25.01.2022 Look what was in today’s Riverine Herald. Thanks Riv. If you live in or around Moama, on that side of the river, you may like to try your hand at croquet. This is one thing you can do with the current restrictions. Please give Marjorie a call and she can tee up some lessons for you at Rich River Croquet Club. Her number is 5480 9985.

25.01.2022 We had 12 starters for golf croquet last Thursday, although not all played three games. There was only one three-game winner - Jan Tracy who was a welcome visitor from Echuca Moama Croquet Club. She had a nett hoop score of +8. Then there were four two-game winners. Alan Holding and Jim Gunn both had +6, with Jim just ahead on a countback. Anne Dodd finished with 0 and Gillian Holding with -1. On Friday last week, Echuca Moama Croquet Club kindly invited five Victorian Rich River members to enjoy a game with them. Thank you EMCC - Cheryl, Jay, Kaye, Helen and Russ greatly appreciated the opportunity and enjoyed playing with you. Today the Club played Kingball and then enjoyed lunch in the bistro. Playing two games, there was only one player who won both games. Well done to Anne Dodd. Jan Tracy and Ian Grant both won one each.

24.01.2022 Some of the NSW club members were able to celebrate Anne Dodd’s birthday with her. Happy special birthday Anne Fiona, Maree, Sandra, Jan, Nannette, Faye, Anne the birthday girl, Ruth, Maureen, Judy, Gillian, Lorraine

23.01.2022 We have the updated Pennant ladders for Association Croquet and Golf Croquet. With only one round to go in GC and two rounds to go in AC things are getting interesting.

23.01.2022 A reminder to members: Tuesday is the last Tuesday of the month so that means lunch in the bistro following croquet

22.01.2022 It was breezy this morning, but the sun was quite warm as 15 players took to the courts for golf croquet doubles. We had four players who won all three of their games. Leading the field was James Gunn with a nett hoop score of +13, followed by Anne Dodd with +11, Darren McLoughlin on +7 and Maree Maher on +6. Dave Hocking scored a hoop in one. The Victorian club members were hoping to be allowed back to the courts following changes to border restrictions this week, but it looks as if they have to wait a while longer.

21.01.2022 Well, imagine that!! Our Emus and our Kangas played each other in final round of golf croquet pennant today and it was a draw. Final score was 6 games 67 hoops each, neck and neck all the way. In the first singles Kangas Russ Smyth and Cherie Lessing won their singles and Emus James Gunn and Alan Holding won theirs. In the second singles Russ and Anne Dodd won their games for the Kangas and Kaye Joyce and Alan Holding won theirs for the Emus. Then in the doubles Kangas Russ... and Anne and Russ and Helen Brierley teamed up to win, and Emus pairs Alan and Kaye and James and Kaye won theirs. The Kangas have made it through to the first final and will play Shepparton next week, with the winner going through to the grand final. In Association Croquet on Wednesday, Rich River had a win against Mooroopna, an important win at this stage of the competition. The final result was Rich River 4 games 99 hoops to Mooroopna 2 games 98 hoops. In the doubles Marjorie Grant and Dave Maher won their game 12 hoops to 9. In the singles Russ Smyth pegged out, winning 26 hoops to 13, Marjorie won 19 to 15, and Dave won 18 to 16. The team needs to win against Shepparton next week to stay in number two position and play in the grand final. In club play today we had 10 members and Fay, a visitor from Geelong, playing golf croquet doubles. Fay was our winner, winning all three games and scoring +15 nett hoops. Runner up was Judy Kingston with 3 games and +13 hoops and third was Gillian Holding with 3 games and +5 hoops. John Kenley scored TWO hoops in one. Members - a reminder that we play John Kelly Kingball on Monday and the Vincent Shield on Tuesday. Be there or call by 9.00am for a 9.30 hitoff. Presentations will be made by Heather Kelly and Roy and Mae Vincent respectively at lunch in the bistro following play. See more

20.01.2022 We were happy to welcome back a group of seven students and a teacher from MAGS yesterday. We're enjoying the opportunity of introducing them to our game and also enjoying their happy smiles on our courts. After the students, 14 golf croquet players took to the courts playing singles. Welcome to visitors Jan, Dave and Darren. Three players won all three of their games. Maree Maher was in first place with a nett hoop score of +8, James Gunn was second with +7 and Ian Grant was in third spot with +6. The courts must be running well - we had four players with hoops in one. Well done to Alan Holding, James Gunn, Ian Grant and Dave Maher. Members are reminded that the courts will be closed for annual maintenance from 9th to 12th September.

18.01.2022 The groundskeepers at Rich River are straight into tackling the annual maintenance of our courts. They do look after us well - thanks guys.

17.01.2022 We had planned to have a student group from Moama Anglican Grammar School last Friday, but a downpour of rain put paid to that. Rescheduled for Tuesday this week, the weather was perfect. We are enjoying the visits of these students and hope to see more of them in the future. And they have taken to the game very well too. One of them scored a hoop in one - remarkable for a learner!

14.01.2022 Have you seen today’s Riverine Herald ?

14.01.2022 We had a few Echuca residents back to the club on Thursday after the border was reopened, but today is the first day back with most Victorians armed with a border pass. GC Captain Helen Brierley is back at the helm, and we want to thank Fiona Larcombe and Anne Dodd for the great job they did with organising club play in Helen's absence. We had 16 players this morning, playing singles. There were four players with three-game wins. Our winner had a nett hoop score of +11, followed by Ian Grant on +7 and Helen Brierley and Dave Maher tied on +6. Dave was just ahead of Helen on a countback. Hoops in one were scored by Anne Dodd, Marg Kennedy and Pam Kane.

12.01.2022 Echuca members quick off the mark this morning were delighted to join their NSW counterparts at croquet this morning. Waking up to the news that the border was open to border area residents brought smiles to grumpy faces! 14 players played doubles and a single. There were three three-game winners. Russ Smyth with +14, Anne Dodd with +11 and Helen Brierley with +8.

11.01.2022 Delightful weather brought a larger number of players to the courts today, and being the last Tuesday of the month, we adjourned to the Golf Club Bistro for lunch. We had 22 members and a visitor - Ian Fasham from Sorrento Croquet Club. Playing singles, we had three three-game winners. Our day's winner was Fiona Larcombe who had a nett hoop score of +10. Runner up was Dave Maher with +7 and Kevin Harrison was in third place with +5. Hoops in one were scored by Ruth Mole, Ja...mes Harrison and Russ Smyth. Our courts are going to be very busy in the next couple of weeks with a very full calendar. Tomorrow Rich River play Mooroopna in association pennant. On Thursday the Emus and the Kangas meet in the final round of golf croquet pennant, and there will be two courts available for social play. On Monday we will be holding the John Kelly Kingball competition, with Heather Kelly on hand to present the trophy at lunch in the Bistro. Then on Tuesday we'll be playing high/low doubles for the Vincent Shield, with Mae and Roy Vincent presenting the trophy at lunch in the Bistro. There is no need to write your names in for the John Kelly and Vincent Shield comps, as games are drawn on the day, but please be at the club or phone your attendance through by 9.00am. And members, don't forget our Christmas Dinner and Presentation Night on Tuesday, 8th December. See more

11.01.2022 We had another visit from Moama Anglican Grammar School yesterday. These students are an absolute pleasure to have at the club and most of them take to the sport like ducks to water. There were seven Year 10 students with their teacher Mr Cadd yesterday. Thanks to Marjorie Grant for the photographs. After the students left we had 14 members playing golf croquet doubles. Welcome to new member Judy Kingston. We had two three-game winners. First place went to Jill Kenley who has only played a couple of times before - well done Jill. She had a nett hoop score of +11. James Gunn was in second spot with +9.

09.01.2022 Happy Memories of playing at the 2019 Rich River Charity Day from the Shepparton Croquet Club. Hope to be back in 2021.

06.01.2022 It was lovely weather for croquet again yesterday and 15 players enjoyed golf croquet doubles. Seven players played three games each, while eight played two and adjourned to the bistro for lunch. There were three three-game winners. Ian Grant led the field with a nett hoop score of +15, ahead of James Gunn with +10 and Dave Maher with +7. There is no more play on the courts until next week while annual maintenance is carried out. Marjorie is happy to introduce interested peo...ple to this sport which is social, low impact and strategic while also being competitive and a lot of fun. If you live in NSW this is something you can look at while some of your other activities may be limited. If you live in Victoria, make a note of Marjorie's number and contact her when restrictions are lifted to the point you can travel to NSW for sport. Marjorie can be contacted on 5480 9985. See more

05.01.2022 Happy birthday Anne Dodd After play tomorrow, all are invited to celebrate Anne’s special birthday with lunch at the Bistro. Just let Fiona know if you’re able to come along. From Wednesday the courts will be closed for annual maintenance, reopening from Monday.

05.01.2022 The wind was cold last Thursday and we only had 14 members arrive for golf croquet and we played doubles. Three players won all three of their games. Well done to Sandra Retallick, our winner with a nett hoop score of +10. She was closely followed by Helen Brierley one hoop behind on +9. Hoops in one were scored by Cheryl Lees, Fiona Larcombe and Fay Zealley. Today the weather was much kinder and we had 19 players playing doubles. Again two players won all three of their ga...mes, and again there was just one hoop separating them. Jay Grant was our winner with a nett hoop score of +4. Russ Smyth was runner up with +3. As it was the last Tuesday in the month we retired to the Golf Club Bistro for an enjoyable lunch. See more

04.01.2022 Beautiful blue skies this morning made the weather ideal for croquet. We had 13 golf croquet players, playing doubles. It was lovely to see Leon Koch back after a bit of a break. Three people won all three of their games. Ian Grant led the way with a nett hoop score of +10, followed by Maree Maher on +9 and Fiona Larcombe on +6. Maree and James Gunn both scored hoops in one. We had a group of students from Moama Anglican Grammar School out to try croquet this morning. Photos and more to follow in another post.

03.01.2022 Yesterday we had a visit from several students and a teacher from Moama Anglican Grammar School, and we were delighted to be able to share our enthusiasm for the sport with this lovely group. And there was some very good croquet played too. One lad laid himself flat on the ground to line up his shot about 3 metres from the hoop. And it paid off he won the hoop from there. Unfortunately not caught on camera. Another trying to get back into the action on hoop 3 hit his ba...ll through the back of the hoop from around 20 metres away. Nice shot! We’re hoping to encourage school groups to play at Rich River once the restrictions are all lifted. For the last three years the Goulburn Valley Croquet Association has run an inter-school competition with great results and enthusiasm from schools in the region. This year’s event was cancelled due to COVID-19 but it would be great to have a couple of school groups compete under Rich River’s umbrella next year. See more
