24.01.2022 OPEN CHURCH TUESDAYS at St Andrew's tomorrow 10am to noon. Church is open for you to take in the history and ambience, or for private prayer/reflection, or just to sit and relax. You are welcome.

22.01.2022 Put this date in your diary 27 April - there will be so much to see and do, and a rare opportunity to view so many of the buildings that played such a large part in the formation of Richmond. The old Post Office has had a fascinating history built in 1875, housing the Telephone Exchange girls, the PMG, the sorting room for the mail boys (lots of mail back then), the Commonwealth Bank, the Morse Code, Telegram and Money Order man - just a few to mention. I don't think anybody around is old enough to remember the building like this! From the late Mary Avern collection. This will be a special Anniversary for Graham Smith who started at Richmond Post Office on 27 April 1953.

21.01.2022 Michelle's post is repeated here as it gives a neat summary of the history of the property. Note that Eulabah (Grounds Only) will be open on 27 April.

20.01.2022 An update on the buildings opening their doors for our Heritage Festival. This event being organised by the members of the St Andrews Community Engagement Committee. The eight original windows constructed in 1845 desperately need restoration. Despite a generous grant from the NSW Government, we still have quite a shortfall. On hearing of the plan, owners and occupants of other Heritage buildings nearby have come in on the plan, and it has snowballed beautifully, with lots of other great displays and activities under way. So we are looking forward to a great day on 27 April - I hope we see you there!

20.01.2022 Fantastic railway display at Richmond Heritage Festival today. In the backyard of the old CBC/NAB building.

19.01.2022 Can't wait for Saturday!

18.01.2022 Thank you so much for all of you who came along on Saturday to support the Festival. Your happy enthusiasm made all of the work so worthwhile. In the main, the workers were too busy to take too many photographs of the day. If you did it would be be appreciated if you could share. Hard copy for the records would be even better. Unfortunately most of us did not get to see the activities outside our own area so it would be lovely to just get a glimpse.

18.01.2022 Richmond Heritage Festival today - what a huge success A pity that the workers don’t really get a chance to see it all. Joy grabbed a few photos early, mainly in the Old Post Office where there were three long-term ex employees talking and answering questions. Colo Shire Family History Group was flat strap, with a photo display there, and the beautiful ‘Then and Now of Richmond ‘ photo display done by our President Carolynne. She was also very involved in the Richmond Rail display outside with photos and artefacts set up by her son Sean. Carolynne and Joy also did two extensive ‘Then and Now’ PowerPoint in the church auditorium which were very well received. Hopefully we will see lots more images of other parts of the celebrations. Well done to the whole team!

18.01.2022 A very interesting element of the Heritage Festival will be a display and demo of glass restoration techniques. This especially relates to the methods undertaken on six windows in St Andrew's church, originally fabricated when the church was built circa 1845. Of course, over the years, the pieces of glass and ornately etched patterns and colours deteriorated. So various 'tradespeople' and well-meaning members of the congregation tried hard to keep the glass in as good a con...dition as possible? How do we know this? On the old glass you can see where these fixes were attempted. Check it out on Festival day at St Andrew's Church. Lawrence Leadlights will be on site to show the panels before and after restoration, and how the new pieces were made to exactly match the original.

17.01.2022 Some further information regarding the Richmond Heritage Festival on 27 April. Please note that access to the Police Station/Courthouse is yet to be confirmed.

16.01.2022 The historic buildings are on show in Richmond but don’t miss the scones at St Andrews!!

16.01.2022 To assist with the fund raising for the renovation of the eight windows in St Andrews, we will be selling a product that fits everybody's needs these days. These lovely and practical calico bags will be available at a few different points on the day, including the gardens of 'Eulobah', and in the foyer of the Auditorium of St Andrews. They will be selling at $6 each or two for $10. A great little souvenir of the day, or gift for a friend.

15.01.2022 More details are emerging regarding the events on 27 April - Richmond Heritage Day. Colo Shire Family History Group will be presenting their Powerpoint display, ' The Then and Now of Richmond' produced by President Carolynne Cooper. This will be presented twice - at 10am and 12.30pm and will be in the Auditoriam at St Andrews. These two buildings are still standing in the main street. Any idea who occupies them now? There will be the option of enjoying a Devonshire Tea while watching the show.

15.01.2022 At last - we have a Program of events for Saturday to share with you. As with all things there may be last minute changes and additions. Come and enjoy!

13.01.2022 During the Festival we ran three mini bus tours to the Jersey Street Presbyterian Cemetery for a very informative guided talk by Michelle Nichols. Michelle, a local Historian, shared fascinating details of many of the graves where some of the pioneers and interesting local people were buried.

12.01.2022 Work is underway on the new windows at St Andrews. Here is one completed. They are not all the same . Come next Saturday and meet the Lawrence Leadlight people who will be there demonstrating and telling more about the process. The Red Window.

05.01.2022 Just two weeks until the big event! Richmond School of Arts will be throwing open their doors and showcasing some of their history spanning back more than 150 years. The building was opened by Henry Parkes in 1866, and at first became the home of the Richmond Literary Institute. Welcoming parties were held there after the end of the Boer War and World War I. The building has been home to so many organisations and hosted so many parties over the years. The longest spanning group is the Richmond Players. Over all of these years the building has been lovingly cared for by a small group of volunteers, currently headed by President Margaret Thorne. There building has been kept up to date with many extensions and improvements. So pop in and take a look! Saturday 27 April from 9.30am to 3.30pm . Photograph courtesy of Hawkesbury Gazette.

04.01.2022 Watch this space! More details to come.

03.01.2022 Many older folk like me can remember receiving telegrams for such events as weddings and other special events. Some, also like me, may still have them in their possession. Does anybody, by chance have one sent from the old Richmond Post Office? We would love to take a copy for our display on 27th. Unfortunately there are none from that origin in my pile or in other collections that I have.
