23.01.2022 Engin Cycles starts offering their own precision MTB stems for 35mm bars Engin Cycles is unveiling their second component available for direct purchase a stem for 35mm bars. The 35mm MTB Stem uses similar design language as their seat collar. with a asymmetric details.... Engin uses a no gap style face plate that is supposedly easier to properly tighten than stems that require you to maintain an even gap. To spread clamping forces evenly around the bar clamp, holding firmly, with less risk of crushing high end carbon bars. The stem is made from domestically sourced 6061 aluminum and machined at Engin Cycles HQ in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Engin also points out that they have chosen a Class 12.9 zinc steel bolt instead of the typical stainless steel used on most high end stems. Why? They claim that Stainless has a lower tensile strength than alloyed steel while its hardness properties present the opportunity for deformation at the tool interface. The zinc coated bolts still have high corrosion resistance while better resisting rounding out at the bolt head. Engin has added two new colors this time around with Lime Green and Matte Brown Riders will have their choice of 32, 40, and 50mm stem lengths, all of which are available from engincycles.com

15.01.2022 Do you think the Tour will continue? And What happened with Aru? Today is the Rest Day and all personnel is being tested and the results are to be published tomorrow (Tuesday). think the tour will continue without having teams sent home due to positive tests? The current protocols are that two people on the team, mechanics, chef, riders, all staff test positive, the whole team is out. Several hundred people are due to be tested today (Monday). ... It is possible, maybe probable at least one person will test positive. This will put the Tour into a spin. On the Stage Col de Peyresoude, well within the "bubble" of riders were spectators, without masks, within reach of riders. It is likely at least one spectator was or is Positive. although riders, may test negative, we could see symptomatic or infected riders in around stages 12-14. Overnight we saw Fabio Aru withdraw from the Tour de France. There is rumblings from the team he was suffering psychological issues. I will not comment on that, however is it likely that Aru may have tested positive for Covid 19 and the team has sent him home to avoid the team being DQ'd from the Tour? Fabio himself had no answers for his performance. I truly hope that it is not psychological or Covid for Aru and wish him a speedy recovery. The Tour will continue with Roglic now in Yellow.

14.01.2022 The new Osprey PacksTalon 22 and Tempest 20 hiking and biking packs are now boasting some serious green credentials. PFC-free DWR waterproofing treatment is a given, but Osprey have gone further with one of the first commercial uses of a new fabric made from Robic-recycled high-tenacity nylon. Also, the all-new AirScape back panel is created through injection-molding, which Osprey say reduces plastic use to almost zero. New Sustainable Osprey Packs Pack The men’s Talon 22 and... women’s Tempest 20 day packs feature Osprey’s all-new AirScape back panel design. The injection-molded panel is a die-cut foam piece featuring horizontal channels to allow flex in the vertical plane while staying flat horizontally. The new design is said to eliminate back panel rounding. So, even if you have a full reservoir in there, or you’ve stuffed it to near breaking point, the back panel should sit flat against your back. Osprey’s BioStretch harness and continuous wrap hipbelt should ensure a close-to-body fit an absolute must if you plan on riding with the pack. A pack without these features will likely swing around behind you and out to the sides as you corner hard. So, the new Osprey Talon 22 and Tempest 20 should be ideal for activities that require dynamic body movement over technical terrain. The new Osprey packs are composed of a fabric made from Robic recycled high-tenacity nylon. What’s cool about this fabric is that it has been approved by Bluesign, an an independent verifier of sustainable fabrics. Osprey Talon 22 and Tempest 20 FeaturesThe Osprey Talon 22 and Tempest 20 are packed with super useful features. It seems no detail has been over-looked; these packs have everything you need for an action-packed day in the great outdoors and nothing you don’t. There’s a place for everything, it seems. Access to the main compartment is via a dual zipper. An internal zippered mesh pocket with key clip ensures you don’t lose your car keys half way up a mountain. The top panel features another zippered slash pocket and there’s another easy-access expandable stretch mesh harness pocket too. Two dual-zippered hipbelt pockets provide easy access to snacks on the go. Added bonuses include a tuck-away ice ax attachment with bungee tie-off, a stow-on-the-go trekking pole attachment, a LidLock bike helmet attachment and light attachment for road commutes. An external reservoir sleeve keeps you hydrated on the go.
14.01.2022 Canyon Price Increase Throughout the industry and largely because of the Covid demand on bicycles Canyon like other manufacturers have increased their prices across the range. The increase appears to be 6-7% across the range which may be due to tight availability of components and resources?... Most brands, bikes, and components are struggling to keep up with demand and have little inventory with a lot of bike manufactures now offering pre orders and sold out before production has finished. Some of the price increases we are seeing could be because of the the USD has lost almost 10% to the EUR since the beginning of the year so any products denominated in EUR will eventually see a price increase in the US. But Asian production is mostly in USD and therefore Canyon would be in USD, so they would have an improvement on the cost side, but you would still see a increase in pricing to the US, EU and Australia. So the increase could be due to the supply vs demand and demand is out weighing the supply. The circumstances with supply and demand with local bike shops and bike manufactures at this very crazy time are what they are. We need to be patient and support the local industry as much as possible.

12.01.2022 2020 Tour de France Stage 09 Predictions Pau Laruns (153k) After a flat 50k, the riders hit the first climbCol de la Hourcière, a new climb for the Tour. So new I cant find it on Strava! ... After the descent of the Col they climb over Col de Soudet a longer climb 21.6k, avg 5.6% with a max grade of 15% and climbs 1221m. After the long descent they again go along the valley floor for 30kms before the final climb Col de Marie Blanque 11.2kms, avg 5.2% max pitch of 11.2% 602m of ascent. This climb doesn't look that hard but after the initial climbing we could see climbers and GC riders start to hurt. After the descent and flat section it is 13k of a false flat to the finish. This stage is hard, and may suit a rider like Tadej Pogacar at 0:48sec they may not let him go though. Roglic and Bernal will mark each other. A break could go early with strong climbers, everyone would expect de Gent to make the breakaway, it's a bit too much climbing to make it to the finish. My riders for the break are Julian Alaphilippe, Pierre Rolland maybe Mollema, and Davide Formolo.

08.01.2022 A recent survey by Fitrated, finds that morning exercise can boost creativity, productivity at work. Exercise has many positive impacts, but when it comes to work, it can really make a difference throughout the day. A recent study shows that a far higher percentage of people who exercised in the morning or during the work day noted high levels of focus, creativity and energy at work, which could be the effect of their morning runs. Close to 1,000 full-time employees were su...rveyed to find out when they exercise in the day and how they find that affects their work. 38 per cent of those surveyed exercise before work, 33 per cent exercise during the work day and 68 per cent workout when they get home. he majority of respondents found that their exercise (regardless of when they do it) positively impacts their energy, focus, productivity, problem-solving and creativity at work. There are also stats for respondents who dont exercise at all during the work week. Of this group, only 48 per cent felt creative at work, only 49 per cent said they felt that they could problem-solve quickly and efficiently and 73 per cent said they found it easy to focus on their jobs. While this survey points toward pre-work exercise as the best option for employees, thats no reason to change your daily routine. If youve found a schedule that works for you and youre doing well in both training and your job, you dont need to adjust anything. If youre finding that you are in a slump at work or in training, though, it could be a good time to try something new. Who knows, it could be the best change of your life.
