18.01.2022 Ok, a phone call yesterday and now a an interesting email. The email contained the following text: You've been issued with a traffic violation: Type: Careless Driving InfringementNo: AA2821379133 ... Date of violation: 17/11/2016 Fine: $856.88 AUD The penalty shall be paid-up within the statutory period of up to 12.12.2016. With an attachment. The attachment was a zip file, compressed archive. This file when analysed was a current version of the cryptolocker trojan. (for more details https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CryptoLocker), oh and you don't want one either. The source email address was: [email protected] It is probably one of thousands that were create for this. But as you can see it is definitely not an official government department address. In the past these have been represented as emailed invoices from Power Companies and notification from Aust Post or DHL or other parcel delivery companies.

15.01.2022 Had a fun week, the Crypto Locker, Virus in various form has been active. The primary method of infection is via "Social Engineering". Simply presenting the item as an attachment to an email from a power company. People click to check it and they are infected. The strange thing is it does not have to be their power company. It just has to look official.

09.01.2022 Scams seem to abound at the moment, I have had 3 scam emails in the last week. All dressed up to appear innocuous. For example Your invoice is attached or please click to verify your email account details and the last one was pretending to be a booking reservation confirmation. All from "odd" email addresses. The last one did intrigue me as it was crafted in Java script, that would pop up a dialogue box asking to run as admin. From what I could gleam it would run on Windows, OSX and Linux.

05.01.2022 SCAMS are still prolific. Recently of have seen the re-emergence of the Nigeria scam with emails asking for my bank details so they can deposit millions of dollars in them (NOT) Today I received a scam call from a technician, calling himself Jerry, though sounded Indian, from a company "Windows 35 Technical Company". He told me that my computer had viruses and trojans on board and to prove it he gave me a CSLID value of 00C04FD7D062, which he told me was unique to my compu...ter. Well no it is not the key is related to "Compressed (zipped) Folder SendTo Target" and is not unique to my Windows. He then had me access my event log and look for kernel errors as proof of the infection and asked to to clear the log. The next step was a request to access my PC so that he could clean it. At this point I pulled the pin as it was clearly a SCAM. A quick bit of research while I kept him waiting, told him my computer was slow, gave me a bit further information From Microsoft https://answers.microsoft.com//2460eb45-f391-43ba-8f35-867

04.01.2022 We have had two phone calls today from people claiming to be from Telstra saying our internet had been hacked and that foreign IP addresses were involved . When questioned they supplied a bogus call back number and I asked what were the foreign IPs involved they hung up with out supplying further information. I have since had a phone call from a friend who received the same call. This is a scam call

04.01.2022 Fishing on the Internet seem to be never ending. Got an email today from MyGov asking to verify my details. When opened I checked the source email address and it was from a gmail account. Hmmm definitely one for the "Trash"
