19.01.2022 Very high fire danger today.

19.01.2022 Forstry, RFS and private units are currently extinguishing a tree alight started by yesterdays lightning in the Greenslopes Road, Willigobung area. The fire is contained and crews are working to blackout the scene.

17.01.2022 Batlow RFS brigade will be assisting the resident by conducting a permit pile burn at the rear of 12 Batlow Avenue Batlow tomorrow around 10.am (Wed 18th). No cause for alarm if you see smoke rising near Batlow Hill or Gannon St.

12.01.2022 Today we ran a very successful Bush Firefighter assessment day in Darlow. Congratulations to all participants and congratulations to Darlow Brigade for recruiting these new members.

12.01.2022 Heatwave conditions are predicted for this weekend. Please consider postponing activities likley to cause a fire until conditions ease. Activities such as grinding, welding, slashing, mowing are all tasks that could start a fire. Just one spark is all it takes. As you can see by the map below NSW and in particular the South Eastern corner of NSW is in the firing line.

08.01.2022 We conducted a BF course in Tooma over the weekend and what a difference two days makes. Saturday freezing cold with snow, Sunday sunshine. A huge thanks to BlazeAid for sharing the Tooma Hall with us and another huge thanks to them for the incredible contribution they are making in our fire affected communities.

07.01.2022 A special presentation was made today to Tumut Rural Fire Brigade foundation member Colin Marshall. District Manager, Jon Gregory and former District Manager and now Operational Officer with South West Zone, Trevor Reeves made the special presentation to Col on behalf of the Rural Fire Service. Col helped establish the Tumut Rural Fire Brigade in 1982 and served in an active capacity continuously until his retirement from active service in 2018. During this time Col rose to ...the rank of Group Captain and also held various leadership positions including Brigade Captain, Senior Deputy and Deputy Captain. On behalf of the Rural Fire Service and the community of the Snowy Valleys, we thank you Col for your dedication and service to our community.

05.01.2022 Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Severe Weather Warning... for DAMAGING WINDS For people in parts of South West Slopes and Snowy Mountains Forecast Districts. Issued at 5:16 pm Monday, 30 November 2020. VIGOROUS WEST TO NORTHWESTERLY WINDS Weather Situation: A strong cold front will move across New South Wales during gusty, bringing strong to possibly gale force west to northwesterly winds to the Alpine region. DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h are expected about Alpine areas, generally above 1200 metres during Tuesday afternoon and evening Winds are expected to ease by Wednesday morning. Locations which may be affected include Perisher Valley, Charlotte Pass, Thredbo, Cabramurra, Selwyn and Khancoban. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences. * Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall. * Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill. * Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.

05.01.2022 BUSH FIRE DANGER PERIOD STARTS ON THE 1ST OCTOBER 2020. Bush Fire Danger Period and Fire Permits... A Fire Permit is required for burning activities during the Bush Fire Danger Period. Fire Permits help ensure fire is used safely and minimise the danger to you, your property and the community. The key things to remember You need a fire permit if it's the Bush Fire Danger Period. Just because it's the Bush Fire Danger Period doesn't mean you can't use fire - but there are restrictions to ensure fire is used safely. Getting a permit is free and easy. Contact your local Fire Control Centre. There are heavy penalties if you don't follow restrictions or rules. Please note that other restrictions, approvals and/or permits may apply to council areas where the Bush Fire Danger Period has not been declared.
