25.01.2022 Gorgeous Oak was in for an ultrasound with Dr Andrew after presenting unwell and was diagnosed with mesenteric lymphadenopathy. Oak was sent home with medication and has been rechecked today and is doing wonderful! Back to his mischievous cheeky self! Well done Oak!

25.01.2022 Medical case of the month. Meet lil Kookie! Kookie is a 12 week old British Shorthair that loves everbody. Mr Kookie unfortunately ingested a lily from a bin. Lillies are extremely toxic for cats! Luckily Kookie's owners saw Kookie with the lillies and saught after veterinary attention straight away. Kookie had 4 days of supportive care being monitored closely whilst being on intravenous fluids and regular blood testing and are pleased to say Kookie made a wonderful recovery ...and is now home enjoying his first Christmas. Kookie was the cutest patient and had everyone wrapped around his little paw. Lily ingestion in cats can cause complete kidney failure within days or death and is always something to take very seriously. Unfortunately lily toxicity isn't always common knowledge so hoping this post will create some awareness to our fellow cat lovers! See more

23.01.2022 Meet Riddick! We first met this beautiful boy 2 years ago. Riddick is a very lucky rescue dog who found himself an amazing owner who totally understands his anxiety needs. Originally Riddick refused to visit us and thought we were all scarey and with much love, support and understanding from his owners and fear free vet visits he now happily walks into our building and happily accepts a bucket load of treats during his veterinary visits. It is so rewarding to see Riddick trust us enough now to accept treats and his happy face is why we love what we do. Well done Riddick! You are a very special boy! #fearfree #slowtreater #riddick #fearfreevets.

22.01.2022 This photo was randomly taken walking past Nurse Tamara comforting her patient " Oscar" before his desexing operation. The nurses at Ripley Vets are allocated individual patients each day to ensure the patient feels loved and cared for all day. The extra cuddles and paw holding not only makes a difference for the patient's we have but also give our nurses a sense of purpose knowing they've providing support and love to our furpateints. #loveourjob #ripleyvets #petconnection #fearfree #petlovers #petsofinstagram

22.01.2022 4 months ago when we first met Lily she came in stiff and sore and not able to walk around easily. We started Lily on the Royal Canin Satiety diet and wow what a difference! Lily now has a waistline and moves around with much more sass! She has lost a huge 7 kilos and the owners have done an amazing job at getting her back on track! Well done Lily! Loosing weight in our senior years is never easy but at nearly 14 years of age you achieved it with grace! #royalcanin

13.01.2022 We have been treating heat stroke cases this week due to the jump in hot weather. Ways to avoid this are: 1) Keeping your pets inside in air conditioning. Especially for all our little frenchie's, bulldogs and pug friends! Breeds with compromised airways are especially prone to heat stroke. 2) Making sure they always have access to water and shade. 3) Kiddies clam shells with water are fun to allow your dog to cool off with a quick dip! Freezing buckets of ice to put in th...e clam shell can be fun too. Although wont last long, every bit helps. 4) Not walking them in the heat of the day. Although its getting warm quite early. Best times would be before 8am and after 5pm. If your pet is looking like its suffering with heat stroke wrap them in a wet towel and bring into the hospital straight away. Show us a pic of how your pet prefers to cool off on these hot days? #ripleyvethospital #keepingcool #heatstrokekills #summeriscoming See more

12.01.2022 Ripley will be having fireworks on New Years Eve at 9pm which is such a fabulous treat for the locals but if you ask a dog that has noise phobia it's probably their least favourite thing! Please make sure if you dont have any medication for your dog on hand that you call for an appointment next week in preparation for the fireworks display. Tips to prepare your dog for the fireworks are: 1) Keep your pets inside so they can't escape. 2) draw the curtains and make the room dark. 3) Play calming music. If your dog has extreme noise phobia may be worth planning a night in and being by your dogs side to ensure they do not harm themselves.

09.01.2022 Owning a pet that has anxiety around seeing a vet can be an emotional event for any pet owner. Monty started coming to us for this very reason, never enjoyed going to a vet previously and over the 2 years that weve known him he has definately been making improvements! Luckily for him his owner noticed a small lump on his tail and booked him in for a consultation. The lump was diagnosed as a Soft Tissue Sarcoma and Monty needed to then have this nasty lump taken off as soo...n as possible. Difficult seeing as theres not much spare skin on a tail! Now post surgery Monty has regular visits with bandage changes and he has made massive improvement with his anxiety and his tail is healing beautifully. Must be all the treats during his visits! We are super proud of Montys wellness journey and we love seeing him visit in his cool outfits! Well done beautiful boy we are so proud of how far you have come See more

08.01.2022 "Timber" came in for her vet check today and she was perfect patient! We all had to stop and appreciate her good looks, think Timber has taken the odd photo previously, she definately knew how to pose! Such a loyal and intelligent breed! Anyone want to guess her breed?

08.01.2022 Quite often taking your pet to a vet hospital can be quite stressful for your pet and we understand this isn't always a fun option for you. If you feel your pet would prefer being in the comfort of their own home, we can arrange to visit you in the local area instead. Feel fee to give us a call on 3816 4717 to enquire.

08.01.2022 Is your dog insanely nervous during thunderstorms? Or do they try and escape, injure themselves or shake uncontrollably? They don't need to suffer through this. We do behavioural work and have a lot of success with these guys. Maybe some clients will comment the improvements they have seen? Don't let them suffer through storm season...and it's only going to get worse through summer.

08.01.2022 If anyone has any old baby socks no longer needed we would love some to help keep our surgical patients warm. Maintaining a good body temperature is really important for a smooth anaesthetic and faster recovery for our little ones. We currently use heated anaesthetic units (warm breathing air), heated surgical tables and warming blankets...but the socks add a tiny bit more comfort for our patients Thanks in advance wonderful people. Dr Andrew

04.01.2022 Weve had some crazy days at the hospital. Some days the vets dont get to talk to you as long as they want. Sometimes the nurses are rushed between phone calls. Sometimes our appointments run behind. Sometimes the emergencies dont seem to stop. But always we are thankful for your patience and understanding and for being able to help you and your pets. THANKYOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE WHILE WE ALL GET THROUGH THESE UNUSUAL TIMES. #covid19 #thankyou #BestClientsAndPets #ripleyvet

04.01.2022 Meet Peppa! Miss Peppa came in over the weekend for her first vet visit and she was so brave! Already knew what a camera was too No suprise there, such a bundle of cuteness!

04.01.2022 Pets have a natural ability to understand and respond to human expression and plays a vital role in relationship building and trust. Now with COVID-19 and the majority of shops requiring you to enter with a face mask it may make your pets feel anxious or scared particulary for all the nervous and shy ones. To help your pet feel safe gradually introduce a face mask in a familiar space such as at home first and help them get comfortable getting used to this unknown mask thing b...locking your communication pathway. Start by wearing the mask partly on your face and when you interact with your pet as they come familiar with the mask gradually cover up more of your face. If your pet continues to demonstrate symptoms of anxiety including: Shaking, licking of lips, pacing, hiding, remove the mask and try again the next day. Key is keeping these sessions short and sweet. No more than 5 minutes! 1-2 minutes is ideal. It is important to also make fun positive connections with face masks. For example show them the mask in your hand and reward with BBQ chicken at the same time then progress to partly wearing the mask and showering your pet with yummy treats while your still wearing the mask. Have them associate the mask with fun treats being given to them. You could even pop on your mask as you deliver them their food bowl! That would be one training session for the day. Easy right? When you need to leave the house with your pet to either come and visit us or just for a walk at the park wearing your mask don't forget to pack a handful of yummy treats to further encourage your dog to respond positively to others wearing a mask in public. Whilst there is no evidence that a pet needs a mask and doing so could cause significant distress and in some cases cause breathing dfficulties. As a precaution practice good hand hygiene and social distancing. #fearfreeFriday See more

02.01.2022 How cool does Chance look in his sun safe goggles! Dr Andrew and Dr Jess discuss the importance of sun safe goggles during consults for patients and Chance took the leap and tried them for himself.
