE SHARE - LOCAL HAZARD REDUCTIONS** Tomorrow - Sunday 30 August 2020 - will see two hazard reductions (HR) undertaken in the Berowra Valley Regional Park between Dural, Cherrybrook and Westleigh. The Pogson HR will take place off Quarry Road, Dural into the valley to Berowra Creek. This will complete the second stage of this burn, the first which was completed off Quarter Sessions Rd in Westleigh previously.... The Barkala HR will take place between Westleigh Drive, Billarga Road, Barkala Place and Silver Crescent - including off Quarter Sessions Rd, between Corang Road and Warrigal Drive. Local road restrictions will be in place, with traffic controllers managing traffic flow during this complex operation. These hazard reductions are important strategic burns which will remove bush fire fuels from the bushland surrounding our community. Keep up-to-date on HR's in your area by visiting the #NSWRFS website or social media channels #PrepareActSurvive

25.01.2022 Please be aware of further local hazard reductions which are planned in coming days.

22.01.2022 This afternoon, a #NSWRFS crew from Westleigh returning from picking up equipment from the Fire Control Centre at Cowan, came across this vehicle fire on the M1 Pacific Motorway. The crew, who arrived on scene just as the first Triple Zero (000) call was made, immediately got to work and was able to contain the fire to the engine bay. The passengers, including one beautiful horse were not injured. Thanks to Berowra Rural Fire Brigade, Fire and Rescue NSW Station 075 Berowra, NSW Police Force and RMS crews who also attended.

22.01.2022 Crews will continue to patrol the Western Crescent hazard reduction today to ensure containment and extinguish any hot spots. This awesome shot was captured by Cowan #NSWRFS Captain Grahame Horne from Asquith yesterday. #PrepareActSurvive

21.01.2022 A year ago today, 94 bush fires burned across the State and our brigade had its first deployment of the 2019/20 fire season. Our crew responded to Taree and immediately spent 12-hours in house-to-house property protection, battling fires of intensity never before seen by our crews. Alongside brigades from the Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai Rural Fire Service, they saved a number of homes but unfortunately weren’t able to save them all - driving into streets which had already been impa...cted by fire. We had no idea that this would mark the start of the most devastating bush fire season in our history. Our thoughts remain with all those who were affected

Smoke is visible in the area (and from across the valley) and may continue to be seen over the weekend. Remember, only call 000 if you see fire without fire trucks in attendance.

09.01.2022 Some wild weather overnight and this morning - if you need assistance during storms and floods, call the #NSWSES on 132 500. In a life-threatening emergency, always call Triple Zero (000).

09.01.2022 Two iconic bridges, same year, 12,000km apart. Thinking of all those affected in the devastating wildfires in the US.

07.01.2022 THUNDERSTORM FORECAST - Saturday 24 October 2020 The Bureau of Meteorology advises of possible widespread thunderstorms across Saturday 24 October. If you're travelling, take care on the roads. If you need assistance during storms and floods, call the #NSWSES on 132 500, in an emergency always call Triple Zero (000). The entire text of the forecast is below:... Thunderstorms are expected to be active and severe in the west from the start of Saturday as the previous day's storms continue overnight. The main risk area of storms will clear from the far west and shift to the central west, western slopes regions and ranges by the afternoon as the trough of low pressure moves across the west and brings drier airmass behind. Towards the later part of the afternoon and evening, the eastern districts and the southern parts of the coast could also be at risk as some storms in the west drift east, or as storms develop near the southerly change that will move across the southern coast during the day. Damaging wind gusts, bursts of heavy rainfalls, and large hailstones are all concern, but the heavy falls are of particular concern over the southern ranges and slopes. Visit www.bom.gov.au for further information.

07.01.2022 We’re preparing around the fire station for the bush fire season. What are you doing to prepare? #PrepareActSurvive #NSWRFS #wrfb

05.01.2022 Statement from the NSW RFS. The NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) confirms the death of a volunteer firefighter at Hill End in the Central West region. Jim Shanahan, a member of the Hill End Rural Fire Brigade, had returned to the station after attending a vehicle fire in Hill End when he suffered a suspected heart attack early this morning.... Fellow volunteers provided initial medical assistance including the use of an Automated External Defibrillator. They were supported by NSW SES members, NSW Police officers and NSW Ambulance paramedics, however tragically Jim passed away.
