24.01.2022 Happy New Year, PN Fam! This is an oldie but a goodie. It applies to everything from nutrition to gymnastics. Goal setting is usually where most people sto...p, but to really ATTAIN your goals you have to build your skills for goal achievement. Which goes a few levels deeper: 1 Whats the g o a l that we want to achieve? 2 What are the s k i l l s required to attain that goal? 3 What are the daily p r a c t i c e s that will help build those skills? What goal(s) are you currently trying to achieve? Share with us below.

24.01.2022 A happy note to Green Room patients. The Queensland Government has just opened up remedial massage again so if you have been waiting to book a combined acupuncture/remedial massage appointment they are back on the menu. Please remember to wait on the garden deck if I am still with a patient on arrival to observe social distancing measures.

21.01.2022 For anyone interested in high-level strength training. Here is a great video of Stefi Cohen preparing for and making a 225kg squat at 55kg bodyweight. She is an amazing athlete. Please take note of the importance of practicing the skill of perfect bracing and control at any level of athletics. Exercises shown here are the bird dog, rolling plank and dead bug in her warm up and a good example of how to sequentially prepare the body for load. Please avoid the habit of jumping straight into your work sets if you have time constraints. An injury will hurt your progress more than reducing your accessory work for the day if time is an issue. Choose quality over quantity. Congratulations Stefi. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udK6X3a_s5M

21.01.2022 Sure, sometimes you dont have the luxury of a standing desk or having an active job but there are things, like kettlebell swings, that can make an incredible difference in neck and back pain from working in an office. Come along for a coffee and a chat and lets get started.

19.01.2022 Another great article by Dan John that is worth a read. https://www.bodybuilding.com//the-cure-for-gluteal-amnesia

18.01.2022 "Compared with aerobic exercise, the traditional martial art of tai chi is as good as, or better than, aerobic exercise, for improving the overall severity of fibromyalgia symptoms, new research shows."

16.01.2022 Ecopsychology is not new, but seems to be gaining support. It seems strange to me to be studying that being in nature is good for us. It is stating the obvious ...and something known to us all. How far we have come from knowing we are nature and the health and well being of the natural world, is our health health and well being. "The studies point in one direction: Nature is not only nice to have, but its a have-to-have for physical health and cognitive function." https://e360.yale.edu//ecopsychology-how-immersion-in-natu

16.01.2022 Dear Green Room Patients, I hope this post finds you well and that you have been able to find some moments of stillness in this time of unrest. As you will be aware, the current containment strategy for the newest Coronavirus requires everyone with acute respiratory symptoms, especially fever with cough or sore throat to refrain from entering public places. In line with this, Im asking that everyone with acute flu like symptoms to please reschedule their appointment until th...ey have fully recovered and resumed normal daily activities. Please get your information about the situation from official sources such as https://www.health.gov.au//what-you-need-to-know-about-cor rather than mainstream media that seeks to spread uncertainty in the community. Remember that simple practices like washing your hands thoroughly in soap and water after being in public places and focusing on good nutrition, quality sleep and remaining calm are your best allies at present. Kind Regards, Richard McMahon See more

15.01.2022 Great example of lifting mechanics.

12.01.2022 Do you even lift? Meet the baby boomers breaking records in powerlifting.

12.01.2022 In order to support the social distancing measures at present, I am asking all patients if they turn up early or if I am busy upon arrival to please wait in our outdoor waiting space if weather permits. Thank you

12.01.2022 A little heavy for those not medically trained but a great insight into a potential mechanism underlying COVID-19s variable patient presentations. An interesting suggestion for those of us preferring natural approaches is the potential role Vitamin D can play in reducing the severity of symptoms.

11.01.2022 Cheap, effective and always available. The breath, so simple we forget to use it to its fullest.

09.01.2022 "Acupuncture is not a placebo for treatment of chronic pain. This NIHR-funded systematic review shows that acupuncture is better than usual care and sham acupuncture for pain from musculoskeletal conditions, knee osteoarthritis and chronic headache."

09.01.2022 What differentiates Acupuncturists from those who do Dry Needling? What can we look forward to for our profession when we collaborate with other healthcare pro...fessionals and share what our Medicine is truly about? Watch this final episode on Nicole DeLorey L.Ac to hear what she believes is possible. She reminds us that we are a healthcare system that has proven the test of time. And if we stay true to our medicine, continue to educate other professionals about it and why they should refer to us, the future is very bright. ------------------------ We had the opportunity to interview Nicole DeLorey ( Nicole DeLorey L.Ac ) for AcuTalks! An incredible practitioner and instructor, she shared with us more about how she found Acupuncture, what she specializes in, what trigger points are, and what she believes the future holds for the profession. http://getyourrest.com/ *patient filmed with informed consent* *The opinions expressed in this interview are the subjects own and do not reflect the view of TSCA* #acutalks #acupuncture #interview #future #medicine #healthcare #collaborate #possibility #triggerpoint #triggerpointtherapy #dryneedling #physicaltherapy #chiropractic #collaborate

09.01.2022 Another balanced opinion from Precision Nutrition

08.01.2022 Another nice snapshot on the correct use of bracing strategies by Eric Cressey.

07.01.2022 Some great winter advice from our friends at Empirical Health.

07.01.2022 Dear Green Room patients, last night the Queensland government has announced the closure of Remedial Massage services until the Corona outbreak is brought under control. As such I can no longer offer remedial massage at this time. Acupuncture services remain available at this stage. Apologies to everyone who relies upon those treatments to keep you mobile. Bamboo is such a great teacher in these times of change. Flexible strength and endurance lead to resilience.

03.01.2022 ARE YOU MEETING THE GUIDELINES? The Australian Physical Activity Guidelines recommend we perform 2.5hours to 5hours of moderate intensity physical activity or 1....25hours to 2.5hours of vigorous intensity physical activity per week. But whats the difference between moderate and vigorous intensity? Using a Rating of Perceived Exertion scale can be good to determine how hard you are actually working. See RPE Scale Attached* Its also recommended that we perform resistance training (weight lifting, body weight exercises) at least 2 days a week. Are you meeting the guidelines? Its important to remember that any exercise is better than no exercise. So make a start and work towards achieving these recommendations. For more information on these guidelines check out: https://www.health.gov.au//brochure%20PA%20Guidelines_A5_1

03.01.2022 The ability of the spine to maintain stable behavior when exposed to various forms of perturbation makes it robust, and this robustness is critical to both allo...w movement and bear loads. Among other things, your training core strategies should: -improve robustness -associate AND dissociate specific movements -engage AND prevent specific movements Read full article now ! - MLD

03.01.2022 An important article on acupuncture vs sham. Slowly, the culturally dominant medicine and science, is finding ways to entertain other ways of knowing about heal...th and disease. They say they are skeptical, because they cant find channels or points. We cant find lines of longitude, or latitude, or time, either, but they are all very useful, and functional. "Individual large-scale clinical studies have consistently demonstrated that acupuncture provided better pain relief compared with usual care. However, most studies also showed little difference between real and sham (fake) acupuncture. In order to address this concern, a 2012 meta-analysis combined data from roughly 18,000 individual patients in 23 high-quality randomized controlled trials of acupuncture for common pain conditions. This analysis conclusively demonstrated that acupuncture is superior to sham for low back pain, headache, and osteoarthritis, and improvements seen were similar to that of other widely used non-opiate pain relievers."
