02.01.2022 Back pain is one of the most common ailments we see in the clinic, and many people still think a scan (x-ray, CT or MRI) is the best way to find the cause - which can lead then to surgical interventions that may not be successful in alleviating the symptoms... Studies show that degenerative changes (disk degeneration, facet hypertrophy and disk protrusion) found in spine imaging can occur in pain-free individuals as well as those with back pain, and these findings increas...e with age - indicating that some degenerative conditions may be part of normal ageing, and not always the cause of back pain -------- At Richmond Rehab, we take an evidence-based treatment approach and believe its important to look at the patients entire clinical condition and lifestyle - not rely on imaging results alone. We dont want our patients worrying about normal findings in imaging results, and prefer to work with their GP regarding the need for imaging - if were concerned about their complaint or require more information to guide their recovery. From our experience, a strained muscle or ligament and poor posture can lead to back pain and limited movement, yet all can improve within days or weeks, and be treated without the need for spinal imaging scans If you experience back pain - book in to see one of our Physios for a fresh approach to understanding, managing and recovering from your specific condition: http://bit.ly/2lXyLLJ #backpain #evidencebased #physio -------- Ref: W.
