22.01.2022 To Degree or not to Degree, that is the question...... Around this time of the year we get A LOT of inquiries from school leavers whether they should do a degre...e or bachelor before lodging their NSWPF Application. We might take this opportunity to clear up a few misconceptions. The ONLY academic requirement for entry into the NSW Police Force is the UCWE. Some institutions imply that it will assist with recruitment, promotion, transfer and increased pay. This is only partially true. 1. It will NOT assist with Recruitment into the NSWPF 2. It may be taken into consideration for promotion some years down the track. 3. A degree may mean a $500 a year extra in the pay packet. 4. Unlikely to assist with a transfer. Obviously a forensic or law degree would assist in that field and or something similar. Whilst we strongly support obtaining further education it may benefit you to do it after you have joined the NSWPF. 1. If it is work related you can apply for the NSWPF to fund the course 2. If it is work related study it may be tax deductible 3. Once you have worked out a career path you can select relevant educational study to best help you achieve that goal. Completing 3 years of study prior to joining will see you possibly miss out on: 3 years of wages NOT including overtime, rates, shift allowance etc Approx $250,000 Missing out on 18 weeks of paid annual leave. Losing 3 years of rank seniority which is considered at transfer and promotion Losing 3 years of superannuation payments. Leave you with HECS debt for the bachelor and the ADPP. We would STRONGLY suggest you weigh all these matters before making a decision that will place you in significant debt and well and truly behind the eight ball. In short if your are wanting to join the NSWPF complete the UCWE and lodge your NSWPF application. We hope this has cleared up any misconceptions, as always we are here to answer any questions you have or ring 1800222122 during business hrs or email [email protected] #nswpfrecruitment #nswpfrecruitmentbranch #nswpoliceforce #nswpolice #policerecruiting #policerecruit #policetraining #pct #Policecareer #policing #policinginformationsession #policeacademy #nswpoliceacademy #nswpoliceforceacademy

22.01.2022 NSW Police and Crime Stoppers NSW are calling on road users to report drink, drug, dangerous and distracted driving on roads across the state as part of a new s...afety campaign. Traffic and Highway Patrol Command and Crime Stoppers will be joined by Minister for Police and Emergency Services, David Elliott, and Minister for Transport and Roads, Andrew Constance, to launch the Four Ds (drink, drug, dangerous and distracted driving) campaign today (Tuesday 1 December 2020). The campaign is focused on enlisting the community’s help to crack down on the Four Ds to prevent crashes and keep loved ones safe. Minister for Police and Emergency Services, David Elliott, said dangerous driving is unacceptable and the NSW Government is determined to highlight the concerning behaviour. This Government is committed to community safety and we know that the 4Ds drink, drug, dangerous and distracted driving are a significant contributor to deaths on our roads. The people of NSW have been through enough this year, we want to see everyone enjoy the Christmas and New Year periods with family without tragedy or chaos, Mr Elliott said. This behaviour is deplorable and we’re determined to help put a stop to it once and for all. The NSW Police Force and Crime Stoppers initiative reminds us all that we each contribute to safety on our roads. 280 people have died on NSW roads so far this year (from 1 January 2020 to 26 November 2020), with speed a factor in 28 percent of cases, drugs a factor in 20 percent, 16 percent alcohol-related. Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander Assistant Commissioner Karen Webb said more people will be using NSW roads in coming weeks with borders reopening and the Christmas holidays period approaching. Keeping the public safe is our top priority. We’re asking for you to help us protect yourselves, loved ones and the community on NSW roads. If you see or know anyone who is drink, drug, dangerous or distracted driving, please report it to Crime Stoppers and we will investigate, said Assistant Commissioner Karen Webb. Our message to motorists breaking the law is clear: someone is watching you now and you will get caught, said Assistant Commissioner Karen Webb. Assistant Commissioner Webb has highlighted some ways road users can report the Four Ds without jeopardising their own safety or breaking the law: - Use a passenger to record the time of the incident and the registration of the driver’s vehicle. - If possible, keep dashcam vision of the incident and provide it to Crime Stoppers or police. - If it’s an emergency where there is a threat to life or someone’s safety please call Triple Zero (000) through a passenger, hands-free, or pull over somewhere safe. - If it’s not an emergency, contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. The CEO of Crime Stoppers NSW Peter Price AM said he hopes the community’s involvement will help improve safety and accountability on NSW roads. Never before have we asked the community to report these crimes and Crime Stoppers NSW is the first, not only in Australia, but around the world, to initiate this campaign, said Crime Stoppers NSW CEO, Peter Price AM, said. This is one of the most important campaigns we have ever embarked upon. These traffic issues are an offence and these offences often lead to innocent people being injured or killed which is absolutely devastating for their families, Mr Price said. We are counting on the community’s strong relationship with us to contact Crime Stoppers and make our roads safer for everyone, he said. Minister for Transport and Roads Andrew Constance said the community’s support could help to save lives. Everyone has the right to get home safely to their loved ones at night. Reporting dangerous behaviour on our roads could be the difference between life and death. We’ve already seen far too many people killed and seriously injured in road trauma this year. We need everyone in the community to help us put a stop to this tragedy and trauma.

18.01.2022 Avoiding the crowds at busy shopping centres is just one of the reasons many of us prefer to shop online during this time. Be warned, scammers don’t take holidays! They rely on you being busy and letting your guard down when purchasing online. Scammers often set up legitimate-looking websites or social media stores to trick you into handing over your money or personal details.... So if you're taking part of the Box Day sales online, here are some tips: * Make your online purchase from known legitimate sites that offer secure payments and offer you a customer protection. * Avoid conducting direct bank transfers or use of international money transfer service providers that do not give you a customer protection. *Please be aware that if you step outside of regulated payment protection rules, you will not be protected and reimbursed for your lost funds. * Check the information about the seller on online public forums for the review and opinions about the seller. https://www.scamwatch.gov.au//buying/online-shopping-scams

17.01.2022 POLICE IMPERSONATION SCAM: Ballina A 23 year old woman received a phone call from scammers impersonating Service NSW employees and NSW Police officers. The scammers informed the victim she was under investigation for tax fraud, and there was a warrant out for her arrest. The tricky thing here is the phone number that came up on her mobile phone screen was that of Ballina Police Station. After the initial call, the victim was contacted through Whats App messaging.... It's the same old story, the scammers convince the victim that if she follows a few simple steps, the matter would be resolved without prosecution. The scammers convinced the victim to transfer a large amount of money into a "safe keeping account', as well as purchasing thousands of dollars worth of Google Play vouchers. All the codes for the vouchers were forwarded to the scammers. As obvious as this may seem to some as being a scam, it's not always so. Scammers often have some information about you to begin with, and are continually improving their skills of trickery. They can now display NSW Police Station phone numbers on your incoming calls screen. One thing you can be certain of is that Police will not ask you to transfer money into an account or to purchase vouchers & I tunes cards. Warrant matters can only be resolved by handing yourself in! In this case, hanging up and calling the Station back would have confirmed it was a scam. We ask our community members to be vigilant. Share information about scams and if ever in doubt, please call your local police station for advice. For information about scams, please visit www.scamwatch.gov.au

12.01.2022 A travel company has been issued a $5000 PIN for breaching a public health order after taking three busloads of tourists to a zoo in the state’s west yesterday.... About 9.30am (Monday 28 June 2021), three buses arrived at the zoo on Obley Road, Dubbo. On board were 128 staff and guests at least 76 of whom were not permitted to travel outside Greater Sydney under the current public health order. Staff at the zoo refused to allow the travellers off the buses and police were called. Investigations into further possible breaches are continuing. Minister for Police and Emergency Services, David Elliott, said now was a crucial time for our state and it was disappointing to see people continuing to breach the health orders. In other incidents, a man and woman have been charged with offences including assault after they allegedly refused to check in with a QR code when entering a restaurant at Forster. About 7.15pm yesterday (Monday 28 June 2021), the couple attended the Wharf Street restaurant and were asked by staff to sign in using the QR code. They refused and were informed they would have to leave if they did not comply. It is alleged the man again refused and picked up a bottle of water and threw it against a wall, smashing it. The man was escorted from the restaurant and it is further alleged the man punched the owner, a 39-year-old man. The woman allegedly bit a 44-year-old man who was attempting to intervene, causing bleeding and bruising to his bicep. The owner sustained facial injuries and a suspected broken nose and was taken to Manning Base Hospital. 05.01.2022 IMPORTANT SCAM INFORMATION: Reports of online shopping scams involving consumer goods, such as shoes, phones, computers and toys, continue to be high. But the most common thing people were trying to buy when they were scammed was puppies and other pets. People aged 24 and under reported the highest number of scams involving phones and computers.... Watch out for popular products being sold at prices much lower than on other websites and sellers requesting payment through direct bank transfer or cryptocurrency, Ms Rickard said. Take the time to consider who you are dealing with and don’t be pressured by special offers. Do your research by checking independent reviews of online stores or the seller’s history on classified websites. Another scam to be aware of if you have made recent purchases online is fake parcel delivery notifications via text message or email. Australia Post will never ask you to click a link to enter your personal details, nor will they ask for credit card details or a fee to deliver your packages, Ms Rickard said. If you have been the victim of a scam, contact your bank as soon as possible and contact the platform on which you were scammed to inform them of the circumstances. Most financial institutions offer a charge back service for credit cards and will dispute a credit transaction with the merchant if they still exist. More information on scams is available on the Scamwatch website, including how to make a report and where to get help.
