23.01.2022 The first scapes are here. I’ll produce over 1000 kg of these this year. They’re as tasty as the garlic, great in stir fry or just cooked alone in olive oil and served with salt and pepper

21.01.2022 An aerial view of garlic harvest. Thanks to @louis.bouvier not only for his flying skills, but also his work ethic, sense of humour regardless of the intensity of the work, and for putting up with me through it all

21.01.2022 My amazing worker Louis has been flying over my property with his drone. It’s so nice to see oblique shots instead of the simple plan views from Google etc.

20.01.2022 Garlic harvest 2020 was a bright spot in a difficult year. It doesn’t look like much when the plants are well advanced, but it’s what lurks below the ground that counts. While not a record in weight (5400+ kg), it’s certainly the best quality crop we’ve had, with plenty of upside waiting for next season. I’ll post a video from my amazing worker @louis.bouvier. He really makes his drone do some amazing things.

17.01.2022 Farewell to our two windfall workers. We’ve never had better than these two. Bon voyages Aka et Félicie

16.01.2022 This is for those who have purchased one of my heirloom vegetable boxes and wondered what to do with the red (Hokkaido) pumpkins. I’ve lost count of the #manningfarmersmarket customers who have returned to tell me it’s the best pumpkin soup they’ve ever eaten. . PLEASE don’t try it with butternuts or any other modern pumpkin...all you’ll get is thin, watery, unpleasant stuff!

15.01.2022 Sending my love, respect and heartfelt affection to all the amazing foodies that I have come to know and connect so well with in recent years. I share the feelings of devastation that are running rampant through these wonderful people in Restaurant Land. To all the amazing chefs and all the other friends that I’ve made in my time servicing your industry, remember that no one is in this alone...we are all limited in what we can do to help individually, but we are a super-organism at this time, and acting selflessly for the good of others will get us through. You all know my contact details, so don’t hesitate to use them.

15.01.2022 I’m just not sure what to think...

15.01.2022 Apart from showing what some lucky customers will get in their veggie boxes this week, it demonstrates clearly why I never made it to photography school. I have always loved the wonderfully varied colours of the heirloom aubergines. Doing them justice is better left to the produce stylists

15.01.2022 While we’re on theme.... no I don’t have a fixation, but I do enjoy my anatomical tomatoes

14.01.2022 We’re harvesting garlic scapes at last. Any chef or amateur gourmet worth their salt should be salivating at the prospect of these going their plates. PM me if you want some. I’m posting 2 kg to a chef today. It’s the cheapest most efficient way to send small quantities, so don’t miss out in these very short season beauties.

13.01.2022 The time comes when decisions need to be made. Coincident with this week’s end of tomatoes for the year is my decision to end my attendances at #farmersmarketonmanning. In the 4 or 5 years I’ve been attending, I have developed a very sincere affection for, and wonderful relationships with, my numerous foodie customers for whom amazing range and quality of flavours are of far greater importance than superficial appearances or price. The opportunities to mix with such a wonderf...ul diversity of culture, ethnicity, personalities and many personal qualities have been so enriching for me, and it is such things that I’ll miss the most, along with the generosity and kindness that so many of you showed me. I will continue to supply my rather unusual brand into Perth in the form of mixed boxes of seasonal produce from the beginning of next summer season. Visit www.warrengrange.com.au for details on how to receive them. If you enrol for access, please note your status as market customers. With my very best wishes and sincerest thanks. See more

12.01.2022 There’s movement under the surface . The bulbs are heaving in the only direction available, and the cracks are starting to show.

11.01.2022 This little frog is not very big. Those are nightshade berries next to him...or her...which are only a few mm diameter. We have 5 or 6 species here, and plenty of them, suggesting a reasonably healthy ecosystem

11.01.2022 A nice moment in demanding times. Thank you to the judges for their favourable decision, and to all my chefs and numerous other customers who give my produce the profile...without you all, I’m just another veggie grower. My thoughts and best wishes are now going out to all of you in this period of returning slowly to better times for everyone. Please stay safe

09.01.2022 To all our customers and friends in this amazing industry, be they producers, chefs, wholesalers, retailers, or just genuine appreciators of high quality produce, we send our very best wishes to you all for Christmas 2020. Please stay safe, hug those you love who are close enough, and send your love to those who are not .

09.01.2022 Heading for the tables if #localproduceladies tomorrow morning. Good choice I think

08.01.2022 Jerusalem artichokes, J’chokes, Sunchokes, Topinambour...even Jerusalem fartichokes. Whatever your names for them, they’re now ready for your winter cuisine

07.01.2022 Our mixed vegetable boxes have been a rather surprising hit with so many, mainly new domestic customers. It’s been very warming to get such support from so many. The demand has meant that some varieties have run short, so some items included aren’t ours, but they’re all from other farmers very close to us, all excellent quality, very fresh, #genuinelysouthernforests produce

07.01.2022 A relative, who is a doctor, has advised me not to attend the #manningfarmersmarket #farmersmarketonmanning. So I am advising, very regretfully, that I won’t be at market for a while. The advice I received is due largely to the way that too many people are not managing themselves adequately cautiously in this crisis. My decision is not taken easily, and is definitely not a negative comment about the market per se, or the owners. I believe that the outdoor nature of the market..., and introduction of special rules, are good, but there is evidence that community transmission is happening, even in WA. My wife has 3 of 5 symptoms of COVID19, but doesn’t qualify for testing. There are, of course, other bugs around as well, so hopefully that is what she has. Regardless, she self-isolated as soon as she showed the first symptoms. However, if she was infectious last weekend, I might be. I currently have no symptoms. I will post separately my offer to supply to customers so they can continue to enjoy the quality and value of my produce. PLEASE, everyone, be safe, act with consideration and caution. We will get through this, but only if we are all thoughtful and considerate of those around us. See more

06.01.2022 On our way to #peachesfreshfood who do know good tomatoes

03.01.2022 Lots more pain destined for #dingo_sauce_co Widow Maker.

03.01.2022 One of my dear friends and customers does absolute justice to some tasty tomatoes

02.01.2022 It doesn’t like like much just yet, but on closer inspection, something is moving...December’s garlic crop is up and .... well, it’s at least walking @ Diamond Tree

02.01.2022 Garlic harvest 2020. This was shot by my fantastic workmate @louis.bouvier on the ground. A fly around is next.

01.01.2022 Load out day is always a colourful day
