25.01.2022 R I G R E F O R M What’s your favourite type of Reformer class? What’s your favourite block?? I love a class that flows and doesn’t have too many spring changes, and it’s got to have spinal articulation (love those feet in straps )

21.01.2022 C O F F E E What’s a Monday without Coffee?? Not sure it’s even possible Luckily we have @margaretriverroasting and @synessofactory to get us through the day. Gotta love the fresh vibe of this little spot in the studio!

18.01.2022 L A T E R A L Gotta love that side work! It’s imperative to build the stabilising muscles, improve balance as well as strengthening the lateral flexors of the spine. IAO (internal abdominal obliques) and EAO (external abdominal obliques) support the spine and low back and aid in side bending and rotation... so they are incredibly important!... So, don’t forget to program some lateral work in your sessions and don’t cringe when your instructor says pop on the Short Box for some Side Overs! Even better, add some strap hip work to the equation @basisystems @basipilatesaus

17.01.2022 V I B E We are ready for you on this glorious morning. We love seeing our clients bright and early and ready to knuckle down, focus and burn off the past week. Precision, dedication, concentration and control all happen in this space which is made even better by @basisystems

12.01.2022 B O X Who else loves the Long Box on the reformer?? It just opens up a huge amount of repertoire variations & modifications. Pop it on short or long and your options are endless. I love programming full classes with the box on to keep flow and pace in a session. Keep an eye out this weekend for a little (but ) LB Reformer sequence on IGTV that you can integrate into your more advanced classes.

11.01.2022 R I G F A C T S Breathing is super important in Pilates (and life ), and a lot of emphasis is placed on the breath during movement, but we often forget about the position of the tongue. Better breathing habits rely on correct tongue placement. What your tongue is doing in your mouth can dramatically affect how well the diaphragm is working and your ability to move oxygen in and out of the body.... In a resting and relaxed phase (definitely not at Pilates ), the tongue should be soft and rest on the roof of the mouth, slightly back from the top teeth. During Pilates, our goal is to transfer as much oxygen as possible into the lungs. So we need to drop it to the floor of the mouth on the exhale to cue the diaphragm to release, lift and push the air out in a forced exhale. Next time you’re in class, pay attention and see where your tongue is at. Maybe it’s having a holiday, maybe it’s working too hard or maybe it’s doing the job well (give it a pay rise!). #rigfacts See more

11.01.2022 B I R T H D A Y Happiest of birthdays to this legend!! She’s makes us smile, laugh and burn on a daily basis. She’s an absolute joy to be around and Rig Pilates would not be the same without her. Have a great day @marcela.montezano Your passion and knowledge for Pilates is incredible and your smile is infectious. We love you!

10.01.2022 C E I L I N G Is it just me, or does anyone else get annoyed if the reformer is not lined up with the rafters/ceiling beams? Maybe just a slight bit of OCD

09.01.2022 S I D E O V E R S The key to Side Overs is the setup. As our mentor @raelisacowitz always says, the success of an exercise relies % on the setup. Get it right from the get-go to really nail this one. Ensuring a long straight line from foot to head is primarily established is they key. The flexion should come from the torso, and the neck and head are just a continuation of the thoracic spine, therefore should always follow the curve. I often see clients ...lifting from their foot or head first, but it should be thought of as a co-contraction of the abdominals and back extensors and then a lift from the trunk flexors - obliques. On this note, I also see clients (and instructors) trying to lift too high which tends to aggravate the facet joints and forces the back extensors to over work, thus resulting in the focus and goal of the exercise disappearing out the window. Focusing on working between two sheets of imaginary glass, in a range that’s achievable without recruiting unwanted patterns will ensure you’ll get the most out of this rewarding and valuable exercise See more

08.01.2022 S T R E T C H The Reformer is a wonderful piece of apparatus to assist in stretching. It provides resistance to both actively and passive stretch certain muscle groups depending on the position. Some days it’s just great to spend a whole session stretching on it right!??

04.01.2022 S P A C E Love our little space. Especially this time of year when the sun is up early and fills the studio with light! No better way to start the day!
