25.01.2022 Albert Sadly, Albert passed away recently. He was unwell with chronic weight loss. Despite close medical attention from our vets his condition continued to deteriorate. Following advice from our vet the difficult decision was made to put Albert to sleep. He was a terrific RDA horse and gave lots of children enjoyment. He will be missed.

25.01.2022 Young riders being shown how to lead their horses into their stalls.

25.01.2022 Last Monday RDA for the year and our young riders receive their well earned certificates.

25.01.2022 Betty Lane, a former, long serving Senior Coach, Secretary and President of our Centre, celebrating her 92nd birthday recently . This is who our outdoor arena is named after! Big Happy Birthday from the and volunteers Betty.

25.01.2022 Hi everyone, the holidays are nearly over and it won’t be long before our boys and volunteers are back

24.01.2022 RDA Central Coast is looking for sponsors for 6 horses that we have. At present our wonderful boys are being looked after by volunteers but the vet maintenance, farrier costs and feed bills still go on. Our horses are all geldings and not young so they are gentle and the children love them. 1)The 1st of our truly gentle horses is Buster. He is gold in colour and approx 20 years young. Imagine how many children he has walked.... 2)The 2nd boy is Jerry, a smaller white horse that the kiddies love. 3) The 3rd horse is Matey. He loves a flower in his hair and is a solid fellow. 4) Our 4th boy is Woody. He has the biggest brown eyes for a little guy. 5) Our 5th boy is Duke. He is the big guy. The kids love climbing high on his back. 6)Our 6th boy is Bart. He is new. One eye- a new comer - but all our horses fit in as they come from all walks of life to the RDA home. We wellcome sponsorship from individuals, companies, clubs etc. Annual sponsorship is $1500.00 per horse Please contact this page. Thank you See more

24.01.2022 Horse Report All the boys are in good shape. They have been getting extra hay and had their winter rugs on. Their hooves are being trimmed every six weeks. Our vet has been attending to any medical requirements. Bart continues to settle in well. Paddock Report All our paddocks are in good condition. The boys have been in our winter paddocks which have had good grass coverage. They have also been having first quality hay (ponies half hay and half teff). We received a load of s...andstone, free of charge, which will be used to support the creek bank areas. Gidday Riding classes for 2020 Our plan is still to commence classes from March 2021. Coronavirus protection procedures will be implemented prior to March. In October we will start contacting schools to get an estimate on the number of riders we will have for 2021. We will also give attention to attracting more independent riders. Horse Sponsoring Eight horses currently require sponsors. Coronavirus has adversely affected sponsorships. A local bowling club was unable to sponsor two horses this year. Promotion on our Facebook page has been successful with a person sponsoring Larry. Sound System The sound system in the arena stopped working in Term 1. A replacement has now been installed and is ready for when classes commence. Get ready to boogie!! Toy Board A new toy board has been installed in the arena and all the toys cleaned. They are now ready for when classes commence. Motor for hay shed A second-hand motor for use on a roller door was recently donated. The motor was in good condition. It was installed on the hay shed roller door and it is making it a lot easier for our volunteers to access the shed. We’re not getting any younger! Thank You Adam Lowe Earthmoving Our horses that are euthanised are buried on our land. Burying a horse is not a simple task. You need more than a shovel. We have been fortunate that Adam Lowe of Adam Lowe Earthmoving in Somersby, brings an excavator to do the job. Adam does not charge us for this. Thank you, Adam. If you need to undertake any earthmoving, consider Adam. Department of Justice Most of land we use for our centre is administered by the Department of Justice. We are very thankful to the Department for the use of this land. Staff at the Frank Baxter Juvenile Justice Centre are supportive of our operations. A recent example was fixing a squeak in our ute. Thank you, Juvenile Justice. Volunteers Day 2021 The next volunteer training and recruitment day will be on 27 February 2021. Put that date in your diaries.

24.01.2022 Raymond Terrace Regional Mounted Games: Our 4 riders, Sophie, Grace, Flynn and Cleo all competed and came back with a swag of 1st, 2nd and 3rd! Well done !

23.01.2022 Here are our fabulous Wednesday volunteers- thank you for all your help this year

23.01.2022 It is with sadness that we advise that there will be no riding classes at our Centre for the remainder of 2020 following consideration of the Riding for the Disabled Association’s (NSW) COVID Safe and Ready Plan which we are unable to fully implement due volunteer numbers, training needs, cleansing and sanitising requirements and the need to maintain physical distancing. Whilst we are disappointed for our riders, volunteers and horses, we are looking forward to when we can recommence. Over the next few months, we will be working on how to best implement the requirements so that we will be up and running for 2021. Our beloved horses will be well cared for over this period.

22.01.2022 We always appreciate the help of volunteers at our centre at Somersby and today we were fortunate to have Jeanette who is a long time member of Daylesford RDA. Jeanette is visiting the Central Coast but her love for horses bought her to Somersby today to help out and we really appreciated it

22.01.2022 Our wonderful Tuesday volunteers- thank you for your help throughout this yearxx

19.01.2022 A big welcome to our new fella. Bart is a pinto 13hh and 23 years old. Sadly he lost an eye through a tumour 6 years ago but he copes very well with one eye. Bart has a very quiet and lovely nature. He loves his food and bosses Jerry around. He came from the Jilliby area. Bart, we are all looking forward to meeting you.

19.01.2022 Thank you for a wonderful response for volunteers-we now have an open day for volunteers on the 29th February at Somersby between 10 and 12. Different volunteer roles will be explained. Existing volunteers should attend this day- Thank you

16.01.2022 Our little Friday rider Willow, has successfully been operated on in St. Louis Children’s Hospital, by the brilliant surgeon, Dr. Park. After a few days recovering from the operation, she took her very first steps, with her walker and therapist helping last Wednesday. The improvement was enormous! Everyone is thrilled to bits. She has a few more weeks there, for intensive therapy before she returns to Australia.

A combination of Thursday/ Friday Christmas shenanigans. Some scallywags getting in on the act Awards Day which was a bit down on numbers because of the smoke. Then Santa turned up in a fire engine much to the delight of the kids (and adults). A great day as always! The fireman even let the kids have a go at spraying the hose! 15.01.2022 On Friday we had a presentation of funds raised for Willow Thompson. Very pleased to have raised $2,005.00! This was from Kincumber Public School, who held a whole school ‘Blue’ Mufti day and raised $320.00! An astonishing effort! Our awesome Peter Mason, Thurs./Fri. Man, passed the hat at Kincumber Hotel and who matched that. Central Coast Taxis, our Blue Mufti week, and a Thursday & Friday 50/50 raffle that we ran for a few weeks. Willow’s family were very happy! So many me...mbers of the Central Coast community have dug deep and had lots of other fundraisers to help this little girl get to the U.S. next month for her all important surgery. She is still going to need funds when she returns as she will start intensive physio therapy. You can find her story here...... http://www.willowscpjourney.com.au/ and read about her wonderful family and their effort to get her walking and out of pain. Thank you one all who helped! See more

10.01.2022 Wesley having a nap yesterday. Stay safe everyone today. RDA is closed today.

10.01.2022 Westpac helicopter had to make an emergency landing in Paddock #9, to rescue and free a man who become stuck in some machinery across the road at Borg! They flew in over the horse stalls, just clearing the tops of the trees! It is a twin turbo, jet helicopter (according to someone who knows his choppers) and it was SO LOUD! Wesley wanted to leap out of his stall, Duke and Chevy beside themselves! The paramedics were gone for over an hour and then a thunderstorm was approaching, so played it safe it canceled the day. Just got the boys back in the paddocks before chopper started up again and rain moved in! Whew!

09.01.2022 Since closure of our centre on 16 March 2020 a small group of volunteers has been ensuring our horses and facilities are cared for. Due to Coronavirus the number of volunteers attending the centre is being kept to a minimum. Our management committee has been meeting to maintain our centre. Meetings have been kept to a minimum with emailing being used in between meetings. Due to the significant reduction in income we are closely monitoring our expenditure. We have received some small grants which are greatly appreciated. Overall, we are in good financial shape.

09.01.2022 But without these boys (some of them now retired) none of these classes would happen - thank you

09.01.2022 Our wonderful RDA horses are being lovingly well cared for whilst we are unable to operate but it does cost.
