25.01.2022 Putney Preschool Visit Today 066 were invited to speak about fire safety with the kids from Putney Playgrounds Kindergarten. It was an enjoyable morning teaching the little ones about fire safety such as how to dial Triple Zero in an emergency and Get Down Low and Go, Go, Go. Safety talks such as this help us prepare our local community and educate them on how to be fire safe!



25.01.2022 FRNSW Issued Face Mask Fire and Rescue NSW have issued firies across the organization new cloth face masks to help us keep COVID-19 safe whilst carrying out our duties helping the community. 25.01.2022 Rhodes Recruits Graduate! Today two of our newest recruits graduated from their Retained Phase Training and were issued certificates by our commissioner Paul Baxter. The graduation was held at our new Fire and Rescue NSW Emergency Services Academy. Congratulations lads!

23.01.2022 MVA Tonight, 066 crew were responded to 2 vehicle MVA in Rhodes. Firies assisted with making the scene safe and then assisted NSW Ambulance with a medical lift for a patient injured in the crash. As always please drive safe and to the conditions of the road! We don’t want to meet by accident !



23.01.2022 Road Crash Rescue Drill Night Tonight 066 crew joined our local rescue specialists at Fire and Rescue NSW Station 059 Eastwood for a drill night. Tonights drill focused on covering the basics of road crash rescue, particularly focusing on initial stabilization and use of hydraulic tools. Inter-station drills give our On-call firefighters the opportunity to learn from our colleagues as well as focusing on working effectively as a team. ... 066 crew enjoyed this opportunity and we look forward to putting our learning into practice to help protect the community. 23.01.2022 Unit Explosion Today about 12PM, 066 station were responded alongside Fire and Rescue NSW Station 018 Glebe and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 012 Balmain to assist Fire and Rescue NSW Station 023 Gladesville at an explosion in a unit complex in Gladesville. Fire and Rescue NSW Station 042 Ryde and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 017 Drummoyne assisted with extinguishing the fire and evacuation of residents. The scene was quickly rendered safe by first attending crews. Fire and Rescue NSW Fire Investigation Unit are on scene investigating to locate the cause of the incident.

22.01.2022 Orchard Hills Academy Skills Maintenance Today firies from Rhodes 066 took part in skills maintenance at the new Fire and Rescue NSW Emergency Services Academy. Drills included door entry techniques, BA control, High Rise structural fires and Chemical fires.



22.01.2022 HAZMAT Training Night Tonight, 066 crew completed their fortnightly station drill covering HAZMAT. All Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters are trained to respond to Hazardous Materials incidents. Tonight’s training was led by our resident Intermediate HAZMAT trained firefighter RFF Hitchens who performed regular HAZMAT duties at Fire and Rescue NSW Station 216 Bathurst. Our crew conducted a drill utilizing our specialized gas detector and splash suits combined with BA to take gas readings and record them. This training is all part of our commitment to be #preparedforanything !

22.01.2022 Unit Complex Fire About 10PM last night, 066 crew alongside multiple stations were responded to assist Fire and Rescue NSW Station 059 Eastwood and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 042 Ryde at a fire in the rear of a unit complex in Eastwood. 066 arrived and assisted with extinguishing hot spots & overhaul. Our follow on crew also provided an on deck crew on standby. Due to the hard work of the first arriving crews the fire was quickly extinguished preventing further property... damage however the small structure at the rear of the property was lost alongside a few vehicles. 21.01.2022 Our colleagues over at Fire and Rescue NSW Station 83 Riverstone attended a kitchen fire the other night which they successfully extinguished, saving the home. Check out the video of their efforts below. Great job team!

20.01.2022 Heading out in the heat It’s been a hot November day in Sydney and the work hasn’t stopped for 066 station. Our crew was called to multiple AFAs and lift rescue jobs throughout western Sydney including jobs in the heart of Parramatta CBD. You may have caught a glimpse of our truck on 7NEWS Sydney heading between jobs with our friends from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 097 Huntingwood. Remember to stay cool and hydrated during these hot days. Spare a thought for your furry friends and don’t leave them in the car! On a hot day the temperature inside a car can rise almost 30 degrees more then outside even with the window slightly ajar!

19.01.2022 Lift Rescue Tonight 066 crew alongside our local rescue from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 059 Eastwood were called to 3 people trapped in a lift at Top Ryde. 059 and 066 crews worked together to secure the lift and open the doors while a firefighter from 066 crew entered the lift and assisted the trapped occupants with exiting safely via ladder. All occupants were safely freed from the lift and it was handed over to local security for maintenance. ... Another great example of the everyday team work between fire stations in our goal to #ProtectTheIrreplaceable !

19.01.2022 New uniforms, same firefighters! Tonight, Rhodes 066 along with fire stations in the Fire and Rescue NSW Inner West Command ME3 are receiving the newest in personal protective clothing. Our new structural uniform will allow us to be better protected when fighting fires. This new gear will also complement the new laundry system designed to enable quick turnaround of PPC back to firies on the ground and more importantly cleaner uniform. This is all part of Fire and Re...scue NSW’s ‘Clean Firefighter’ principle. So, even though we may look a little different, your local firies are still ready and #preparedforanything when it comes to protecting the community! 19.01.2022 Spillage Tonight 066 crew have been assisting residents in an apartment complex in Wentworth Point. Residents became concerned after a strong petrol smell flooded the upper corridor of the complex. Firies from 066 responded and utilizing a specialist Gas Detector determined that no unsafe fuel was present in the atmosphere. However due to the strong smell firies continued investigating and located a petrol can left in an electrical cupboard that was leaking. Firies made ...the scene safe and utilized our portable fan to dissipate the smell. Always make sure to safely store all hazardous chemicals and ensure all fuels are safely stored away from electrical hazards to prevent combustion.

19.01.2022 Hunters Hill House Fire Last night, 066 crew were called to assist Fire and Rescue NSW Station 023 Gladesville, Fire and Rescue NSW Station 017 Drummoyne and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 042 Ryde with a two storey house fire in Hunters Hill. 066 crew assisted with protecting exposures and defensive fire attack. ... Fire and Rescue NSW Station 018 Glebe attended with a ladder platform to assist with extinguishing fire in hard to reach areas of the top floor of the structure. Due to the quick actions from the first arriving crews the fire was contained mostly to the upper section of the property preventing further property damage to the house and neighboring homes. 19.01.2022 EPPING FIRE | Last night at 9pm, Fire and Rescue NSW responded to reports of a house fire on Essex St, Epping. Crews from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 059 Eastw...ood, Fire and Rescue NSW Station 066 Rhodes and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 065 Rydalmere arrived on scene to find large flames threatening the roof of the home from a ruptured gas main nearby. Firefighters worked quickly to minimise the damage to the home while the utility company worked to shut off the gas main NSW Ambulance were also in attendance however, no injuries were reported. #preparedforanything #fireandrescuensw #fireandrescue

19.01.2022 MVA Today 066 crew were called to a motor vehicle accident in Rhodes. One person was treated by ambulance for minor injuries. 066 crew assisted with moving the vehicles off the road and clearing the scene for traffic to flow. We ask that all our road users please drive carefully when they are out and about! We don’t want to meet by accident!

After a tough year we are honored to have been recognized by the community and look forward to serving you all for years to come!

17.01.2022 Meet our new firefighter! We want to give a warm welcome to our newest firefighter RFF Jayden Haigh! Jayden joins us from Corrimal Fire & Rescue 269 and has been serving the community since 2018. In his time at 269 station Jayden, completed the Motor Driver course which allows him to drive our big red truck!... We wish him all the best as he continues to serve the community here with station 066. (P.S we heard they have some pretty sick dance moves down there at 269 station, if you don’t believe us you should check out their page! )

15.01.2022 Childcare Centre Fire This morning Fire and Rescue NSW Station 042 Ryde and 066 were called to a building fire at a Childcare Centre in Concord West. 042 crew arrived and the small fire in the kitchen was extinguished. 066 crew checked on the welfare of the children & staff whom had evacuated and were found to be safe and well. ... Burwood Fire and Rescue NSW 015 Station attended and assisted with smoke ventilation and atmosphere testing of the building before the site was handed over to the owners.

14.01.2022 MVA Today was a busy day for the crews of 066. Earlier in the day we attended a 2 car motor vehicle accident on Homebush Bay Drive. After checking the welfare of all occupants we assisted with making the scene safe and placing spagsorb to neutralize oil on the road. Later in the night, 066 crew were called upon again to assist at a bus and multiple vehicle accident near the Ryde Bridge. NSW Ambulance and firies assisted with checking on the welfare of all occupants and... rendering the scene safe. Once the vehicles were towed, traffic was able to flow freely again. Please remember to drive safely when out and about! Let’s not meet by accident!

13.01.2022 MVA on the bridge Today 066 crew responded to a 4 car accident on the Ryde bridge. After checking the welfare of the parties involved, 066 crew cleaned debris from the roadway and opened the road for traffic to flow. We all love a Sunday drive but let’s not meet by accident!

12.01.2022 Truck Crashes into Sign Today about 3:59PM, 066 responded to an MVA with persons trapped at Top Ryde. On arrival, our crew located a truck that had taken a wrong turn and collided with a carpark sign which effectively wedged itself between the cabin the tray. The passengers of the vehicle had safely evacuated and were assessed by NSW Ambulance. ... Fire and Rescue NSW Station 037 Gordon attended and assessed the sign and found no further risk of collapse or danger. Ryde Police Area Command and Traffic Management Centre Response attended and a crane was organized to attend and remove the sign. Please be careful when driving in the rain today! We don’t want to meet by accident!

12.01.2022 Concord House Fire Today about 2:13PM Fire and Rescue NSW Station 016 Concord and 066 station were responded to a house fire in Concord. On arrival 016 crew were faced with a granny flat at the rear of a property well alight. 066 crew arrived shortly after and immediately set to work getting our pump to work whilst 016 & 066 crew conducted fire attack. Crews were joined shortly afterwards by Fire and Rescue NSW Station 042 Ryde who further assisted with fire attack at the... rear of the property. A second alarm was called and further resources attended to assist. After 4 hours of arduous work on an already hot day, the fire was finally extinguished. Unfortunately the granny flat was completely destroyed however due to the hard work of all crews the fire was prevented from damaging further surrounding homes. 12.01.2022 Garbage Truck Rubbish Fire At 12:30PM today, 066 crew responded to a truck fire in an open carpark at Concord. On arrival our crew found a large rubbish pile weighing approximately 6 tonnes on fire that had been quickly unloaded by a garbage truck. Our firies quickly got to work extinguishing the fire and were assisted by our friends at Fire and Rescue NSW Station 017 Drummoyne. After some grueling work pulling apart the pile and extinguishing the hot spots, the fire was quickly contained and the scene rendered safe.

10.01.2022 Gladesville House Fire Last night about 5AM Fire and Rescue NSW Station 023 Gladesville and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 042 Ryde were called to a house fire in Gladesville. On arrival firies found the house well alight and immediately commenced fire attack. 066 crew was called along with further resources to assist. 066 were tasked as an On Deck crew then rotated into defensive fire attack at the front of the property. Despite the best efforts of all crews the house was... totally destroyed however the large fire was contained and prevented from damaging neighboring properties. 09.01.2022 Dog Rescued from Balcony Today, 066 crew were called to an animal rescue for a puppy stuck on a 4 storey ledge outside an apartment in Meadowbank. On arrival, 066 crew were met by concerned local residents who assisted firies with setting up a safe area to catch our furry friend. 066 crew with assistance from our friends at Fire and Rescue NSW Station 059 Eastwood entered the unit with the owner and the adventurous canine was brought inside safe and sound!... All in a days work in Fire and Rescue NSW !

09.01.2022 Car Fire in Apartment Basement Tonight, 066 crew were responded to a 2nd Alarm Fire in an apartment complex in Epping after a car was found on fire in the basement of the complex. Over 200 residents were evacuated from the building. Due to the quick response from local crews from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 042 Ryde and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 059 Eastwood the fire was quickly contained. 09.01.2022 What’s on the pump? A majority of Fire and Rescue NSW appliances carry some form of rescue equipment. Here on our favorite fire truck, we carry two sets of Hydraulic Tools which are known collectively as the Rapid Intervention Kit (RIK) or the Door Opening Kit. ... These tools allow our firies to gain access to locations or people in an emergency and perform basic rescue related duties. Primarily, we utilize our tools to access locations during structure fires or for entry into areas during concern for welfare callouts alongside other emergency services. However, for more complex rescues, designated Rescue stations carry specialized gear. Firies here undertake comprehensive and extensive training that allows them to perform all sorts of complicated rescues from rescues at heights, water based rescues, serious car accident entrapment rescue and even mundane work such as lift rescues. These stations generally have appliances fitted for different forms of rescues. You may see wording such as Heavy Rescue or Technical Rescue on these trucks. Our local rescue specialists can be found at Burwood Fire and Rescue NSW 015 Station and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 059 Eastwood. All this equipment is part of our commitment to be #preparedforanything !

08.01.2022 Automatic Fire Alarm Our firies are currently at Rhodes Waterside Shopping Centre for an AFA with our friends from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 016 Concord. We want to remind everyone on the roads in Rhodes this weekend to always give way when you see an emergency vehicle responding with lights and sirens. ... Help us, help the community and give way!

08.01.2022 Work at Heights Training This week 066 crew have been completing their Working at Heights training qualifications. This allows our firefighters to work safely on roofs and certain high spaces primarily in storm damage response incidents. Another way that our firefighters are prepared for anything!

07.01.2022 Animal Rescue Today about 4:50PM, 066 crew were responded to Rhodes to rescue a kitty that had fallen from a balcony in an apartment complex and landed on a ledge below on the 2nd floor. 066 crew attended and located the cat and requested further expert assistance from our local Rescue Specialists at Burwood Fire and Rescue NSW 015 Station. Fire crews then dismantled a window to access the ledge where the cat was located and rescued our feline friend. The cat was assess...ed as fine and RSPCA NSW contacted for further follow up. Great work team!

07.01.2022 Food Storage Facility Fire It’s been a busy 24 hours for 066 station! Last night about 11:57PM our crew alongside multiple stations including our retained colleagues from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 072 Merrylands were called to assist at a fire in a frozen food storage facility in Silverwater. Due to the presence of hazardous chemicals and the fire being behind panelling in the building, the fire was upgraded to a 4th alarm. This included responding our HAZMAT specialists... from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 085 Chester Hill. The fire was quickly contained by Fire and Rescue NSW Station 019 Silverwater and our crew were eventually released. This morning our crews were back at it attending multiple AFAs in the local area with our firey friends from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 042 Ryde. If you see our truck responding with lights and sirens please make sure to give way!

07.01.2022 Mystery Smell from Mangrove Today, 066 crew were responded to a report of a possible Gas Leak in the Concord area. Local residents were concerned after a smell of rotten eggs was wafting through their homes. 066 crew attended and investigated alongside Jemena Gas Techicians and determined the smell was not a gas leak from a main. 066 crew were determined to get to the source of the smell and after following their noses located that a sewage outlet had overflowed in B...icentennial Park. Our firies utilized a gas detector to ascertain what the odour was which returned a reading of Hydrogen Sulfide. Sydney Water technicians were onsite and working on the issue and advise local residents that the smell may be around for the rest of the week as they deal with the issue. Smells like another good job for ole 066!

07.01.2022 Ropes & Ladders Training Last night, 066 crew undertook their fortnightly drill session. This session focused on the use of ladders and cordage which included reviewing use of our stokes litter. Our crew undertake regular training so we can be #preparedforanything.

07.01.2022 Hazard Reduction East Killara Today, Crew 066 and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 016 Concord along with a host of Fire and Rescue NSW appliances are assisting with a hazard reduction in East Killara alongside our colleagues from Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai Rural Fire Service and NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service. This is all part of the plan of being #preparedforanything to protect the community coming into the bushfire season.

06.01.2022 Wires Down This afternoon our firies were busy responding to power lines that had come down in a storm. It’s a timely reminder never to approach live wires on the road and to call 000 immediately if you see wires down!

06.01.2022 Sprinkler Repair Today around 6:45PM, 066 crew alongside Fire and Rescue NSW Station 042 Ryde attended an AFA at an apartment complex in Rhodes. On arrival crews located a sprinkler head that had been damaged by a faulty automated carpark door. Fire crews replaced the sprinkler head however the door was unable to function and would have left hundreds of residents unable to utilize the car park. After confirming with building management, firies assisted with removing the d...oor to allow free flow access for all the residents. #preparedforanything

02.01.2022 Bon Voyage RFF Auguste! We would like to send our best wishes to RFF Auguste who is transferring to Salamander Bay Fire Station! RFF Auguste has been an integral and valued member of the 066 crew. In his time with 066, RFF Auguste completed the Motor Drivers course and was active during the last bushfire season and storm damage emergencies. 01.01.2022 Unit Fire Eastwood At 1:11PM today, 066 crew alongside Fire and Rescue NSW Station 019 Silverwater were responded to assist Fire and Rescue NSW Station 059 Eastwood with a unit fire in Eastwood.
