23.01.2022 No wonder some big lenders are keen on the Netherlands mortgage broker model... This graph shows the total number of banks in the Netherlands from 99 banks in 2...007 (when the market still operated on an upfront and commission mortgage broking model) to just 44 banks in 2017 (9 years after fee-for-service began to be introduced). "Dutch banking has two important characteristics. Firstly, only a few large institutions dominate its financial markets. In 2016...the five largest Dutch credit institutions, held approximately 85 percent of the total assets. Secondly, the Dutch banking sector is one of the most concentrated in Europe," according to the Banking in the Netherlands report by Statista.com We've been told by the Royal Commission to look to the Netherlands for the 'fee-for-service' model Australian mortgage brokers should adopt. All I see is a decrease in competition, more fees for Aussies and increase in big bank profits.
