I am an Electrician in North East Victoria. ... How did you get into hunting: I grew up on a farm in Northern Victoria where I hunted small game and game birds with my family and neighbours. From there it progressed into deer hunting which I become completely obsessed with and now travel the world pursuing. What do you enjoy most about hunting outdoors: Most of all I enjoy seeing completely wild places and animals that some will never experience, Being deep in the Victorian high country feels like home to me. Tell us your best piece of gear and why you love it: Its hard to pick one but I am really enjoying the new performance range, I have taken it through some tough country and it has with stood the test. Any advice for people wanting to get into hunting: Never try to short cut the learning proccess, Take the time to learn the game you intend to hunt and enjoy the journey. 22.01.2022 Team Profile: Andrew Hooper @huntingtasmania Tell us who you are: Im Andrew Hooper, 34 years of age and a qualified plumber by trade. I am married with 3 kids and run my own Guiding and Outfitting business, called Hunting Tasmania, which keeps me very busy.... How did you get into hunting: I was not brought up hunting, so it was not very easy to get in to. Over the years I keep trying to find some where to hunt and eventually landed on my feet. A lot of mistakes were made over the years but I wouldnt have it any other way. What do you enjoy most about hunting outdoors: I enjoy every part of just being outside in the wilderness. To be able to sit back and watch animals in their natural environment without them knowing you are there is pretty special. Also watching a client take their first animal is a real treat, as you get to share in that moment with them. Tell us about your favourite piece of gear and why you love it: I love my Zeiss Conquest Gavia 30-60x85 spotting scope. It lives in my hunting pack. To be able sit back and spend all day glassing from a distance with quality binoculars gives you a huge advantage. Any advice for people wanting to get into hunting: Try and head out with somebody that has some experience, but dont be afraid to make mistakes! Get out and give it a go, you have nothing to lose. Dont take short cuts, do the hard yards and learn to listen to the right people. Shooting an animal is such a small part of the hunt. Tell us a story about your most memorable hunt: My most memorable hunt would be the first time I headed to New Zealand to hunt red deer in the roar. Two Tassie lads just jumped on a plane and we gave it a go. We spent 3 weeks pack hunting on public land and made many mistakes and learnt a lot of lessons the hard way. Both of us were lucky enough to shoot a stag each, not the biggest stags by any means, but knowing we went over on our own and just gave it ago is about as good as it can get.

A quick doe call to stop him had him spin on the spot and looking straight at us, I gave another call and he took off running flat out at us from 150m to 30m. 06.01.2022 We go out in camouflage with binoculars and guns and knives and sandwiches. But the pursuit of death is only a ruse, a cover. As often as not the deer eludes us. The point is not really death but the pursuit of life by life. To get out and discover quite how alive I still am. And the hills grow taller and my feet heavier, but I am still bound to the wild pursuit in this quite literally breathtaking place. 05.01.2022 Team Profile: Jay Johnson @bowhunter_nz Tell us who you are and what you do: My name is Jay Johnson, and Im a mechanic in Auckland ... How did you get into hunting: My best mate got me into hunting. He taught me to shoot the .22 then onto the .308, and after I was okay at shooting that we went out. It took six weeks of hunting every weekend before I shot my first animal (goat) after that I was into everything hunting related, especially the archery side of things. What do you enjoy most about hunting outdoors: To me, the best thing about hunting is sitting around the camp fire at the end of the night and listening to the stories that the other members of the hunting party have. Its an added bonus if they have taken down an animal that day, as we all get to share in the success of that hunter Tell us your favourite piece of gear and why you love it: There are two bits of gear I love, the first being my Mathews VXR hunting bow. Its fast, quiet, and the nicest bow I have ever hunted with, and Im yet to lose an animal to it. The second is the Ridgeline Ascent Softshell jacket, as its very warm with the grid back fleece on the inside which is perfect for those crazy cold frosty mornings chasing deer around. Any advice for someone that wants to getting into hunting: If you know someone that hunts, ask if you can tag along with them. If you dont know any one, there are clubs around such as the New Zealand Bowhunters Society, or the Deer Stalkers Association. These clubs are great as they have shoots, and hunts you can go on with the club members. Otherwise if you want to come along with me for a bow hunt, send me a message and Ill see what I can do Tell us a story about your most memorable hunt: A few years ago, my Wife and I were hunting Fallow in Whanganuni with a couple of friends. It was her first hunt for Fallow, so just watching her excitement grow as we started seeing them on the hill faces was awesome. We climbed high and she shot her first deer at 182m. On top of that, she also got to see me take down an animal with the bow. Of all the memories I have, thats definitely my favorite. See more

02.01.2022 New Zealands largest ever hunter protest took place over the weekend - it was peaceful, everyone was totally respectful, and a lot of fair and reasonable quest...ions were asked of our Government. The recreational hunter in this clip who had tahr salughtered all around him last week in close proximity to the hut he was staying in (with no warning theyd be culling in the area), sums up the situation well - "bull tahr, what a bloody waste"... Jacinda Ardern - in post Covid-19 times, how can you support such an attack on our livelihoods?
