24.01.2022 I have to have an RSA certificate and food safety certificate and other Quals for work. If I get it wrong while serving alcohol the finest $10,444. If the food safety documents are missing its $6300 per document. If I dont get paid my super or my legal entitlements when I leave the job what happens ?... Why cant employers be made more accountable? Assessment to see if they can figure out how to pay people what they are legally owed?

23.01.2022 I like watching your staff throw money in the bin, not. Always check with your local council regarding food safety. Believe or not, they often have good ideas. Yes, there are articles about the impact on the environment and yes, it is important but how about the impact on the bottom line?...Continue reading

22.01.2022 Dont get caught. Interviewing a new job applicant for a position? Ask some basic questions to see if the knowledge matches up with the qualifications. Dont forget these things are a legal requirement, and the penalties for getting it wrong starting to turn serious.... Every one is busy, but who can afford these new fines? $55K fine for a doggy fridge temp record. Environmental health offices and others will ask your staff basic questions. Having a record of there qualification on file is great, but if they dont know what your standard operating procedures are, and even worse they dont know how to find a copy of them, its on you. If they get the answers wrong that opens up a whole grey area then you have to fight to get out of. Get new staff to read your food safety plan and the standard operating procedure that go with it. Then get them to sign a document stating that they have done so. This is the same with liquor licensing and your front of house policies.

13.01.2022 Times are a changing

13.01.2022 May I lick your dogs but? I need to get this flavour out of my mouth. This mornings coffee (I struggle to call it that) from a regular cafe left very little to be desired.... The first sip of coffee was so bad it was a shock to the system. Second sip, I had to try it again because I could not believe it was so bad. The third slip (I NEED Caffeine). The horror was real! I asked a man walking his dog, if I could lick the dogs but to get the flavour out of my mouth. His reply, you will have to wait till I have finished. He had a take away cup from the same place. He stated the walk with his dog for his morning coffee was usually one of the highlights of his day but, this was more like cruel and unusual punishment. Consistency Please! Great coffee in the morning Average at lunchtime Absolute rubbish in the afternoon 3 Different people making the coffee. A Consistent Product is VERY important. Even if it is consistently rubbish, look at some of the major names in take a way food & Bev. There products and service are consistent where ever you go. They even use the same colours & furniture in each establishment, this is done for a reason, its comforting and humans dont like change. You walk in knowing what you are going to get. I can drink a well made coffee with no sugar. The problem is they are getting very hard to find, so now days I order a Mocha with extra chocolate. Standard recipes for food and beverages are your friend. A consistent quality product will give you regular customers and help you control costs.

12.01.2022 Apple once had good customer service 2 x Apple watchs version 4. Purchased on Saturday Setup in store by there people... They got it wrong in store (did not put in cellular settings) and we had to redo it. Each phone redone (setup) 3 times. In the last 3 days over 6 hours (documented) on the phone with senior Apple support people. Problem not fixed, and they are ringing me back next Tuesday. The sad part was the way there staff conducted them selfs.

04.01.2022 Another year, time to grow

03.01.2022 Rule number 1 I was once told the first golden rule is make it easy for the customer to give you there money. That does not mean accepting all major credit cards, although that helps. It means make the whole experience simple to do and with as little pain as possible, even enjoyable if you can.

03.01.2022 A new year, why not make a new start?

03.01.2022 WE HAVE ALWAYS DONE IT LIKE THAT. THEY ARE THE MOST DANGEROUS WORDS BEING USED IN BUSINESS TODAY. Business has to adapt and innovate and so do the people working in them.... Retail, Hospitality and Management are all changing rapidly due to changes in customer expectations, trends and technology. The rise of online shopping has seen a fall in turn over for some businesses. A bricks & mortar business is only going to survive if it can adapt to keep up with its customers, their expectations and give them a good service experience to make them want to come back. Management must be able to help the staff to help the customers. Does the staff have the right tools and information to do the job? If you ask the staff at most places, the answer is no. This leads to stress and staff turn over. The sad part is in most cases management do not know why it is happening or do not listen to there own staff.
