25.01.2022 Beggars can't be choosers: Panel beater I am not, but FR Q Panel will be refitted after Timbo gave Rhonda the Honda a bit of a bash. Hmmm now for some white paint. It's worse than it looks here...

25.01.2022 Someone asked me at the last race meeting "how do you make these cars so quick" The answer is simple: Continuous Improvement programs. Today, we removed 8.6Kg of unwanted power steering. It's a rather nice after-market unit if anyone wants it.

25.01.2022 A little loose at turn 1. Race 2 from today. Improved Production Racing Association of WA

23.01.2022 Don't thing Ben will be using that tyre again!!! Big flat-spot presumably when trying to avoid a Commodore at turn in to T6

23.01.2022 We are ecstatic to introduce Rhonda our new Integra Type R, and our sponsors for 2020. Were ecstatic to have Infiniti Designer Pools join us again, they build the best and most amazing pools! TriboDyn Lubricants (the best oils ever! By far!!) distributed by CIC ... 22.01.2022 Q: What do you do when time runs out, and you can no longer throw some money at the problem? A: You don't race. Which is a shame as Ben would have well positioned for the prestigious Tander Trophy, running at lap record pace two weeks ago before wheel fell of (massive gearbox failure).

20.01.2022 What did you do over Easter Dad? Well son, I had another go at creating molds for your brake cooling ducts. My last effort was a total failure to cope with the complex 3D shapes to "ram" cool air into that duct. Rules do not allow us to cut holes in bodywork.

19.01.2022 Broke the lap record in Qaulifying, only for the front right wheel studs to snap the next lap How much bad luck can we have

17.01.2022 Rhonda's new carbon Front Splitter finished and mounted.

17.01.2022 First test for the new trailer, taking Rhonda the Honda to Pace Motorsport.

17.01.2022 Carbon front splitter is slowly getting there.

15.01.2022 Big day today. Car is ready for the kindly lent gearbox to go back in. Were still not sure what part failed on the old box though. Only problem is Im on holiday as of tomorrow morning....

14.01.2022 Update from Rhonda the Honda. It may not have been a gearbox failure at end of R2, when Ben heard a "bang" followed by "bad noises". We were all geared up to remove gearbox on Saturday when we found this. Lower upright had been in serious contact with brake rotor. Wheel bearing OK, Axle nut OK. We were a bit baffled. Subsequent advice suggests broken drive shaft in bearing area or broken flange. Ho Hum, Ben's bad luck continues.

13.01.2022 Fantastic weekend racing Father and Son. Both got 1st place in their class. Rhonda was amazing with a fastest lap of 63.3 much more to from her when we do some setup work and finished 4th outright, not bad for a little naturally aspirated 2litre!! ... 13.01.2022 We've just announced the details of Phase 3 of our roadmap for the easing of restrictions, with significant changes coming into effect on Saturday 6 June. As pa...rt of our carefully planned roadmap, Western Australia is now ready to take the next step. This next step will be significant, and it will be challenging. Before I detail the changes, I will say this - WAs success allows us to move ahead and take significant steps, BUT we all must continue to act responsibly, that means good physical distancing where possible and good personal hygiene. Because if we have an uncontrolled outbreak, I dont want to have to place restrictions back on. We cannot afford to undo all our good work. Phase 3 will be introduced from next Saturday, thanks to the success in limiting community transmission in WA during Phase 2, and on the advice of our Chief Health Officer and State Emergency Coordinator. As part of Phase 3, the follow changes will occur: - Non-work indoor and outdoor gatherings of up to 100 people will be allowed, a five-fold increase from the current 20-person limit. - Up to 300 people will be allowed in some settings, including for indoor or outdoor venues with multiple, divided spaces, with up to 100 people in each space. - All food businesses and licensed premises can now operate with seated service only, and alcohol may now be served without a meal at licensed premises. - All beauty therapy and personal care services can reopen, including saunas and wellness centres. - Galleries, museums, theatres, auditoriums, cinemas and concert venues can reopen with the 100/300 rule followed. - Perth Zoo will open, as can wildlife parks, amusement parks, arcades and indoor play centres. - Playgrounds, skate parks and outdoor gym equipment can reopen. - Gyms, health clubs, indoor sports centres will be able to offer the normal range of activities, including use of all gym equipment. However, Gyms will need to be staffed at all times and undertake regular cleaning. - Full contact sport and training will now be permitted in Western Australia. This will mean from next weekend, people of all ages will be able to start competitive contact sports. - Parents and guardians will be able to enter school grounds to drop off or pick up their children as part of Phase 3. - TABs are permitted to reopen. The Chief Health Officer will separately work with Crown Casino on how the gaming floor could reopen in the future. These are all major steps forward for Western Australia. Phase 3 will be a big leap but its one we can make under the watchful eye of our expert health advisors. The four square metre rule was introduced in line with health advice. I know its a rule that is hurting businesses. Ive been out for dinner in Rockingham and seen tables and chairs stacked up, because the four square metre rule is limiting the number of people that can be in some venues. As was always going to be the case in Phase 2, the four square metre rule prevented a large number of businesses from opening. As we now increase the limit on gatherings to 100, I wanted to make sure we closely assess this rule. Our Chief Health Officer has now advised, that due to WAs hard border with the east remaining in place, Western Australia is now in a position to move ahead of the national advice. As part of Phase 3, Western Australia will be the first State in the nation to remove the rule and instead implement a two square metre per person capacity rule for venues. This will replace the four square metre rule, which is the current national position. This is an important and substantial move forward our State, and I hope it means many more businesses will be able to open and employ more Western Australians. I know its still not perfect, but we are now able to move ahead of the rest of the nation. In addition, as part of Phase 3, Rottnest Island will reopen to the WA general public. Rottnest has served us well as our own quarantine island during this crisis. We can only make these changes because of the hard work of everyone across our State. But in particular our hard border controls give us the flexibility to progress further along on roadmap. Once again, WA has led the way, and I hope our performance can continue to lay the path forward for the other States. Now is the time for Western Australians to wander our great State and support local businesses. Just like Phase 2, we will carefully monitor the introduction of Phase 3 and its impact in our community. Together, as part of a rigorous consultation process involving the Chief Health Officer and Police Commissioner, we will closely assess Phase 3. We will then work towards further restrictions being eased as part of Phase 4 in coming weeks. This will predominantly be focused on even larger gatherings, the new two square metre rule and some of the other existing restrictions. A time for Phase 4 introduction will be determined in the future, but it will follow the approach we have taken between earlier phases.

12.01.2022 Ben scored 2 Class wins and a DNF. In Race 2 he heard the now feared "funny noise" associated with going wide on 2 corners. Needless to say he stopped, thinking something wrong with suspension. Long story short - We now think this flat spot may have been the culprit. Tim got 3 straight Class wins. Tim was lucky not to hit Brad (a fellow U1600 competitor) when he couldn't stop on fluid being dropped ahead of him by Brad. Brad soon spun out on his own fluid though, making life easy for Tim.

11.01.2022 Helping a friend from Formula Vee repair accident damage to an engine cover.

11.01.2022 Oh dear, took Ben's noisy gearbox out last night with Tony Flood. The 5th gearset was cactus. Tony also ID'd some design related safety issues. We're gonna park the car up for a month to fix the issues. The initial gearset failure appears to be fatigue, then escalating collateral damage.

11.01.2022 Clutch, gearbox, driveshafts and uprights all re-installed. Car is almost ready to go racing, wheels, air box and repairing the splitter. Then she is ready to have a crack at the lap record

10.01.2022 Ain't that the truth?

07.01.2022 It's good to see Rhonda's front splitter project is generating informed debate. Here's the next one!!! Uncontrolled high speed air entering engine compartment might (sort of) help cool brakes, but worse, it generates high pressure under the bonnet. That = LIFT = BAD. Block them and add brake duct.

07.01.2022 Fixing last weekend's damage: New bearing press gets it's debut. WASCC is a great club with members chipping in to help. Thanks to Stewart Burns (Ribuck Engineering) for making up a tool-set. Thanks also to Bruce Pollack for machining damaged parts.

06.01.2022 Hi all, seeking some help. Seeing if anyone has an input shaft for a B series engine we could please borrow. We have a double plate clutch, we need to reinstall and dont have the alignment tool.... cheers guys

06.01.2022 Brake temperatures. Brake rotors are designed to vent air from their center outwards, so the closer to the center of the rotor you can get the airduct outlet, the better. The vanes between to twin rotors then move the cool air outwards cooling the unit from the "inside". We also learned of the risk of super-cooling contact patches (pads & rotor surfaces) with intense blasts of cool air. Localised temperature variation can cause more cracking than it cures.

06.01.2022 Ben's Gearbox in the Tribodyn Honda. We know tribodyn lubricants are very much top of the wozza according to independent research at University Helsinki. We had tested increased (reduced friction) horsepower ourselves, but had never personally confirmed anecdotal evidence of extraordinary durability in adversity. Now we have..... When we took apart the "spare" box to help re-build a box that came to us from previous owner with design related damage, would found a house of... assembly horrors. 1. Wrong bolts used (bolt heads hitting 1st gear). 2. A bolt that was no longer a bolt. See pix. When it came time to dissemble for parts - it just fell apart. Yet, it had just ran a lap record pace in practice before from wheel fell off!! That this gearbox was able to function at all is a miracle, and we think the extreme protection offered by TRIBODYN may be illustrated. We are working with component manufacturer in UK to improve some design flaws exposed when Tony Flood was examining the boxes.

05.01.2022 Well, that plan didn't go too well. We had two gearboxes came with the car. Short gearbox had a broken crown-wheel. We and UK supplier re-designed in January. COVID shutdown. Supplier forgot design change - Sent us another part ready to fail. Long gearbox the seized due to a design fault on the layshaft retaining bolt. We tried to build a box out of new bits + old parts - Tony Flood did a lovely job. We put it all back in, only to learn: The new layshaft had the same... incorrect RH thread design as two others that failed. It should have been LH thread. Ho Hum take it all out again. Now firkin UK goes into shutdown AGAIN!!! Check pic for the faulty layshaft bolts....

05.01.2022 With no racing allowed under COVID VIRUS we're just doing behind the scenes stuff. Two "low-rider" hydraulic trailers all ready for May Collie Motorplex that will not happen. Good news was when I insured them, I went from 7 to 9 vehicles (jumped from 10% to 20% discount) and total price dropped!!!

04.01.2022 Continuous Improvement program continues on Rhonda the Honda. Next is a Front Splitter aerodynamic component. A cardboard design mockup is now complete prior to carbon fibre manufacture next weekend. We anticipate this will improve front downforce and initial "turn in". Rules say splitter must not exceed area of bodywork in plan, or it would be bigger!!

03.01.2022 TRIBODYN: This is quite interesting. It is 1st of 4 improvement projects on Ben's new Integra. I became aware of Tribodyn Lubricants 2 years ago. Research located a Mechanical Engineering thesis at University of Helsinki comparing about 20 premium to exotic "oils". Tribodyn was simply stunning through a range of industry standard tests. I put it in my Race Corolla in latter part of 2018 and ran right though 2019 without an oil change. Oil test showed it would likely be ...good for another year of racing. We changed it anyway for 2020. Now, we had the chance to do a "head to head" test today in Ben's new Integra. The "base case" oil was Penrite 10 Tenths Racing 20W-60 that was used by previous owners and had done 2 Race Meetings vs Tribodyn 20W-50. Long story short, Penrite was 245.6 HP vs 251.1 HP Tribodyn at the wheels. Diddly squat you might think - just 2% gain? But, that is not why we did it. That 2% equates to reduced internal friction - that is good mechanically. Oh another story, Pace Motorsports noted that every Tribodyn test run (of 5) got better. This matches anecdotal evidence that it takes time for Tribodyn to work it's magic. There may well be more to come, but we will not know. Dyno time is expensive.

03.01.2022 The Continuous Improvement Program continues to the new Tribodyn Honda. Oil pressure issue used to occur in NSW with previous owners in Long LH turns. It was worse in WA at Long Uphill LH Turn 4. Pressure dropped as seen in Photo 1. Hopefully fixed by Photo 2. Thanks to Brett at: https://www.facebook.com/PACEmotorsport.motorcycles/

03.01.2022 Big Sunday tomorrow reassembling front end of Ben's repaired car. But 1st we will need Sunday lunch. Clam Chowder WA Style (with prawns).

03.01.2022 Nice new brake rotor hats for Rhonda the Honda by John at Turnaround Machining

02.01.2022 Whoo hoo. 1st of two hydraulic lowering car trailers completed for Ben & Timbo. This may seem extravagant, but we will sometimes need to move both cars to the same place at the same time. Those wheels are on hydraulic trailing arms so the whole thing lays flat to drive low ride-height cars on :)

02.01.2022 Share some love for Rhonda guys. Who doesnt secretly love an underdog especially a Type R

01.01.2022 Work continues on the repair of a friend's FVee Engine Cover. After Carbon Fibre internal repairs done previously, now it's time for bogging with Resin / Q Cell and Cotton Floc.
