08.01.2022 There have been 300 inscriptions found for the Original Old Cemetery now called the Pioneer Cemetery. Sadly there are not many headstones or markers left and there is not a lot of information concerning the inhabitants sometimes we strike it lucky. Over the coming weeks we will share some images of remaining headstones and occasionally a Story of the Men, Women and Children who called Richmond home Frank Russell died 07.02.1916 aged 67 years RICHMOND, 18 February 1916. An elderly man named Frank Russell died in the local hospital on Monday last. He was a civil engineer by profession and born in London, but of late years had been with Mrs Lambton on Mountain View. #throwbackthursday #richmondremembers #richmondpioneers

02.01.2022 The Community Health Nurse is lighting up October with a Pink Theme in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2020. Whilst many Australian women and their family and friends are impacted by many different cancers - breast cancer effects one if seven women and is currently the leading cause of death by cancer in women. Whilst many women survive or live long term with breast cancer, some loose their lives and the impacts post either are often lasting and life changing. Th...e McGrath foundation aims to provide specialist breast cancer nurses to women in all areas of Australia, including regional and rural and remote towns. We have two breast care nurses available via the Townsville regional breast care nurses founded by the McGrath Foundation. I am hosting a few events to bring awareness and raise our local support for those touched by breast cancer here in Richmond. A month long "pink pig raffle" will be running and you will see me stationed out in the township - please come and chat. I also will be hosting a morning tea in conjunction with Richmond Shire Council Community Development Officer - Wednesday 21st 9:30am where we can discuss all things "boobs" and "breasts", including health literacy breast care and how to complete a self-breast check. Please register with Stephanie Fields to attend. You can "bedazzle your boobs" activity with craft which will be displayed at RMPHS and put together "pink ladies" which will be planted outside council lawn on a future advised date in October - where messages can be written to those living with, survivors of or loss to breast cancer. A candle lighting ritual may be available pending interest from community and the raffle drawn in the last week of October. If you can't make it to one of these events, please feel free to contact CHN Amber Ali if you would like to talk "breast cancer or boob checks". See more
