We got a call from one of our customers today inquiring about 4mm thick plywood overlaid with aluminium. We import it from Europe and have on the floor at our Braeside warehouse in 9, 12 and 18 mm. Unfortunately, we don't have thickness of 4mm customer asked us a question with a bit of heartsore in his voice: "Why cant we make it here?"... This is very good question and I responded: the reason number one is birch tree is not growing in Australia in commercial scale. The reason number two: birch plywood has higher glue absorption properties and bonding capacity compare to pine and hardwood harvested here locally. See more
