25.01.2022 This is a short version of an upcoming documentary uncovering 10 day timber framing and log building course led by American Timber framer and Carpenter Collin B...eggs Design Build Timber Framing in Latvia, Old manor Ratnieki at July 2018. Almost all of the students are non experienced woodworkers from all over the world coming from different backgrounds and having different professions, but all came for a passion for wood and to learn traditional carpentry using hand tools and to believe what can be achieved with their hands if you have a good teacher to follow and a will to succeed. Our way of teaching is hands on learning. Theory is just few hours in first day. Hands not machines. Full documentary coming soon!

23.01.2022 The following words are from Bill Bailey, who passed away in 2006 and appear on the actual poster: These incredible photos were taken in November, 1984. Life on... staging supported by two springboards at 150 ft. in the air when an outlaw Coast Redwood Treestill 7 ft. in diameterstarts a popn and the backcut begins to open can be thrilling. If an unexpected wind comes up, or if the trees were to barberchair, or spin, Jerry Beranek and Keith Ankler, both from Fort Bragg, CA., would not be here to enjoy these photos today. And, if the tree (top) had gone over a little sideways when it fell, Charly Pottorff, owner of Wildcat Tree Service from Manhattan Kansas, who was doing the photography, and who was perched 160 ft. up another tree and 50 ft. to the side of the big tree would not be around to climb another Strangler Fig Tree in Panama. Strength, confidence and professionalism, coupled with that pioneering blood that some people are lucky enough to be born with, pushed that tree top safely off its 150 ft. stump. And, Ill tell you right now, we at Woodland International are both proud and excited that Jerry Beranek and Charly Pottorff were willing to share their dramatic pictures with the world. Early in 1985 Charly Pottorff called from Kansas and said that he was coming to California to visit an outlaw. The outlaw was a little over 10 ft. in diameter at the butt (not the giants of giants, but a good stick), and it was 280 ft. tall. The tree was located near Rockport, CA., and the area was being logged by Jerry Philbrick Logging out of Fort Bragg. This Redwood had been left by early loggers because it was bulbed at the base, had a downhill lean into a watershed area and would fall across State Hwy. 1 if not taken down in two parts. Now, when 40,000 board feet of old growth lumber is on the line the logger imagination starts vibrating. The vibrations resulted in contacting Jerry Beranek, a climber for over fifteen years. And when Charly Pottorff, a climber from Kansas who has traveled the world just to climb trees heard what Jerry was about to do, he dropped everything and headed for Northern California. See more

17.01.2022 This little table almost needed a full rebuild, the sub frame had rot plus many repairs to the veneers on the skirt. The top just needed inlays replaced and refinishing, waxed and sent home with the customer.

14.01.2022 Last week saw the completion of a frame we've been wrestling with for the past month or so. The client supplied all of the timber for the frame, which he mille...d himself and shipped to our workshop. This adds a lot of extra work and we ended up having to source a few replacement beams, but the wild beauty of the timber really shows through. All the trees for the project grew, were felled, milled, and crafted into a beautiful world class frame without traveling more than 150km. You can't get much more locally sourced than that. The style of this project is a two story, 1 room wide, Sling Brace frame. The Sling Braces are the large natural curves in the upper level which provide the great open access for the upper level within the attic space. A noteworthy feature of this site is the wonderful little Australian Red Cedar tree growing right next to the building, which in centuries to come will tower over the home. #timberframe #australianhomes #traditionalbuilding #australianhardwood
