24.01.2022 This video highlights the importance of correct installation practices when it comes to safety gear. It's all well and good buying the best of the best, but if it's not installed or worn correctly it's not going to do it's job. My understanding of what has happened here is the initial off was caused by a brake failure. The shoulder straps of his 4 points harness have been attached using hooks or quick clips. Upon impact this has caused a massive point load and broken the clip..., resulting in the shoulder straps releasing the drivers upper body. The flow on effect from that is that there is now nothing restraining his HANS device so that also becomes redundant. Conclusion, wherever possible, shoulder straps should be wrap mounted to a bar close to the back of the seat. The strap must be looped back through the buckle to lock it in place. If using a HANS device, make sure you read the instructions and set up the belts accordingly. And finally if you're not sure, get a professional to do the installation for you. See more

20.01.2022 CAMS are changing the rules for rain lights next year. As of the 1st of January they will become compulsory for all race cars. Mounting these lights in boot lids was one of my many jobs when I worked at GRM. So, for a professional look, for your race car, I am running a limited time offer for the first 10 people to book. 19.01.2022 Dedicated to quality! Every RG Customs roll cage is custom hand build and fully TIG welded. I could quite easily have grabbed the MIG and welded in the foot plate by feel but thats not how I roll!

19.01.2022 The time has come to do Matt's excel roll cage. This will be a slightly longer build than normal because filming takes a lot of time but also I have a lot going on outside of work at the moment. But I will try to post a few updates as I go along. In the meantime enjoy the video.

16.01.2022 What a build up. It's been a long time since I've posted anything, I know! I haven't been sitting on my hands just not doing as much car stuff. This is an SR20 manifold for one of the craziest N14 pulsars I know of. The whole car is going through a bit of a modernisation at the moment. 16.01.2022 I often get asked "what is RG Customs, is it a hobby, is it a race team?" Because Facebook will only give me very few characters to explain my page I'll answer it here. My name is Rob, I've worked in fabrication for about 11 years now, nearly 6 of those I spent with Garry Rogers Motorsport where I did a fitting and turning apprenticeship and honed my skills as a tig welder. Now I work in industrial stainless steel (food grade tube and pipe mostly). All that has been, and is, great but I've always wanted to do my own thing, that's why I created RG Customs. At the moment it's something I do after hours but I hope, in time, word will get out and enough jobs will start coming in that I can turn it into a full time business. That's where I need your help to spread the word... tell your friends, tell your family, no job is too small. Thanks!

12.01.2022 Things have been a little quite on the facebook front lately, but since getting back from an amazing honeymoon, I've been getting stuck right into the HG. The finishing touches (from my end) will be going on in the next couple of nights. I'll be putting up some more pics when it's done, so keep an eye out for that. 11.01.2022 Our next build is well under way. This 1971 HG Brougham is in for mini tubs, to fit some big ass wheels and tyres under the rear end, supplied by McDonald Bros Racing Products and a custom built 4 link with components and bracketry from Pro9.

08.01.2022 Things have been a little quiet on the social media front lately. I was away with the family over Christmas and have been enjoying a bit of me time, aswell as getting stuck into a new day job, to pay the bills. Yesterday, though, my first roll cage job for 2019 rolled in. The long awaited little blue excel of Matt's from The Nugget Project. Matt is a good mate of mine from from way back when, trying his hands at a race car build for the fist time. He is also a very talented photographer and is documenting the entire build. 08.01.2022 This job highlights the need for proper weld prep. The first photo shows my finished product. This manifold was getting a new injection set up put on it so the factory holes needed to be welded up so new holes could be drilled and tapped for the fuel rail posts. Someone had already had a go at this and from the surface, looked liked they had done an ok job. But once the machinest drilled through he found a big void behind the build up. This was the original hole. So b...egan the proper preparation. I first drilled out the hole with a 6mm drill. Followed by a 20mm countersink to widen the hole without making it deeper or risking going the whole way through the flange. Then, using a coarse bit in the die grinder, I removed the remaining material to give me a good clean base to start the weld from. I knew that the weld would fill the entire space as I could see the parent metal melting before adding the filler. #the6ps #priorpreparationpreventspisspoorperformance #efihardware #v8manifold #tiglife #weldersofoz

08.01.2022 A great result for @l.nuttall10 and Matt Butters at @thebendmotorsportpark on the weekend. Lee made a lightning fast gearbox replacement, after annihilating 3rd gear, to make it out just in time for race one on Saturday. With solid result in all 4 races came home with 3rd overall for the weekend. Butters had a fairly incident free weekend, a welcome change after last round, to get 3 seconds and a race win to take out 2nd for the round.

06.01.2022 It's been a little quiet here at RG Customs lately as I've been off work recovering from hip surgery. But that doesn't mean I haven't been busy. Being all but banished from the shed has meant I've had a whole heap of time to do the one thing I've been wanting to do for far to long, build my website! It's not far away now so keep an eye out here for a launch date. In other news, I made a trip up to Mildura about a month ago and bought the old girl home. That's right, the NX is... back in Melbourne and hopefully back to stay. I'm planning on taking it out to Sandown at the end of the month, for what I hope will be it's last run before the big transformation begins! Don't forget if you're running in a CAMS race series next year you will need a rear facing rain light. I have them in stock and can ship them to you or bring me your boot lid and I will install it for you.
