25.01.2022 Deep in the RIDE Media archives, from the pre-digital days, are thousands of photos of test bikes spanning around 10 years, from 1998 to 2008. Each studio session included a Polaroid shot or two to get the lighting right before we ripped into shooting the slides. (Yeah, on film.) In 2006, with a big collection of Polaroids on hand, we published a feature summarising some the bikes that were tested in RIDE Cycling Review here is part 1 of a series of the Polaroids for the #B...ikeGalleryByRIDE. You’ll also find a small blurb on each bike... ___ #ridemedia #ride #cycling #review #Klein Moots #Orbea #Olmo #RetroReview #Campagnolo #Shimano #bikes #bikeporn #Velo #bici #cyclisme #roadbike #gallery #instacycling #TheCyclingLife #bikeracing #Flashback ___ KLEIN: 2003 cost at the time of test: AUD$4,999 weight: 8.06kg frame: aluminium & carbon groupset: shimano ultegra status: unknown memories: first-class package. long-ish wheelbase & great handling characteristics. With fine touches like internally-routed cables the frame was the star of this test: it was also superb to ride. The masters of early aluminium construction won again just remember the rear-facing drop-outs. ___ MOOTS 2003 cost at the time of test: AUD$8,680 weight: 8.3kg frame: titanium groupset: campagnolo record status: returned to the USA (bugger!) memories: an intro to fi’zi:k’s aliante saddle loved it! long cranks changed the nature of the ride fast. Delivered direct from the US for a special test this test was an effort to arrange, but worth every minute one it was ready to ride. It hummed along! Great choice of components to match the exotic frame. ___ ORBEA 2003 cost at the time of test: AUD$8,000 weight: 7.6kg frame: aluminium & carbon groupset: shimano dura-ace status: unknown memories: one of the first orbea frames on test & still a favourite No expense was spared but you get a lot more value from orbea now that the local has really become established in the aussie market. A Basque beauty. gives back every joule of energy you put in ___ OLMO 2003 cost at the time of test: AUD$11,500 weight: 7.7kg frame: carbon groupset:

24.01.2022 Recently it was announced that Marne Fechner, currently the CEO of Netball Australia, will become the new CEO of AusCycling. Get to know this professional sports administrator, watch RIDE Media's interview.

24.01.2022 Yeah, I did it: went for a ride in Team Sunweb pro kit, Jai Hindley signature edition. (Well, his jersey.) You can watch it all... (well, most of it). #creatingmemories

23.01.2022 Yeah, 26 minutes. About 1 ride on a new bike. It was my 3rd ride. It's a long telling of the #StoryOfMyBike, but please have a look. I'm quite pleased with this vid. Hope it makes you giggle.... It's been a big few days and there's a lot more to tell about this bike, but I really wanted to show what came from the 3rd adventure.

22.01.2022 Sarah Gigante interview... "Thinking about [the] nationals really got me through the Melbourne lockdown... I also had a bit of a spur of the moment decision this morning and decided that I’d go full sprinter mode and enter the crit as well. I think that’s because I love racing so much.

21.01.2022 This morning... Near home. Before the ride proper... To everyone who said hello and all those I waved, nodded or said hello to: thanks for the positive reaction(s).... If you saw me and I didn't say hello, it was probably just because I was concentrating on other things. (So, next time? Okay?) Moving right along. This morning's ride earned quite a filming session. This is the opening shot. Let me know if you'd like to see more. (There is some cycling. It's not all about trains and tourism.)

18.01.2022 A track bike for our 2nd #BikeGalleryByRIDE for today: from the nation boasting the reigning team pursuit world champions (and world record holders), Denmark. ___ #teambike #ridemedia @argon18bike #denmark #trackbike #Argon18 #bike #gallery #worldchampion #worldrecord

18.01.2022 "...it’s not quite as serious as much of the other stuff you’ll find on ridemedia.com.au but it sure was a lot of fun. The ride was fantastic, the weather glorious, the location ideal, and the bike performed beyond my (lofty) expectations." Find out more about the Cervélo Caledonia that is on test at the moment... here's a summary (with a video) after my third ride. (Rob)

16.01.2022 The good news is that the new Giro Helios Spherical helmet is now in the country and available in bike shops around Australia. The even better news is that, if you buy a helmet from one of the participating Australian bike shops, you can go in the draw to win a set of Giro custom cycling clothing for you and up to nine mates.

14.01.2022 The story of the Cervélo Caledonia continues to evolve. On the 4th ride, from Woodford to Glenbrook and back (first on the trails, then on the highway), the aim was to ride longer and to talk less. The 3rd ride video (uploaded yesterday) covered a lot of random thoughts while on the trails. And then a little about the bike. The 4th ride covered much of the same territory, with a return up the hill to Woodford via the Great Western Highway which was surprisingly good, even wi...th a lot of traffic. (Of course, there was an incident it’s a road, in Australia, but it wasn’t too bad. And I was calm anyway, because I’d been on the trail first.) This is part of an ongoing series. Please leave a comment if you like it. And ask a question if you have one. Click a thumbs-up, if you don’t mind and see more tomorrow. https://youtu.be/0y2Wrn4JrE0

12.01.2022 Here’s a tip for many bike riders who I’ve listened to recently or, to be more specific, bikes I’ve listened to: lube your chain! It’s really easy. It takes 2 minutes and it makes a big difference. #StoryOfMyBike ... A long clip about something simple.

11.01.2022 Trust me, it was windy... and, yes, I was very careful. And, yes again, it was a very good catch! #NotAScratch #Cervelo #ProjectCaledonia

10.01.2022 Cavendish. Châteauroux. 2008. 2021.... The tradition continues. #TDF2021 Same town. Same salute. Same gobsmacked expression. A lot of victories in between. His 1st and 32nd Tour de France stage wins.

10.01.2022 After a mini-break, we’re back with some 2021 images for today’s #BikeGalleryByRIDE this time with big thanks to the AG2R Citroën team and photographer Vincent Curutchet. It’s a team with a long history but a new name for the season and an entirely new aesthetic. There’s still a bit of brown in the kit but there’s a dynamic jersey design, a bit of red and then the blue we’ve grown used to. What’s also different is the bike and groupset supplier. In 2021, the French team wi...ll race BMC bikes with Campagnolo components. 09.01.2022 Posted a couple of videos on RIDE Media's YouTube channel earlier today... Big thanks to Peter from Clarence St Cyclery for being oh-so cool and professional and accomodating and capable, and for fixing a (tiny) little noise issue that emerged on the weekend. This is the link to the 2nd clip.... The earlier story includes the following sequence (which makes me giggle): "Even though [the noise] has been haunting me for about 15 minutes, now it’s gone silent. That’s strange. So, alright, that’s the best ‘how-to’ I’ve ever conjured: how to fix a problem talk about it! Psychology 101, eh? But I’m talking about a mechanical problem. Okay?"

07.01.2022 Shall we just take a moment to take this in? How cool! Australia and Colombia. First HC climb #TdF2021

07.01.2022 The raw vision highlights of stage 3. Great stuff from Richie Porte, the maestro of a hill in South Australia. And, quite clearly, there's a hell of an audition going on from Luke Plapp who is destined to be a big pro team signing soon. (Footage: Grays PR)

07.01.2022 Ride your bike. Review your thoughts. Rant a little. Save 12 watts.... #StoryOfMyRide #RAW #ridemedia 5 clips. 1 ride.

07.01.2022 Here’s one for the nostalgic cycling aficionados out there, a very interesting project bike as featured in an issue of RIDE Cycling Review published at the end of 2016. This is a #BikeGalleryByRIDE with images by Tom Roschi. This is a replica of the Masi bike from the film #BreakingAway, meticulously recreated by James Sage. James explains, in intricate detail, the work that went into building this bike in a feature that you can find as part of RIDE Media’s popular #RetroRevi...ew series (link below). The respect shown by Sage in this personal project is impressive and the bike is glorious with beautiful Campagnolo components that remind us of an interesting time in cycling. ___ Below is Sage's intro to a much larger feature... "In early 2015 the opportunity arose to undertake a special project: to create an accurate replica of Dave Stoller’s Masi Gran Criterium bicycle from the 1979 film Breaking Away. From first viewing the film has remained a firm personal favourite and Dave’s red bike is a cycling and pop culture icon. The challenge was grasped with both hands. I first saw Breaking Away in high school when my everyday mode of transport was the ubiquitous 1970s Malvern Star 10-speed racer so familiar to school kids of the time. Little wonder the story of Dave, played by Dennis Christopher, and his quest to face the uncertain time between high school and the rest of life armed with some good friends and his trusty bicycle struck an immediate personal chord. Breaking Away received critical acclaim and went on to win multiple awards including the 1979 Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. It was, however, released in a year filled with big budget blockbusters and these days not many people seem to be aware of it. Those who know the movie have taken it to heart, especially within the cycling community. It features near the top of any list of the best sporting films and recently it ranked eighth on the American Film Institute’s list of Most Inspiring Movies. 05.01.2022 Early mornings... great for cycling (and more). Here's an introduction to a video about a ride to the beach last week. There's some tourism, some ranting, some swimming, and a product review that came about by coincidence. Tubeless tyre sealant helped make this ride easy and enjoyable.

05.01.2022 "I’ve worked out from the past is to pre-load on salt before the race. I’ll drink a litre and a half, or two litres, in the morning of a mineral salt mix just to make sure I’m fuelled and ready for the effort." Luke Durbridge, winner of the recent 'Festival of Cycling' stage race, considers a few lessons from his week of racing in South Australia. #TalkingCycling #interview

03.01.2022 A lot has been posted about this bike. Before going riding, however, it had to be built. RIDE Media visited Velofix to get Anthony Challinor to do the mechanical work. See the Cervélo Caledonia come together in the workshop. This is part 1 of an extensive bike build series, showcasing the beautiful Caledonia frame and the SRAM Force AXS eTap ‘Wide’ groupset.

02.01.2022 As the leader of the points classification, Mark Cavendish is in a familiar setting but he never expected that he’d be doing all that again, not in 2021. It is happening. He is winning. And he is now, surely, beginning to consider the number 35. Could it be? Does he dare dream? No, he insists, he’d rather not even talk about that, not now not yet.
