23.01.2022 Lana Cormie and Janine and Dave Brownlee met with local artist Garry Anderson today at the future site of the Ballarat and Region Workers Memorial. Lana and th...e Brownlee’s loved ones didn’t come home from work. They have worked tirelessly through their sadness and grief to see the historic Industrial manslaughter laws pass Parliament. Artist Garry Anderson will create a lasting memorial for Jack and Charlie and for every life lost at a workplace. It will be a place to reflect, and a place of hope for the future that every worker comes home. Ballarat Trades Hall have worked with Lana, Janine and Dave to create this lasting memorial. You can donate to memorial fund by contacting Ballarat Trades Hall by phone 03 53323666 or email [email protected]

22.01.2022 I've had a few messages asking me to explain some of the terms used to report the daily case numbers. Everyone's probably sick of hearing about 14-day averages but these are useful definitions as we move towards COVID Normal. Hope this helps.
21.01.2022 I am committed to securing manufacturing jobs in Ballarat, that is why I am so pleased that Alstom workers are on the job at Bombardier working on VLine VLocity... train maintenance. This job saving deal supported by the Victorian Government, Alstom, Bombadier and the Unions will retain highly skilled transport manufacturing jobs in our community. Workers from Alstom have been redeployed to Bombardier for up to two years while work continues on the X’Trapolis 2.0 design. Thanks and well done to the AMWU Victoria, ETU - Electrical Trades Union of Australia, Victorian Branch and RTBU Victoria
20.01.2022 We are going to give the practical help jobseekers need - tailored advice, wage subsidies and matching workers to a job. The Andrews Labor Government is putting... workers front and centre in our recovery, with an unprecedented investment in job creation and employment support across Victoria - particularly for women, young people and older people most impacted by this pandemic. The Victorian Budget 2020/21 invests a record $619.4 million to deliver a bigger, more hands on Jobs Victoria network connecting jobseekers to the job they need to get back to work. #vicbudget

11.01.2022 Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and the beginning of the United Nation’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based V...iolence, which runs from Wed 25 November until Thu 10 December or Human Rights Day. During this year’s 16 days of activism against gender-based violence, we are asking Victorians to talk about what respect and equality looks like at home, in relationships, in families, and to call out disrespect when they see it. The campaign aims to support Victorian communities to understand what respect means, what it looks like and how to put it into practice in everyday life. Gender inequality is one of the biggest drivers of violence against women and the research tells us that calling out disrespect towards women can prevent violence. The Respect Women: Call It Out (Respect Is) campaign asks Victorians to define what respect is to them, what it looks like in their lives and why respect means calling bad behaviour out. #RespectIs #CallItOut #16DaysCampaign Respect Victoria

06.01.2022 When we were elected to lead this state, we promised to put people first. And no matter how hard this year has been that's a promise we'll never break. Today'...s Budget is one like no other, in a year like none we've seen before. And at the heart of all its facts, stats and figures is a fundamental commitment to helping people, improving lives and making Victoria a fairer place. It doesn't matter what word you use cracks, pitfalls, inequality or disparity. This year has exposed them all. And if we want a future where every Victorian can achieve their potential and feel positive about what's to come: We have to face the challenges that've been shirked for far too long. Because 'too hard' has become too easy to say, and change simply can't wait till another day. We have to do more, we must do better. We need a state that's strong, and a future that's certain. A place where Victorians are supported, their work is valued, their livelihoods secure. And where people will always be put before the bottom line. This Budget is for families, it's for regional communities, for workers, schools, TAFEs, hospitals, businesses and so much more. It's an investment in fairness and in our state's future. But more than anything else: It puts people first.
06.01.2022 A great afternoon to join Maree Edwards MP in my old home town of Castlemaine for a really important announcement. We know there’s been a surge in demand for c...ritical services during the pandemic and that’s why we’re supporting many frontline services with additional employees. As part of our Working for Victoria Fund, an extra eight people are being employed at CHIRP Community Health in Castlemaine. These new employees will allow CHIRP to better support members of the community, including people with a disability or who are homeless. The boost will also help to provide counselling and case management to an increased number of people who need mental health and alcohol and other drug support. CHIRP’s new administrative assistant Elly says the opportunity is enabling her to learn and giving her experience within her local community. I now have stability for my family in a time where job security has been hit hard, she says. Our Working for Victoria initiative supports jobseekers, and helps employers find good workers quickly. 02.01.2022 2020 has been a difficult year for Victoria Police, tragically losing four members in April. Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation Day is a chance to say thank... you to those who protect and serve our community and remember those who have fallen. Join me in thanking everyone at Victoria Police and in remembering the 170 members who have lost their lives since Victoria Police was established in 1853.
02.01.2022 The 2020-21 Wildlife Rehabilitator Grants are now open with $200,000 available to help wildlife shelters and carers look after sick, injured and orphaned wildli...fe. 01.01.2022 It’s a job well done at Avoca Primary School, with the finishing touches now complete on the school’s upgrade project. Through this $300,000 investment, we hav...e delivered repairs and upgrades to classrooms, as well as major improvements to the school’s sporting facilities. The undercover sports area will provide students with a place to play in all weather conditions when they return to on-site learning in term 4.
