Subject to orders from the NSW Government, we hope that the museum will be able to reopen soon so that you can join us and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the Richmond Vale Railway Museum. 23.01.2022 DID YOU MISS US ON THE LONG WEEKEND? Unfortunately, the NSW Government’s announcement for the reopening of museums and galleries left us with insufficient time to prepare the museum site for the Queen’s Birthday weekend. Apart from all the cleaning and sanitisation procedures and routines which need to be established before we can open to the public, there are other tasks such as preparing locomotives and rollingstock which had been mothballed in anticipation of a longer shut...down and mowing the several hectares of grass which hasn’t stopped growing while we’ve been away. We also need to make sure that our volunteer workforce can return safely to the museum site, so we’ll be checking that they are ready to come back, and providing briefing sessions so that they can assist visitors to use the museum site safely under the new provisions. This will take us a short time to put into place, so keep an eye on this website and our Facebook page for more details of our official reopening. See you soon at Richi!
22.01.2022 MUSEUM TEMPORARILY ClOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE Unfortunately we have had to close due to the COVID 19 outbreak by orders of the Federal Government last Wednesday Night, our maintenance volunteers have placed our steam locomotives Marjorie and Kathleen into long term storage, one of the jobs was to grease the piston rods and side bars for protection from surface rust that occurs in our Damp/cold engine shed as pictured below.

13.01.2022 RICHMOND VALE RAILWAY MUSEUM TO REOPEN Richmond Vale Railway Museum is to reopen its gates to the public on Sunday July 5, following a three- month COVID-19 induced shutdown. Our volunteers have been working tirelessly since the NSW Government announced that museums could reopen from June 1,’ said museum chairman Peter Meddows. ... With three months’ worth of long grass to cut and the intensive cleaning and preparations required, it has taken us a little longer to reopen safely. By next Sunday, we will be able to welcome families back on to the site under safe conditions, offering our displays and train rides for their enjoyment. At this time and until we are secure in operations our full-sized trains will be diesel-hauled. Steam locomotive Marjorie was placed in dry storage at shutdown and it is impractical to bring her back into service while our situation is uncertain. While there is ample space in the grounds for visitors to safely move around, clear capacity signage will be posted for interior spaces in order to maintain social distancing. The museum has also installed multiple hand sanitiser stations across the site to ensure proper hygiene. Train carriages will also have specific occupancy limits and will be disinfected between journeys. The museum display rooms, canteen and souvenir shop will be open under strict social distancing guidelines. Our volunteer staff will soon be identified with blue vests, so that visitors can seek assistance more readily, said Mr Meddows. We are always open to the involvement of new volunteers to join our workforce and maintain the museum’s operations and displays for the enjoyment of the community. The museum is located at 262 Leggetts Drive Richmond Vale about 4 km south of Kurri Kurri. It is open on the first three Sundays of each month and school holiday Sundays from 9.30am. Entry fees are adults $16.50, concession $11.00, children aged 5-15 $7.50 and under 5 free.

06.01.2022 WELCOME BACK TO OUR SUPPORTERS The opening day for Richi after over three months in lockdown dawned bright and clear. Our first visitors were waiting as the gates opened and were joined by many other families and enthusiasts over the course of the day.... Throughout the day, everyone observed the principles of social distancing while enjoying the sun and fresh air and sharing in the fun of our train rides. Unfortunately, the mini-train's motor decided to give up the ghost after 25 years of faithful service which took away one of our regular activities, but Emily will be back and running really soon. So we thank our supporters for turning out in such strong numbers. We look forward to welcoming you again as we return to normal routine. We are open on the first three Sundays of each month and every school holiday Sunday. Gates open at 9.30am and last tarin no later than 3.00pm.
06.01.2022 JUST ASK OUR PEOPLE IN BLUE Do you remember the Man in Blue who used to roam Sydney Central Station providing information to travellers? From this weekend RVRM has initiated its own People in Blue to perform the same service for our visitors.... Museum volunteers will be identified by blue vests with museum branding, and will be happy to provide you with information about our exhibits and activities. Our image shows museum treasurer Frank Bennett modelling the new vest beside a non-air coal hopper which is almost completely restored following damage in the 2017 Richmond Vale bushfire. Don't forget, the museum gates open at 9.30am on the first three Sundays of every month and on every school holiday Sunday.
