22.01.2022 Today is the beginning of NAIDOC Week 2020! It's a significant time to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and achievements. It's also an opportunity for everyone in Australia to reflect on the social and emotional wellbeing of Indigenous Australians. NAIDOC week is usually celebrated in July, this year the organising committee made the unprecedented decision to move the official NAIDOC week celebrations to November, to protect elders and those... in the community with chronic health issues, from the impacts of COVID. This year’s theme - Always Was, Always Will Be - recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. 19.01.2022 Words matter. If you’re experiencing a strong emotion, take a moment to consider what to call it. But don’t stop there: once you’ve identified it, try to come ...up with two more words that describe how you are feeling. You might be surprised at the breadth of your emotionsor that you’ve unearthed a deeper emotion buried beneath the more obvious one.

19.01.2022 Seems timely to share this one again. Stay safe, stay connected, and look for gratitude's every day.

13.01.2022 TRANS AWARENESS WEEK November 13th - 20th Trans Awareness Week is about bringing attention to issues of prejudice, discrimination and violence that affect tran...s and gender diverse people. It is also about celebrating the trans community Transgender describes people whose gender identity is different than the identity they were assigned at birth. Non-binary describes people who don’t identify as male or female. These people live as both, either, or no gender. Gender diverse is an umbrella term that encompasses a range of different gender identities. WHAT YOU CAN DO TO SUPPORT DIVERSITY: Call out hurtful, inappropriate or disrespectful language or remarks. Respect pronouns. And if you’re not sure which pronoun someone uses, just ask! Be patient with those questioning their gender identity. Listen with an open mind and heart to the experiences of gender diverse people they’re the experts on their own lives, and one of the most important parts of being an ally is to listen and give others the space to speak. Don’t assume you can tell if someone is transgender. Transgender, non-binary and gender diverse people don’t all look a certain way. Use gender neutral language. Our everyday words and phrases are often gendered unnecessarily. Instead of brother/sister use sibling and instead of boyfriend/girlfriend use partner. Question and unlearn the gender expectations you may have grown up with. You may have been taught to think of binary gender as natural, when in fact, there are lots of different gender identities and ways that people can express them. https://www.minus18.org.au/articles/how-to-be-a-trans-ally If you or someone you know is experiencing significant distress the below organisations are here to help: QLife Australia 1800 184 527 Beyond Blue 1300 224 636 headspace 1800 650 890 Lifeline 13 11 14

10.01.2022 HEARTFELT THANK YOU The doctors and staff at Standish Street Surgery would like to THANK the Myrtleford community for their patience during some very difficult,... unprecedented and challenging times. It is clear to say that it has been a bumpy road with doctor shortages, a pandemic and an increase in patient numbers to the surgery. Thank you for being patient as we work very hard to accommodate the whole community Thank you for being polite to our team as being aggressive or grumpy does not help or achieve anything positive. Thank you for making your appointment at least 4 weeks in advance. You are as important as ever to us and we are committed to your health and wellbeing. There are ways that you can help too! 1. When you book an appointment please tell staff, as best you can, about the urgency of your appointment so we can do our best to look after your needs but also the needs of others who may also need urgent medical attention. 2. If you cannot attend an appointment, please call in advance to cancel your appointment. This means we can give the appointment to someone else who really needs it. Test results can come back normal and require no follow up with you. Some test results may indicate the need for an appointment without delay. Other test results may not be normal but need to be discussed with your doctor sometime in the near future. If you have been referred for any tests, we advise that you make an appointment in 3 to 4 weeks to discuss the results with your doctor. If you need an earlier appointment than what has been scheduled we will notify you. If you have a medical emergency you should dial 000 (triple zero). There are no changes to our regular appointment booking system with your usual doctor. We advise that you book any regular visits at least 2 to 4 weeks in advance. If you need an urgent, same day appointment please: Contact the surgery by phone or present to the surgery. Your condition will be checked by our specially trained Nurse who will then be able to determine how quickly you need to be seen by a doctor, you may then be consulted by the Duty Doctor. The reason we do it this way is to make sure that patients who are needing the most urgent medical attention are seen sooner by the doctor. This means that there may be a wait in seeing the doctor at times. We will still be able to provide urgent scripts, medical certificates and referrals but you must be aware that you may wait longer if there are other unwell patients. We are also engaging locum GP’s to help fill the shortage. We are all in this together, so please keep up the great work to ensure that your wellbeing and the wellbeing of those in our great community is the best it can be! If you have any questions please phone 03 5751 9900. We are always happy to answer any questions.

07.01.2022 REMINDER: As of Monday 3rd August anyone attending face to face appointments will be required to wear a face mask. Alternatively, your appointment can be conducted by telehealth video conferencing. ... Call us on 03 5729 0500 if you would like to chat more about your options.

06.01.2022 Sometimes you have to let go of the picture of what you thought life would be like and learn to find joy in the story you're living.

03.01.2022 To recognise this important day - Liv Cartledge will be performing LIVE on the B2b Facebook page Tonight from 6PM R U OK?Day is Thursday 10 September 2020. It’s our national day of action when we remind Australians that every day is the day to ask, Are you OK? if someone in your world is struggling with life’s ups and downs. The message for R U OK?Day 2020 is:... 'THERE'S MORE TO SAY AFTER R U OK?' 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and circumstances have made it even more important for us all to stay connected and, for those who are able, be willing to support those around us. In the lead-up to R U OK?Day we’ll help Australians know what to say when someone says they’re not OK and guide them through how they can continue a conversation that could change a life. You don’t have to be an expert to keep the conversation going when someone says they’re not OK. By knowing what to say you can help someone feel supported and access appropriate help long before they’re in crisis, which can make a really positive difference to their life. Learn what to say after R U OK? and download FREE resources for tips and ideas to help you share the message in your community. visit the website https://www.ruok.org.au/
