24.01.2022 Bowel cancer awareness - June. Bowel cancer Affects both men and women, and Australians have one of the highest incidences of bowel cancer in the world at approximately 1 in 13 Australians by the age of 85. Not only is it common, but bowel cancer is Australia's second most deadly form of cancer. The risks for bowel cancer increase significantly from age 50,... In the early stages, bowel cancer shows limited signs or symptoms, which is why patients with a family history should be screened regularly as recommended by your GP. As the cancer progresses, signs to look out for are blood in your stool, persistant changes in bowel habbit, change in stool shape, rectal pain, abdominal pain, abdominal swelling and/or anaemia. If detected early, bowel cancer can be successfully treated.
