11.01.2022 Rhodes Veterinary Clinic will continue to look after you and your pets during this national shut down due to the COVID-19 virus. The information available is changing every day and we will update you as new information comes to hand. The Australian Veterinary Association has provided this info sheet - https://www.ava.com.au//information-sheet---covid-19-and-c... Due to the need to protect our staff and our clients we have provided extra hand sanitiser. Please use this on arrival at the Clinic and prior to your leaving. To reduce the volume of traffic in our workplace can we please ask that if possible only one person brings your pet to us. We will arrange our consults and discharges to minimise the volume of people in our Clinic at any one time. 02.01.2022 Recently there have been several cases of Canine Parvovirus in the Colac-Otway District. Whilst no one needs to panic, we strongly advise that you: Check your dog is up to date with their vaccinations. Ensure that all unvaccinated dogs are kept at home/away from areas where unvaccinated dogs may have been until 2 weeks after their final vaccination (for puppies this is 2 weeks after their 16 week vaccination). Canine Parvovirus causes severe vomiting and diarrhoea that can regularly be fatal even with treatment. It is a difficult virus to kill and can survive in the environment for a long time. Vaccination is the single most effective means of prevention. Pups should be vaccinated every 4 weeks from 6-8 weeks of age until they are 16 weeks. A further booster should then be given 6-12 months later, boosters are then given annually.
