23.01.2022 Did you experience the joy of repair in 2019? Recapping an amazing year at RRC from four to over twenty fixers and helpers, and around 120 items saved! Not to mention those items that we restored and advised on to help keep them in circulation. In fact, news just in from HQ has the full scoop: *A total of 200 items were fixed this year! (we fixed 100 items in 2018).... * The total weight of those items was 362.86 kg! (That’s a lot of waste diverted from landfill). * A total of 182 participants came to our sessions (not including family members tagging along) If we can keep up the good work and achieve a Christmas with no waste and no plastic it will be double the joy! It’s likely our posts over the summer might drop off a bit we all need a break but we’ll be back in full swing in Feb with a special surprise to kick off the year. Watch this space for updates!

22.01.2022 Together We Can Shine Richmond Community Learning Centre has over the past couple of weeks suspended many of our activities due to the Government advice re: the... Coronavirus. These decisions have been made with great sadness as we understand the importance of your activity and your group to you. At this time, when we are all facing uncertainty, and for many of us there is increasing anxiety, feelings of loneliness and confusion, we would like to press the reset button! Our community is full of amazing, talented and compassionate members. Together we can reach out to each other to ensure our community continues to thrive. We have been brainstorming ways we can make this happen: an online social club, a buddy system, bringing back using your phone to call people! And creating and sharing great online content. We also need your help, share your great ideas with us, let us know how you may be willing to help out, and let us know if you, or someone you know needs help. We’ll see what may be possible. Together We Can Shine! If you are interested in joining our community togetherness program, and receive emails from us to join in the efforts to bring our community together during this time as outlined above; please click on the link below and type in your email address. We'll be in touch! https://mailchi.mp/450cb763fc7d/rclc

22.01.2022 Some good ‘repair’ news from Europe! An eco-design law will be extended to cover phones, tablets and laptops - meaning new goods will have to contain changeable and repairable parts. This will hopefully help minimise the waste from these popular products.... https://www.theguardian.com//eu-brings-in-right-to-repair-

19.01.2022 Rhiannon Irving, the inspiration behind these brilliant examples of re-purposing at its best, made a spontaneous guest appearance at one of our Richmond Repair Corner sessions a couple of months ago. We're hoping she'll be back, once the demands of her good work allow her the time! #zerowaste #sustainableliving #recycle #repurpose

18.01.2022 Due to the current situation regarding the Coronavirus we will not run our March repair session. Our priority in making this decision is for the health and safety of our volunteers and the general community. We hope you are all staying safe and healthy during these uncertain times. ... We hope to be back fixing as soon as we can but in the meantime, we’ll try to post a few handy clips relating common issues we have seen and helped troubleshoot during our sessions. For example, here’s a great way to extend the life of your vacuum cleaner https://youtu.be/V4dycTtF_cM

17.01.2022 It pays to be prepared! You might already have your boomerang bags or reusable shopping bags, so here is another useful project. This blog post is complete with cutting pattern and instructions, so you can protect yourself from dust or disease, without adding waste to the environment.

03.01.2022 Whistle while you work! Finbar Urban Field day last Saturday was a fun way to finish off our year. Richard, one of our regular new electronics fixers at Richmond Repair Corner, came equipped with all manner of gadgetry designed for getting into the trickiest items that have obsolescence built-in. We were treated splendidly by Kath and the Finbar crew, and enjoyed our station right next to the band room. It's always heartwarming to meet our Richmond locals who care about livi...ng intentionally. Finbar - with your community garden, composting, worms, chooks, free books, seed share and dedication to whole living - you totally rock! #sustainableliving #communitygarden #

02.01.2022 The lady with the lamps! One very satisfied visitor sent us these lovely words of gratitude after yesterday's session. "I luckily got my 2 lamps to the last café of 2019. These two items have been a blot on my landscape for a number of years. Couldn't get them fixed anywhere...so grateful to Ed for fixing them both. "Let there be light" And all the terrific ppl volunteering on the day...really felt welcomed into a community...thx again...till 2020!" So that pretty much sums up what we are all about, and wraps it up for 2019. What an incredible year of growth and connection. Did you manage to make it along to one of our sessions? We'd love to read your comments too!
