25.01.2022 On World Refugee Day we remember with deep compassion the 80 million forcibly displaced people and 26 million refugees across our world. We honour their plight ...and acknowledge the strength, courage, and contributions of those who have had no option but to seek safety from conflict and persecution. We remember the biblical witness to the God who is on the side of the vulnerable and exiled, and the call to welcome the stranger as we seek to always become a more welcoming and compassionate nation. 25.01.2022 A letter to the Ringwood UC congregation from Rev Lucas Taylor. Greeting friends, In the last weeks and days the Coronavirus pandemic has caused increasing uncertainty and anxiety in our community. Yesterday the Australian Federal government flagged upcoming limits on large social gatherings. It is reasonable to project that such measures may increase in the future and given that gathering together in worship is part of the vital life of our faith and witness I write to you n...Continue reading
25.01.2022 The people of Ringwood Unitng Church live and meet together on Wurundjeri land. On this anniversary of invasion, dispossession and grief we acknowledge the pain and trauma experienced by First People and we recommit ourselves to the ongoing work of reconciliation. We will listen first and work to change our hearts towards justice and compassion. The best of Australia that we celebrate is our compassion.

23.01.2022 With our communal sacred space closed for the time being, many people are trying to create something at home. So we thought we would ask people with some insight and experience in this, how they did it. Today Kathy Clarkson shares her wisdom.
22.01.2022 Can you sew? While it is now mandatory for metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire residents to wear a face mask when outside their home, many marginalised a...nd vulnerable people in our community are having trouble accessing them. Uniting Vic.Tas and Uniting AgeWell are calling for volunteers to sew reusable, fabric face masks to be distributed to those most in need. 21.01.2022 This morning we gathered as a church family for the last time face to face for the foreseeable future. It was beautiful and important. But it was extremely difficult not to be able to throw our arms around each other in solidarity and support. I saw deep sadness and deep appreciation of just what this family means to each other. Be gentle with each other and yourselves. We will continue to be the church, just in different ways.... Stay in touch. Lucas T. See more

20.01.2022 Today is National Sorry Day - a day to acknowledge and recognise members of the Stolen Generations. UCA President Dr Deidre Palmer says, "As the Uniting Church,... we are truly sorry for the ways we have contributed to the trauma and loss experienced by the First Peoples of this land, and to the wounding and scarring of our life together. "The evidence of our sorry needs to be seen in our actions in our truth telling, in our advocacy for justice for First Peoples, in our deepening of relationships between First and Second Peoples and our shaping of new communities of mutuality, equity, dignity, respect and healing." Read the full reflection: https://uniting.church/national-sorry-day/ One thing you can do today to mark Sorry Day is to record your own 30-second video answering the questions: What does Sorry Day mean to you? 19.01.2022 Many Christians were appalled by US President Donald Trump brandishing a Bible in front of a church after protesters and clergy were forced away by police to st...age the shot. However, Robyn Whitaker reminds us that: "Co-opting Christianity in the service of power is almost as old as Christianity itself." See more

13.01.2022 We welcome the exciting news that the UN treaty banning nuclear weapons has now reached the 50 ratifications it needs to enter into force. In 90 days it will be... binding international law. The Uniting Church has long called for an end to nuclear weapons. UCA President Dr Deidre Palmer welcomed the announcement and called on the Australian Government to sign and ratify the treaty without delay. Congratulations to every nation that has joined the #nuclearban treaty. Once in force, this will put Australia out-of-step with international law. It is time Australia signed onto the treaty without delay.

11.01.2022 Today begins #16Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence. UCA President Dr Deidre Palmer offers this message. We invite you to join us each day in prayer ...for a world where all women and girls are free from violence. Dr Palmer offers this prayer for Day 1. Gracious and compassionate God, Be with all those who are living in situations of violence and abuse. Be with those whose homes are not safe places, who live in fear and pain. May they find spaces of shelter and support, that offer healing, safety, and strength. We give you thanks for all those agencies, workers, congregations, friends and family, who walk alongside women and children who experience violence. Sustain them in your hope and guide them with your wisdom. Give us strength and courage as your Church to create relationships and communities of mutuality, respect and equality, where children and women can flourish, and all of us can grow into our fullest humanity. In the name of Christ, our Liberator Amen.

02.01.2022 At Ringwood Uniting Church we are working at developing a way to encourage people to engage in dialogue together, over the phone or over the kitchen table. During this time of lockdown we will be offering video, such as the one in the link below, liturgy in written words to inspire and share and input and reflections from throughout our community. If you are interested in sharing a prayer/reading/reflection of some kind, please email me, try to keep the video to around 5 minutes. The liturgy format is simple, prayer to gather thoughts and create a sacred moment, reading to ground us in our history of story, and reflection to unpack something of the reading that speaks to this moment and tomorrow.

We pray for supportive communities to journey with them in their struggles, healing and recovery. We give thanks for all our Defence Force chaplains. We thank you for their response to your call to offer spiritual leadership and pastoral care to Defence Force personnel and their families. We pray for all those who are negotiating for peace in situations of war and conflict throughout our world. Bless them with wisdom, strength and resolve to find ways we can live together in harmony and respect for one another. We pray that we might be bearers of your peace. Through Christ, who is our Peace, we pray. Amen. - Dr Deidre Palmer, Uniting Church President
