11.01.2022 Howdy - Dr Dan here! Today is UNESCO's World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development. Music plays a HUGE role in bridging cultural divides. With a world dividing itself (China vs Western World; Israel vs Palestine, etc.), this has never been more important. I'm always hunting for beautiful, unique pieces of music. Today I heard this on the radio. Enjoy!... COMPASSION is a contemporary 7-movement song cycle for symphony orchestra and voice - a joint project between Australian Composer Nigel Westlake and the well known Aussie artist Lior. It runs for about 40 minutes. It combines culturally rich words from Arabic and Hebrew languages. It is STUNNING and POWERFUL. Treat yourself. Put this on while you tidy the house, do some study, or finish up your Friday in the office. It is remarkable and unique. Not sure what a song cycle is? It's just a series of songs (more than 2 usually) that mean the most when they are performed together, in a specific order. 04.01.2022 Congratulations to all our students, colleagues and friends who worked on The 24 Hour Musical Project last week! It was a real hoot and so good to see people inside a theatre again - even if it was with masks on! (Y'all looked luverly).
