21.01.2022 The Masterclass Series is back! The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Masterclass Series features 2 fantastic presenters this year! The program is below and can be accessed live online and as a recording. All sessions and recordings will be live captioned. The live online sessions will run 12-1pm Sydney time. Read posts, watch videos, use lesson plans, follow curriculums; Paths to Technology has a wide variety of posts covering all types of technology for students with visual impairments of all ages and abilities. With the recent increase in need for accessible digital materials for remote instruction, Paths to Technology now has a Resource Library with available teacher-created educational materials, non-visual digital maps and lessons! 10.01.2022 Join Cay Holbrook in November for a three session on Supporting Dual Media Users! Students with low vision may benefit from accessing printed material through a variety of means and may use both print and braille effectively in their education. These students are referred to as Dual Media Learners and many have specific and unique educational needs that have not been adequately researched in the past. 09.01.2022 BVI Outcomes and Teacher Aide: BVI is back for 2021! BVI Outcomes: Mainstream teachers will benefit from this one-day workshop by gaining a deeper understanding of the characteristics and learning needs of students who are blind or have low vision. They will also gain a heightened awareness of the important role teachers can play in improving the educational outcomes of students who are blind or have low vision. Suggested practical classroom measures will be augmented by e...xploration of wider perspectives that include the issues of literacy development, the use of technology and the opportunities for the students’ social inclusion both in and out of class. Day 1 is scheduled for 26 March and Day 2 is 28 May. Separate registration is available for the online event or purchase Full Registration to access both sessions. 11 November 1-4pm Session 1: Online workshop reviewing accessible scientific calculators and screen reader compatible Maths editors.... Together we will workshop strategies that cater to the calculator and editing challenges facing secondary Maths students with VI and their teachers. Large print, screen reader and braille options will be discussed Session 2: Date to be advised when we can all meet in-person: Together we will workshop strategies that cater to the challenges facing secondary Maths students with Vision Impairment and their teachers. We will investigate options for inclusion of students who use large print, screen readers and braille. Resources for optimising accessibility shall be explored, including screen reader accessible Math editing software EquatIO & MathType for student and teacher use, Maths tips for Teachers of VI, from ‘Paths to Literacy’ website; and the Blennz Maths supplement to inform the stages at which braille concepts and symbols will need introduction. Scientific calculator options and practices will be addressed: Talking & Large Print calculators, handheld calculators (featuring the Orion TI 30XS talking calculator), software, app options and Braille note taker calculators. Graphing calculator software will be used for demonstrating print and audio graphs, and producing stencils for tactile graphs on the fly.
