12.01.2022 As ambassador of this year's Australian Organic Awareness Month (AOAM), Aussie actor Lincoln Lewis is on a journey of discovery to learn more about certified or...ganic produce and products. Lincoln will visit certified organic operations and meet the names behind the brands. Over a series of short films, Lincoln will help us understand what it means to be certified organic and how certified organic products differ from non-certified products. 11.01.2022 Support the dairy industry and buy branded milk. Stay with us on this, farmers and processors need your help! 1. $1/L for milk is anti-competitive. The cost of ...producing, processing and distributing milk, and paying a levy to the government, far exceeds $1/L. The purpose of the 2017 amendment to section 46 of Australias Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (CCA) was to prevent the misuse of market power. It was widely said at the time, that this change would be beneficial for farmers and small businesses. 2. The effects test of the misuse of market power, is to assess whether a practice significantly lessens competition. This test is not about the before and after, but whether the impact of a practice will reduce competition into the future. Farmers exiting the dairy industry in droves, is certainly going to have a widespread impact in the years to come. 3. $1/L of milk is decimating the dairy industry. Prior to deregulation in 2000, there were 1545 dairy farmers in QLD and in 2017, there were approx. 405. The Federal Government should reintroduce regulation of the dairy industry so that farmers and processors receive a fair price. Processors in Australia are legally required to pay a levy to the Federal Govt of $0.10/kg to assist with the continued fallout of deregulation. 4. Processors and suppliers of dairy products are not able to dictate prices to retailers. This is prohibited in the CCA. Suppliers are allowed to recommend prices but we cannot mandate them. It is up to the market to determine prices. Processors cannot work together to increase the price for milk, as that is cartel behaviour and no price signalling is allowed. 5. The major supermarkets have kept milk at $1/L since Australia Day 2011, for eight long years. If one of the objectives of the 2017 amendment was to protect small businesses and farmers from the misuse of market power, then how is this pricing allowed? 05.01.2022 The worst of COVID-19 seems still yet to impact our communities. While the best method of prevention is reducing social interaction, its also important to keep your immune system boosted with fresh clean organic produce! We want to let you know that we're operating as normal and still accepting new customers. Our suppliers are bulking up their stock levels to account for the extra demand, so we're confident in foreseeing a good availability of products at this stage. Although... we may start seeing shortages on some lines. Our couriers also hope to operate as normal as the nature of their job means they are mostly working fairly isolated. We will be in constant contact with our suppliers and couriers, adapting where necessary if things escalate so we can continue to bring you fresh produce. As a food handling business, we already run with a high standard of hygiene by wearing gloves and washing hands often. Our packers are now also wearing face masks and washing hands hourly to ensure less risk of contamination. As things progress, we will continue to keep you updated with any changes. And if things get crazy, remember to share the loo paper around!
