25.01.2022 Yesterday saw the Ground Breaking Ceremony for Badili Vocational Center, NCDC. This is just one of 7 new vocational centers to be built by Rhodes PNG as part of the Human Resource Development Program Phase 2 (HRDP2) (Dept of Education in Partnership with the European Union). Present were students, Mr Rudie Filon, First Counselor EU Delegation to PNG, Roger Kara, Dept of National Planning and Rhodes Business Development Manager, David Mackenzie.

22.01.2022 A big congratulations to Rhodes' Property Development Manager, Kulu Velena for graduating with a Cert IV in Leadership & Management. The course was run via the PNG Business Coalition for Women and specifically tailored to PNG. Supporting their female staff with training opportunities is just one aspect of Rhodes' gender equality program.

22.01.2022 Rhodes has recently finished the construction of a Family & Sexual Violence Unit building at Waigani, adjacent to the police station. The building will enable police to provide more professional and compassionate services to women, children and men impacted by violence. "This project lies close to our hearts", advised MD Emanuel Papas. Although a small project for Rhodes, the building of the Waigani FSVU was particularly significant for us as we are a company that has its own gender equality program and values and respects the rights of everyone in PNG to live a life free of family and sexual violence. Another unit is soon to be constructed in Bulolo.

Rhodes MD, Emanuel Papas is proud to add that in addition to working with the IFC & Edge, Rhodes are further demonstrating their gender equality leadership via the PNG Business Coalition for Women. Rhodes are represented on the BCFW Board by Dr Linda Van Leeuwen. They are keen to support the BCFW in other ways such as developing tools to help businesses recruit more women into non-traditional roles such as those available in the construction sectors. The ceremony was attended by the Ambassador and Head of Delegation of the European Union in PNG, HE. 10.01.2022 The HON Marise Payne, Minister for Foreign Affairs Australia, recently opened the National Automotive Training Center - another better building, proudly built by Rhodes PNG under the PNGAus Partnership.

10.01.2022 Rhodes is excited to be part of Oil Search Foundation's project to deliver a new Accident & Emergency (A&E) Ward at the Hela Provincial Hospital. The project has received funds from Oil Search Foundation, Hela Provincial Health Authority and Oil Search Ltd. It is another of example of Rhodes' commitment to delivering social infrastructure projects throughout remote areas of PNG. The new A&E ward will provide services to the local communities of over 300,000 people.

04.01.2022 Rhodes Leads Construction Industry on Gender Equality. Rhodes PNG has embarked on an ambitious gender equality program which it believes will position it as an employer of choice for PNG women. Rhodes MD, Emanuel Papas, says that his company has both a moral and business imperative for wanting to recruit, develop, promote and retain more female employees. We have long been advocating for the rights of women within our workplaces and we employ as many women as we can, incl...uding in non-traditional roles such as electricians and forklift drivers. Not only is gender equality the right thing for Rhodes to do but given the lack of skilled workers in PNG combined with the impressive talent of many of the women we currently employ, it is most definitely the smart thing to do. In June, Rhodes signed a contract for workplace gender advisory services with the International Finance Corporation, a member of the World Bank Group. The IFC will provide specialised technical advice on how Rhodes can maximise opportunities for women in its workforce, become an employer of choice for women and men, and prepare it for the world’s leading workplace gender equality certification the Economic Dividends for Gender Equality (EDGE) certification. No other construction company in the world has achieved EDGE Certification although numerous other industries are represented by global brands such as IKEA and Pfizer. Rhodes are further demonstrating their gender equality leadership via the Business Coalition for Women with representation on the BCFW Board and its Addressing Violence working group by Dr Linda Van Leeuwen.
