23.01.2022 I spoke in Parliament today about Andrew Sharpe, who was tragically taken by a shark at an Esperance beach earlier this month.

21.01.2022 Massive congratulations to the Shire of Manjimup for being awarded the National Minister Coulton Local Government Award for Progressive Community Leadership. A pleasure to present this certificate to Shire President Paul Omodei, Staff and Councillors yesterday.

21.01.2022 Absolutely thrilled to see the new and improved Kambalda Aquatic Centre is now officially open. I couldn’t make it due to being in Canberra for Parliament sitting this week, but I’m proud to have secured $287,000 in funding, which precipitated funding from other agencies for this fantastic project. I’m sure the Kambalda community will get a lot of use out of the pool this coming summer.

14.01.2022 It was great to catch up with Leonora Bowls Club President John ‘Gonzo’ Timms, when I was in town yesterday. They were successful in securing $1500 in Federal Government funding to purchase a computer and some outdoor furniture which I am sure will be put to good use in the coming season.

13.01.2022 Yesterday in Parliament I asked Treasurer Josh Frydenberg to outline how the Morrison Government's unprecedented economic support to meet the challenge of the COVID-19 recession is helping families and businesses in O'Connor and throughout regional and rural Australia more broadly. Here was his response.

12.01.2022 I'm proud to be part of a Government that unashamedly backs Australian industry and Australian workers. The Morrison Government remains committed to keeping Australians safe while protecting our nation's security interests in a rapidly changing global environment. This year’s 2020-21 Defence Budget sees sustained strong investment in Australia's national security, delivering on our commitment to grow the Defence budget to 2% of GDP in the 2020-21 financial year. Over the next... decade, we’re investing in: - $270 billion to upgrade the capability and potency of #YourADF - $1.4 billion to enhance cyber security capabilities and assistance provided to Australians, part of a $15 billion investment in cyber and information warfare - $124.3 million to support the Pacific Step-Up through increased investment in security infrastructure in the region As well as: - A $1 billion investment package to boost Australia's defence industry and support 4,000 Australian jobs - Australia’s high-tech industry manufacturing capacity, and 70,000 jobs across our nation. 12.01.2022 Today, we mark Remembrance Day. Remembrance Day is a time for us as a nation to unite in a minute of silence for those who have died in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. To those of you have served in the Australian Defence Force can I simply say, thank you for your service. And to those families who have supported you, thank you. Originally known as Armistice Day, on 11 November 1918 at 11am, the guns of the Western Front fell silent and the most destructive war t...he world had seen so far was all but over. Allied nations first observed two minute’s silence in honour of those who died and suffered during the war, at 11am on 11 November 1919. However, unbeknownst to those at the time, just over 20 years later, Australia would again be at war. This time some 990,000 Australians enlisted for service within Australia and overseas, of whom 40,000 died. After the Second World War, the Australian Government agreed to the United Kingdom’s proposal that Armistice Day be renamed ‘Remembrance Day’ to commemorate those who were killed in both world wars. This year on 15 August, we marked the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. This Remembrance Day in particular we remember that generation of Australians who lost their lives, and pay a special thank you to the some 12,000 veterans still with us today who served during this conflict. Lest We Forget. See more

01.01.2022 Young people in Esperance and surrounds will now have easier access to mental health services with the opening of a new satellite Headspace service this week. I was honoured and thrilled to officially open the new Headspace on Wednesday. There are more pressures on young people today than ever before and the establishment of this Headspace is so important in providing these services in Esperance.
