25.01.2022 In addition to the announcement about the extension to the measures put in place to help residential tenants and landlords, the NSW Government also announced late yesterday afternoon an extension to the Retail and Other Commercial Leases (COVID-19) Regulation until 31 December 2020. These measures have been put in place to help commercial tenants and landlords financially disadvantaged by COVID-19. Eligible landlords will be able to receive up to 25 per cent land tax concess...ion where they provide rent relief to commercial and residential tenants in financial distress from October to December. This new concession is in addition to the concession provided to landlords that reduced rent between April and September. Tenants will be required to re-establish their eligibility under the extension to the Regulation if they wish to request further rent relief, while landlords will also be required to respond to a tenant’s request for further rent relief in a reasonable time frame. The NSW Government has also committed $10 million to bolster the NSW Small Business Commission to deliver more mediation and advisory services to assist parties to come to agreements. If you’re eligible, the relief available may: reduce up to 25% of your 2020 land tax liability defer your land tax payments by up to 3 months provide a refund on the amount of rent reduction you’ve given a tenant, or reduce the amount of 2020 land tax payable if you have not yet completed payment.
